On tap at the brewpub today. A medium bodied stout aged in Heaven Hill barrels with added coffee and vanilla beans.

The pour is gorgeous. Black with a dense, creamy, long-lasting head with excellent retention and lacing, this beer looks fantastic. The nose, OTOH, is a bit of a disappointment. Up front is the coffee, overdone, over-roasted, and a little stale even, with the vanilla complementing it. Behind it is the roasted grain and chocolate grain notes, along with a faint dried sour cherry aroma that smells like it could actually be from the coffee. The palate is similar, with the coffee and vanilla being more in balance, but the coffee still too strong for my liking while tasting stale-ish. The sour cherry flavor is more noticeable, and lingers on in the finish. The barrel character is hardly noticeable. The mouthfeel is actually quite nice, with the medium-bodied beer working nicely with the soft carbonation and the chocolate and roasted grain notes. However, the coffee is just a little overdone. Decent.
