The first thing that hits you about a Samuel Smith beer is the attractive regal presentation of the bottle. Next I noticed the gargantuan of aromas flowing up from the Taddy. Coffees, chocolates and some heavy sweets like molasses, licorice or old bittersweet candies rising from the very dark brown to black beer with a nice head. This brew has probably one of the strongest aroma that I ever encountered in the beer world outside of a ridiculous extreme beer idea. .

The texture is what I describe as -- porter like. This is not a thick rich stout. Instead, Taddy is more like a thinned stout or thickened ale. What a Porter probably should be? Maybe it is a little thin for me.

The taste is strong, bold, and rich. A good balance of sweet malts against bitter chocolate and coffee flavors. The bold flavors risked a too gritty result. But don't despair. Alas, we have a wonderful balance of flavors here. That molasses aroma leaves a very similar after taste. Now I know why this Taddy is famous.

Drink this bold English Taddy Porter to one of the best bold English+ bands ever. Play some Barry Guy and his London Jazz Composer Orchestra Theoria cd! Straight ahead no stops.

Cheerio

This is truly a classic English porter and I've been drinking it for nearly 30 years! Nice to see that it's finally in brown bottles.

A: deep, dark with nice tan head, dissipated but held on for awhile
S: deep, roasted, some sulfury notes
T: deep roasted/burnt malt, sulfurish
M: coats the mouth from roasted grains

If I could only take five beers to Valhalla, Samuel Smith's The Famous Taddy Porter would be one of them.

Out pours a dark clean brown porter with a smooth creamy head. There is a fantastic aroma that comes from the West Yorkshire Square Yeast. The taste of roasted malts is one to savor as it gives way to mellow hints of coffee and chocolate. A semi-sweet nutty molasses or butterscotch note lingers in the middle until the dry fruity esters take over at the end.

A Beer, A beer, My Kingdom for a Beer, now If only I could afford to buy this Taddy Porter in Kegs. In conclusion, this is a perfectly blended Porter, one that is generous in both the iconic beauty of beer flavors while yet never being overbalanced in harmonious perfection. Clearly the legacy of Samuel Smith continues till this day and in my opinion stands out as a uniquely proud king of beers without equal.
