Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.
This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

11.2 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Pours a deep chocolate color. Almost black, but some light passes through edges. A tiny khaki head comes and goes quickly, leaving just a bit of lacing..
Smell - Coffee and coffee. Maybe a hint of booze, but still mostly coffee. There is a roasted malt character in the back.
Taste - Delicious coffee flavor, but it's tough to gather any other flavors because the coffee is so dominant. Much like the smell, there is a hint of the roasted malt and some chocolate, but it's a distant second to the coffee. The bitterness in the finish is more of a coffee bitterness than a beer bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Fairly thin for the style. A little bit boozy and not a lot of carbonation. All of that combines to make it feel just too thin.
Overall - So it's good and I like it, but an A? No. Not that good. Too one dimensional with the coffee and too thin
Edit: Ok, apparently I didn't know what I was talking about when I had this. Prohibition Pig had a 2011 keg on (as of July 2013) and it was incredible. Upping my rating accordingly.

Dark pour, thin head. Coffee and dark fruit in the nose. Some sweet cocoa, obviously strong on the coffee and a whole lot of nuttiness. Dry and dusty mouthfeel. It’s been 15 years, at least, since I’ve had. Does not disappoint.

11.5oz bottle. Label information is 'Bottled on 2022-01-27 10:29 LOT:230'.
Black colored body, with a thin garnet colored back lit edge. Finger of tan head reduces to a partial cap and ring. No lacing except for a few scattered spots.
Aroma of coffee, tobacco, dark roasted malts, and vanilla.
Taste is deep and rich because of the thick and coating mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasted malt with a bit of char, dark roast coffee, mocha chocolate, and vanilla. Char does not lead to bitterness. Sweetened coffee with chocolate in the aftertaste.
More than medium mouthfeel. Smooth texture. Low bitterness. Higher ABV% is well managed. Supportive carbonation.
Very smooth drinking coffee stout.

November 1st, 2025: Tried this with a Crunch chocolate bar at beer school, the chocolate and crunch is subtle as the beer overtakes it. You get a hint of the chocolate while tasting the coffee from the beer though.
