Stopped here for dinner and a couple brews. I was with the family, so we went straight to the upstairs dining room. I did not get to see or experience the downstairs bar area.
The dining area was quite nice and in good shape. Comfortable seating was available, as was table space for us to spread out. I do recall quite a bit of memorabilia on walls.
Overall we had a good experience. The service was a little off as the staff forgot some of the food we ordered. They were helpful in other respects, however, especially when it came to children. The menu was fairly comprehensive for a pub and had a wide selection of traditional English pub dishes. The beer selection, however, left something to be desired as there were maybe 4 Green King options to pick from (I went for the Abbot Ale).
The food itself was pretty good. I had a meat pie with mashed potatoes and vegetables, which I enjoyed. I think part of what you are paying for here is the name and the location.

For a pub in London, we thought this place offered a good deal on quality food and beer. The food was better than many of the surrounding pubs and hotels, the prices were much lower than many of the places we'd been and the beer selection, while small, hit the right spot with the food choices.
Four people stopping in twice, each having a meal and two beers each time, left satisfied each time. Next time in London we will return.

Still do not know why I let my wife drag me in here. It looks like a tourist trap, it is a tourist trap and the beers are now from Green King.
I was half way down my pint of cask green King IPA looking at all the Sherlock Holmes stuff on the walls when a tour guide walks in followed by about 80 american tourists (this is early evening), they were on a historic pubs of old London Town walk. I had a good chat with the guide, just to make sure he wasn't going anywhere else I was that evening. I finishedmy pint and moved on.
I am being unfair maybe, it is well laid out and someone has put a lot of effort into nailing up loads of pictures etc of Holmes, the tourists certainly thought it charming and were clicking away with the cameras.
If you or your partner like Sherlock Holmes, why not come and have a look, but it is not really a BA type of bar.

I had visited here many moons ago (Halloween eve, 1986, with Alewife, at the end of our honeymoon trek through Europe, to be exact). So, being back in London recently with my elder daughter, Caitlin, I just had to stop by. This was late afternoon, and not a "holiday", so the place was a bit quieter. Still a good vibe, though. The bar protrudes from the back towards the front, and you can grab tables/seats on 3 sides of it (outside in good weather, too). I also believe there's more room to quaff/dine to the far back/right of the Pub. Sort of low lighting, with brass and wood all over. Had me a London Pride this time; they had lots of the Fuller line available. Service at the bar was cool, and the bier hit the spot. Last time I visited they had a Sherlock Holmes Museum upstairs; didn't notice it, but it must still be there, along with the Holmes paraphernalia strewn about the pub. Good spot, man!!
