This beer style was created in the late 1990’s by some breweries on the west coast of the United States, and most notably by Rogue. It’s an extreme version of the American IPA. It’s a beer with strong amber hues and dominating hop flavours and tastes. It is however well balanced through the presence of a combination of malts. This beer is usually dry hopped, a tradition that is adhered to by Dieu du Ciel!. The bouquet of the beer consists of floral hops. In the mouth, the bitterness is quite strong, without being extreme, and the alcohol makes its presence known, without being domineering. The aftertaste is dry and less syrupy than a barley wine. Thus, it is a very complex and bitter beer, but always well balanced.

Pours a hazy bright apricot colour with a good finger and a half of white head - laces nicely.
Aroma is fruity and floral - sense of candy sweetness, but with piney notes and hints of grapefruit, pineapple.
Taste starts sweet and fruity - pineapple, tropical, sweetened grapefruit - but then the hops build into a piney flavour with resinous character and a building earthy bitterness.
Full bodied with an engaging sweetness, a hint of the 9% ABV and a lingering but restrained citrus and earthy bitterness.
Liked increasingly more through the pour.

Pours an attractive hazy orange and my pour left a pretty good head. Head leaves a ton of lacing.
Aroma here is hoppy, quite a sweet malt presence, lots of pine/floral/earthy notes, and some tropical fruit with a lot of citrusy character.
Taste definitely follows the nose here. Very pleasant and quite balanced. I’m picking up 0 alcohol so this one’s dangerous.
The mouthfeel is very nice here. Full bodied and very nice dry finish. Perfect carbonation.
Overall, this isn’t my favourite Dieu du Ciel IPA at all, but it’s super good in its own right. Cool beer.

Picked up in Montreal a little while ago, shared with rudzud as he went with me.
Very little head, but swirling gives a nice head, hazy orange color.
Nose earthy chewy hops, hint pineapple and citrus, apple fruit, caramel thing, very appearance of aged ipa. Little rind and citrus pith.
Taste sweet candy like, little booze, mild citrus and pineapple again, little rind, candy fruit like apricot thing, fair spicy bitterness. Finish is drier, bit more booze, more spicy hops, rind and citrus notes, sweet candy, etc.
Mouth is some booze, decent lighter carb, little sticky.
Overall disappointed, it's a bit older and shows, but the flavours I'm getting seems like fresh it wouldn't be very good either, sweet, candy, bland hops, etc.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a lightly hazy orange with a thin head that fades to leave thin wisps.
S - Aromas of sweet malts, caramel, super faded hops with very light tropical and citrus notes.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, more sweet malts, caramel, old hops, flashes of something good but it's all gone
M - Mouthfeel is super lightly carbonated, almost thin, light alcohol.
O - Overall this beer was a let down, old stale hops.

It pours a very attractive shade of tangerine orange. Hazy and intense. Two inches of frothy white head shows off some good retention. Lace coats the glass in sheets.
Piney and pithy. Lots of grapefruit and plenty of sappiness. I imagine a grapefruit spongecake. Citrus peel adds a lively twang. Its malt backbone is almost equally enticing. Graham cracker, honey, and freshly baked bread gives some extra depth and weight. It's got great balance and no sign of alcohol.
Sweet, pithy grapefruit plants itself right in the middle with layers of citrus peel on top. Green, grassy, piney goodness is all around the edges, imparting a refined and clean bitterness. Graham cracker and toasted bread make for an excellent counterbalance.
It's feel is what makes this IIPA exceptional. It's got the ultra refined and clean characteristics of their Moralite with more fluffiness and chewiness that I'm guessing comes from its wheat content. Its level of bitterness only adds to its drinkability, being refined and refreshingly dry. Its alcohol content is masterfully hidden.
Every time I see a new offering from DDC on the shelves, I won't hesitate to pick it up. This is the reason why. It fits perfectly into the new wave of IPA's and IIPA's that are defined not by their bold and in your face IBU and ABV contents, but instead by how clean, balanced, and refined a 9% IIPA can be packaged up to be. DDC is tough to touch when it comes to their IPA's. Forever I will be a fan.

Pours a nice copper hue with 1 finger of creamy, off-white head with OK retention but nice lacing. The nose features bready malt and pine and citrus hops. The taste has a big bready malt backbone, sweet but without the cloying caramel notes, and is balanced nicely with sweet citrus hops and some nice pine tar. The body is a bit heavy due to slighly lower carbonation. Overall, a very pleasing brew!
