This was my first trip to a good beer establishment outside of Pittsburgh (my home) and Baltimore (where I went to school). I was more than pleased with the atmosphere. Every song played was something I liked (literally every song for a good three hours), but the best part was I didn't have to scream to talk. Big bar and lots of shit on the walls for a good appearance. I was surprised to see that there wasn't a big turnout for a Saturday night. While I enjoy not needing 10 minutes to move 10 feet, it was a bit disheartening that such a good bar would not have tons of business.
I had a good ongoing conversation with the bartender. Though he wasn't completely knowledgable about the brews, he went out of his way to figure out answers to any questions I had. He also have me a few 1-2 oz. samples on the house when I expressed interest in a brew.
The selection was awesome. It was all Goose Island brews except for Lagunitas Gnarlye Wine. There were three beers on cask. I sampled two of them and it was clear that the casks were well maintained. Goose Island makes a good mix of beers and there was something for just about everyone, including a good mix of Belgians.
This is one hell of a place. I just wish it was closer to the 'burgh.

the Goose Island Clybourn pub is a great place to grab a brew. however, drinkers not familiar with Goose brews will have their hands full with the selection here. there were around 15 brews on tap when i visited.
service is prompt and friendly. the bartender asked a few times if i needed anything else, and was quick to answer questions avout the available brews.
food is better than most pubs. the chicken wings are great! semi-quick service on the food, only waited about 15-20 minutes.
the beers are poured in the proper glasses (for the most part, although some are still reduced to the tumblers), and are served at the perfect temperatures (at least my nut brown ale was).
overall, this is a great place to check out while in Chicago. a great depth of styles to choose from, and a lively atmosphere that any beer lover will appreciate. cheers!

Went here on the recomendation of BA and my hotel concierge, who was a beer advocater, and I loved it. Housebrew selection was great - about 10 on tap. They had a few that I'd never tried before, such as Belgain Saison and one they called Matilda. Waitress was attentive and really feed into my enthusiasm for the brews, making the experience even more enjoyable. Food was well above bar-type food, with several different burgers including Turkey and Buffalo, and entrees included Buffalo meatloaf. Crowd was friendly, probably averaged around 30yo, and two different baseball games were on the TVs (and they weren't both Chicago teams). Overall, this is definitely one of the better brewpubs I've been to - good food, dedication to great beer, good service, and good atmosphere.

Goose island Clybourn is a great brewpub. I have been to 25 or so major microbrew breweries around the country and the selection here is the best I have personally encountered. The selection is highly variable with new beers frequently and excellent seasonal selections. The facility is great for having beer, grabbing food and watching a sporting event or just hanging out with fellow beer lovers. The bar staff is knowledgeable and appreciates your wanting to learn about their beers. I would recommend sitting at the bar, even if you plan to eat. Then, perhaps the most important part, the beers are all very good. I get to Chicago 2 times a year or so and I always make time to make my way to this brewpub.

I can't say enough good things about this place. Great selection of Goose Island stuff (tons that you can't get anywhere else, as well as favorites like 2010 BCS) and the service is phenomenal. I went there for my birthday and ended up getting several free drinks from the bartender. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat, it's not too loud or overdone but isn't boring either. Overall I love the Clybourn brewpub for their unique selection of brews and wonderful service. I will definitely be back again.

Excellent place to have a drink, and the food is great. Extensive beer menu, with plenty of beers you can only get on tap here.
The place is always busy, and there's a wide range of patrons, so you'll never feel out of place. The food menu has some great items, and their appetizer range is extremely tasty. Highly recommended for brewpub fans, and a must-visit for anyone who likes at least one Goose Island beer!

Came here on the 16th of Sept on a trip to Chicago. I was not sure what to expect, but I will say this place exceeded all expectations for a brewpub. The atmosphere was dark but warm and welcoming. My wife and I and my son were all treated with equal consideration (and I am the only beer drinker- they have fabulous soda pop too!). Our server was friendly and prompt, never pushy or impatient, while always checking on us, even when things got busier. All the other staff were very pleasant and helpful as well. Food was as good as the excellent beers. All this for a very clearly stated and reasonable price range. I would not hesitate to come back again the next time I am in the area.

Visited GI Clybourn on Friday, 4/25/2013 for lunch and a brew
Atmosphere: Clean, feels like a Chicago style brewpub. A bit empty at lunchtime, but I'm sure that's because everyone was pre-gaming for Dark Lord Day. It was neat to have a brewery window seat and watching the brewers at work. (4)
Quality: Delicious lamb burger and artichoke fritters. Fantastic food. And the cask-conditioned Black Candle was delicious- though the wifey didn't really like the fact that it was a bit warm and had no carbonation (had to explain the difference between keg and cask here). But overall the food and drink were excellent. (5)
Service: Excellent. Our server was very attentive and social, and kept coming by every 15 minutes to make sure we were happy. And we were. (5)
Selection: I think the beer selection could have been better. I don't necessarily ask for BCBS to be on tap but stuff like D-Day or other better brews would have been nice. I think its mainly because the weather was starting to warm up and they were serving up more of the Belgian and hoppy stuff when I wanted the winter stuff. But overall there was a big selection of brews on the menu and I really can't find much fault with the overall selection. (4)
Food: Lamb burger. Done medium-rare. That is all that needs to be said. (5)
Value: Yeah, its a bit pricey, but the service was excellent and the food is great. The beer selection could be better but honestly its my fault for not drinking more than 2 beers. I'll definitely be back especially as Castle Vav is nearby!

Goose Island Clybourn is a bit off the main path for tourists like me, so I was hoping that it would be good for the length of subway travel and walking. Well, I was not disappointed! The bar was full on a Thursday night, with just enough room for us. Our waitress was very helpful and the service was great.
When I was there, both the Nut Brown ale, and Red Felt Ale were on cask. Both were super fresh and served in appropriate glassware, with proper temperature and carbonation levels. Usually they have THREE casks on at a time, but unfortunately they ran out of their cask lager. They had a ton of their other offerings on tap and in bottle form, as well as a guest ale on tap.
If you are in Chicago, Goose Island Clybourn is definitely worth stopping by.

Original Review 7/9/05
Goose Island has a nice neighborly brewpub atmosphere. They have a free jukebox with a decent music selection and enough tv's to catch any sports action. They even have some of the satellite sports packages to get out of market games.
The service is quick with food or drinks unless it is peak hours, which is expected. They are also friendly and it is very easy to strike up a conversation with the bartender when they are not busy. The bartenders/waitstaff can only answer basic questions about the beers which can typically be found in your menu anyway. My only real complaint about the service is when I ask questions (about promotions/mba program, etc), I always get the answer, "they don't tell me those kind of things."
There are typically 10-15 Goose beers on tap and 1 cask beer. They have a great variety of quality beers with many different styles so everyone should be able to find one they like. They also have a list of what is brewing so you know what is coming up. If you ask how a beer is they will give a little sample to try before you order.
The food is very good. They serve a wide variety of dishes covering all your typical bar food and some other dishes I usually don't see in a bar like jambalaya.
Overall this is a great brewpub that has become my regular hang out. They also have enough parking to find a spot even at peak times (a major plus in Chicago). Don't miss their tastings on the last Wed of every month. I just wish they would keep the beers on tap updated better on their website so I don't miss all the special limited releases.
Note: Review is updated as of 9/8/06. I bumped the service up from 4.0 to 4.5. The service has improved since my 1st review with the bartenders now knowing a great deal about the beer and have gone out of their way to provide good serivce a number of times.
