A - Dark red/brown. Some light getting through. Quite cloudy. More head than I would have thought. Lots of
S - Smells strong! Getting some alcohol, yeast, sweet syrupyness. Hmmm, something in there a little strange. Smells like a cellar!
T - Lots of flavor but super mellow in terms of the alcohol. Definitely tastes like it's been on the shelf for 7 years. Very hard to describe--a thick, yeasty, honey-sweet offering with some earthy/animal qualities to it.
O - I've never had icarus before. Trying to appreciate this for its age, but it is not as inviting as I would have liked. Definitely glad to have tried!

A blank white labeled bottle stamped ICARUS05 1537 purchased at the Goose Island King Henry release in 2011. It was stored in a cardboard case the entire time until being refrigerated a month ago.
Poured into a Goose Island Brewpub snifter for the unveiling. There is a slight whisper of carbonation upon opening. The color is a remarkably clean and clear ruby red with a tiny ring of off white foam. The smell is sweet and fruity with raisins, dates, figs and caramel apple. It's quite sweet to taste with raisins, figs, dates and plums. The feel is light flat and dry.
For a bottle that's in its 16th year and traveled by truck over 1000 miles when I moved to CO nearly 3 years ago, I'd say it's held up remarkably well. I'm impressed by the clean color and the fact there is no off taste especially considering the rather low abv. for the style. I believe I may have another stashed away that I'll let sit longer. Perhaps a 20th anniversary opening?
