Stout NYC is my go to spot in the Madison Square Garden area. I stopped in this weekend prior to the Duke vs. St. Johns game on Sunday.

The bar opened at 11:00 and was quickly packed. We were able to grab a table right near the bar with waitress service which was a godsend. Stout is huge, but laid out kind of quirky. Downstairs is large as well, but it's not always open.

Otherwise, the bar is decorated in a modern take on the typical Irish pub. There are about 30 taps which have a decent amount of stouts available with a decent amount of other beers on tap, but nothing mind blowing. The bottle list is long, but undistinguished as well. They also have a monthly featured brewery on tap. This month was Goose Island. I ended up having a few pints of Left Hand Milk Stout and one pint of Goose Island IPA.

The food is usually pretty good, although I didn't eat this time, and the prices are a touch high, but it's in a touristy part of Manhattan, so I can't really complain.

All in all, Stout is a good place for a few pints and a burger before any event at the Garden.

My only knock on the place is this. If you have Stout in your name, you should have several stouts on tap. The entire tap list on our visit consisted of beer that are orange, yellow or red. Plenty of stouts in the bottle though.

We stopped in as the next to last stop of an afternoon beer fest/crawl with friends. Vibe was a bit faux-Irish bar but frankly I was expecting less due to location. We were quite comfortable and service was rather good.

As mentioned, there were no stouts on tap so we had to "make do" with the bottle selections which were quite lovely. The Schlafly Impy Stout listed on the menu was, sadly, out of stock, but we made it work.

I'd stop in again next time in the area. It's no Rattle n Hum but it's pretty good.

a must for any stout lover. around 30 stouts in the bottle nad another 6 or so on tap. 5 nitro lines. great selection of beers both in the bottle and on tap. 22 tap lines and 130 or so in the bottle overall. some great beers to choose from as well. good service and very nice atmosphere. kinda of like a new twist on the irish pub feel. neer rattle n' hum and a must stop for anyone looking for good beer bars in new york. a very comfortable and clean atmnosphere. reasonable prcing for new york, well worth the experience.

Stopped in here on an early Thursday afternoon for lunch before heading back to Boston. Grabbed a seat at the bar. Pretty quiet when I first walked in, but the lunch crowd really stormed in about half an hour later. Stout is a large Irish bar, but subtly decorated. There is also an elevated seating area, which I liked, along with the wrought iron lighting fixtures. Service was good. Even though both female bartenders were in the middle of their daily prep, both were friendly and smiled a lot. The beer selection was wide. Of course, they have five different stout on tap, plus some local craft beer like three Brooklyn, and they also featured Captain Lawrence Brewing as the beer of the month with three taps. Since I was at a place called Stout, I had to order a draft stout, so I went with an upstate NY brewery called Keegan Ales Mother's Milk Stout. The chicken sandwich I ordered hit the spot but was overall forgettable. The bartender gave me a free Coke, which was nice. A decent Irish bar to check out. Just FYI, a quick walk to MSG.

Knew about this place one St. Patrick's Day with relatives. We'd always walk past this pub to get to the parade after spending some time in the bar next door to it (Blarney Rock). Tried it for good after a job fair at the Garden.

Atmosphere: Not really much in terms of people. Then again, it was on an afternoon on a work-day, and happy hour was still a while away. Decor was very nice, and they have a downstairs pub as well if upstairs gets too close for comfort.

Quality: Pleasant; the time of day I came in helped a lot, but it was still pleasant, very nice setting.

Service: Had a charming lady from Ireland be my bartender for the course of my stay. Was very helpful in my curiosity over a particular stout (Coco Loco).

Selection: Pretty vast; beers ran the gamut from lagers (Brooklyn, Yuengling) to stouts (Guinness, Coco Loco).

Food: Chowed down on a burger with bacon and Irish aged cheddar. Definitely worth what I paid, it was delicious.

Overall, I would recommend one to go in there, though at night it does get crowded. Try going there during the day for lunch.

Came here after fireworks on 4th and pretty busy but we were seated quickly and service was attentive and friendly. Music and vibe not overpowering and they have sports on the tvs so it has a business to it but not in your face. They have a good selection but there are no diamonds in the rough - selection is mixed between American micros and imports. Pretty much the only thing they have that is hard to find is the local NY beers if you're an out of towner. Since it was right by my hotel I'm glad I stopped in and it's a nice place, but not my first beer bar selection in NYC.

Located about a block away from Penn Station, this place always seems to have a large crowd no matter what time of day. The decor is of your traditional Irish bar mixed with a modern sports bar. The place is much bigger than it looks. Long bar on one side with dining tables along the other sides. There is another level on the outside edges which has more tables. The middle is left open creating a catherdral ceiling feel when at the bar. Plenty of TVs around to watch the games. The bar has a fairly large selection which contains mainly macros and widely available micros or pseudo micros, most of these are in bottle form. It has a larger selection of stouts than most main stream bars but you won't find anything exceptional. The list that they have beers on cask but the time I went they only had a cider. The bar has plenty of taps but I believe most of them are duplicates. I didn't try any food so can't comment there. I managed to find a small standing spot by the bar. Service was prompt but nothing spectacular as the place was pretty jammed at the time. The place is nice for your average beer drinker but falls short for beer bar enthusiasts. You're best bet is to walk a few blocks over to Rattle n Hum or the Gingerman.

Stopped in before a Rangers-Sabres game at MSG. Lucked in to two stools at the bar on a very crowded pre-game. Nice vibe of hockey fans. I tried the Keegan Ales Mothers Milk stout and stayed with it. They had a few other stouts, and what you would expect from faux irish pub - Stella, Sam, Brooklyn etc.

Asked (female) bartender if any "local" stouts on tap. She replied they had no local beers - then saw Brooklyn tap handle...huh? Asked about Mothers Milk Stout - "a stout from Kingston, NY." Sorry - but that is local enough for me!

Overall, bartenders were fun and working hard with a big crowd. No worries. Ordered 3 appetizers - typical bar food - again - no problems - filled our needs.

A good option pre-game - just enough good beers on tap - not a BA type place, but enough good beers on tap to make most BA's happy before a game.

A sort of "modern Irish" themed pub, though a bit unfocused. Overall the vibe is pretty good, and the location seems to pack in the crowds. I couldn't even approach the bar the night I was here.

With a name like Stout you would expect a focus on the beer style, and while they do indeed offer a decent range of offerings both on tap and in bottle/can, there is so much missing. Frankly, they may as well have named the place Lager, because there are more lagers in stock than stouts. Only 5 of the 20 taps are stouts, and the rest are average to good, but there is nothing is unusual. They do have perhaps 30 or so stout offerings in bottle/can, which is nothing to sneeze at, and there are some nice things here.

But with perhaps 90 or so more bottle offerings from around the world, including more than a fair shake of macros, it just seems that they missed the boat. I mean, do we really need bottles of Fosters, Molson, Rolling Rock, Stella (which is also on tap), Becks, Tiger, Corona, etc.? I could go on. How about some DFW WW Stout, or Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout, or Orkney Dragonhead Stout, or even something obvious like Belhaven Stout? Sure, I can find something I'll drink here, but with a name like Stout and the ability to offer such a wide selection, it is surprising they offer so much that is average or below average (holding back from giving a lower rating because there are some very good things on the menu).

There were two cask offerings listed, though both were tapped out the night I was here.

The food was fine, a step above average pub grub. I'll cut the servers some slack because they handled the crowd pretty well. But I did get a twinge of attitude from the bartender for asking about their casks (he didn't know what was offered, or that they were tapped out). It took about 20 minutes all told to get a drink at which point our table was ready. The waitress gave me some attitude because I sat down with the beer I had ordered from the bar while waiting to be seated... ayayay. After my meeting (I met someone here for business) I proceeded to the Blind Tiger and had a great evening.

Bottom line, decent enough if you are in the area and don't have time to seek out something better. Though beware of extra crowded times.

More of a macro-beer place, its huge, and central to the Broadway Street crowd. Sparse micro taps, and even at that, to supplement Irish dry stouts and the like. They could take their craft beer more seriously, and then this place would rock. You could easily do a festivale here. Warehouse effect, with wooden tables and chairs. One gem I was looking for, and on their website, orkney dragonhead, I did not see. Worth a bit more walk to the better bars to the east of manhattan.Crowd was young, I am told the food is nothing to write home about.
