Bought this because the LCBO was out of Peche Mortel. I love me a good IPA so thought I'd give it a whirl

A: Very deep for an IPA. Mahogany

S: Grassy, floral

T: For me, a strange combination of maltiness and hoppiness. I'm not knowledgable enough to know what the particular malts and hops are, but it strikes me as a bit unbalanced

M: Thicker than most IPAs I've tried.

D: It wasn't bad, but this is not an IPA I would go back to very often. For lack of a better word, it's "odd".

Corne Du Diable is an interesting beer. It kinda tastes like a lot of IPAs did while I was getting into the style. Big, spicy, and very flavorful on both the hops and malts. The hops are, as said, of a spicier variety which is irregular for an American-style IPA, but it works here. And there's a lot of them - they aren't the bitterest, but you can tell with the very drying mouthfeel that there's a ton of hops in here. This one reminds me a bit more of some imperial reds that have been trendy recently.

Poured from a 11.5 oz bottle into a footed tulip.

A: Medium brown. Pours a 1 finger, bubbly brown-white head. Settles fairly quickly, leaving a large smattering of bubbles, and a ring of foam around the rim. Plenty of spider web lacing.

S: Malt, pine resin, and almond. A little butterscotch and licorice.

T: Earthy grain. Medium hop. Bitter pecan shells and a touch of dark unsweetened chocolate.

M: Medium body. Bitter finish, that lingers on the palate.

D: Can be downed session style.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Fair head, and some really nice lacing. Nose is piney and earthy. Grainy malt, medium hop, and a little bittersweet-ness. Overall, this is a good quaff.

Poured from 330 mL bottle into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours a dark, murky golden-brown hue with 1/4 inch white head. Decent retention.
S: Pine resin and caramel malt (fairly strong especially for style).
T: Caramel malt dominates again here...pine and citrus notes in the background. Definitely atypical for style.
M: Light-medium body. Mildly bitter. A bit chewy feel. Dry finish.
D: Could be this one had been sitting too long on the store shelf, but the malt character definitely overpowered the hop notes which is just not right for an IPA.

341mL bottle purchased in Montreal. Pours a medium brown color with almost no head. Some lacing. The aroma is earthy with spicy hops, caramel, malts with floral hints. The taste is earthy with spicy and floral hops. Caramel sweetness with some bread. Floral bitterness at the finish. More malt flavor than most American Ipas. Light mouthfeel. Drinkable with a small alcohol presence. Overall, decent.
