Brewed with the Saison and farmhouse ales of Belgium in mind, we added fresh Raspberries and Brettanomyces to a wine barrel and aged the Saison base for 9 months.

A - Nice pink colored beer with a white head that left just a slight bit of stick on the sides.

S - Smells pretty nice. Do get some raspberries, with a bit of yeast and brett. Good funk and sweetness while still smelling like a saison.

T - Some tartness and sweetness from the raspberries. A little bit of citrus in there with a bit of funk and hay.

M - Nice carbontion, fairly refreshing and light. Lighter bodied.

O - Very easy to drink. Decently tart without being too sweet and has good flavor. Could easily drink this again.

On tap at the Hopleaf in Andersonville in Chicago. From notes.

A nice scarlet color, no real head, a bit of white foam on the top that doesn't last more than a second or two, cloudy like a saison would normally be. The aroma is all raspberry, mild funk, some light hay, but really just sweet raspberry, reads more like a framboise. The flavors are nice, loads of raspberry that is tart and puckering without being too vinegary and sour, in fact almost no vinegar flavors common to many sour beers. The funky flavors are there as is a HINT of grain and yeast, but dominated by the brett and fruit, but the saison elements are not dominant in any way, again, I kept thinking framboise and not at all saison, which is a bit of a shame, this could have been a great experiment. The body is okay, a bit bubbly but I think at this point we are in sour/wild ale territory and all notions of a saison or farmhouse ale should be abandoned.

Verdict: Well, it's probably the best sour GI has brewed to date, and if it gets treated as such, I'd love to drink it again!
