Poured from the 16 ounce can into a pint glass. Semi rigorous pour produces just under an inch of tan head. Leaving a thinish skin of head. Lace rings all the way down. Color is black, with auburn highlights when held to light.
Aroma of lightly toasted malt and protein oats.
Flavor is roasted chocolate grains, oats, burnt chocolate, mild earthy hops and burnt sugar. A faint wisp of maple and vanilla.
Mouthfeel is an abundance of carbonation, more stout like, oats not really lending much to the feel.

Overall a medicore entry to the style. Happy I got to try it, but not somthing I'd seek out. Not terrible beer by any means eaither. It follows the style fairly well.

Oaky's Oatmeal Stout pours a black color, with a small lacing head. Their is a light malty aroma, with hints of a creamy oatness. The taste his a nice roasted maltness and just hints of a creamy oat like flavor. It is slightly watery, but nicely carbonated. Overall its a nice oatmeal stout.

Served from a 16oz can

Dark, nearly black brew with nice dense head. Heavy roast aroma with bitter chocolate.
Burnt chocolate and heavy roast flavors - not very complex, but very tasty, I think. Smooth on the palate but could be thicker - this is a pretty thin, carbonated brew.

I would grab this again if I see it. It's a nice, tasty brew.

16oz can into a Duvel tulip.

A: A steady pour yields an inch of tight tan foam atop a black body that glints dark brown around the edges. The head shows only average retention, but spectacular lace. Good looking stout.

S: Highly roasted aroma of coffee and bakers’ chocolate. A swirl of the tulip causes the beer to open up magnificently, adding a deeper level of milk chocolate and caramel malt sweetness. Great balance of sweetness and bitter char. Very nice indeed.

T: A bit more restrained than the nose, with the roast really dominating throughout – dark chocolate up front, coffee on the finish. As it warms the oats give a bit of soft, nutty sweetness, but the char is really the major player here. Despite that fact, however, astringency is kept mercifully at bay. Nicely assertive for the low ABV, if not quite as enchanting as the aroma.

M: A little light on body, with a moderate dose of rather prickly carbonation. Definitely not this beer’s strong suit, but with a few more swirls the carbonation at least loses its edge.

O: I’m a huge fan of craft beer in cans, so I jumped at the chance to try this beer now that it’s in tall-boys. I really enjoyed the bottled version last summer, and the can did not let me down in the least. If you’re looking for a tasty, easy-drinking stout that doesn’t skimp on roastiness, you can do a heck of a lot worse. I do wish it had a bit more heft in the body and sweetness on the palate, but that would just make it resemble an RIS, which of course it isn’t trying to be. As much as it pains me, a Spooner native, to praise a beer from Hayward, I have to give this a lot of credit.

From notes:

A rich black appearance with a tan thick head so nice this far. Taste is just watery nothing really standing out in the beer. Overall disappointing, not enough malt or body to really be good. It may do as a sort of trainer for dark beer but really most don't need this beer.

Originally reviewed April 9, 2005. On tap at the Gitchee Gumee Brewfest 2005. This beer is quite astounding and this brewery is impressive. A dark beer, with an amber head. Main flavor notes are honey, cane sugar, and sweet almonds. Finishes with that typical oaky dryness.

Oak's Oatmeal Stout is served on Nitro. The beer is black with garnet highlights. It has a dense tan head and nice lacing.

It has a nice roasted almost smoky malt nose.

The beer is slightly bitter like dark chocolate, which is evident in the taste. Some subtle coffee notes and some sweetness later with a bit of molasses and yes oatmeal. Some hop based bitterness late, which adds a nice unexpected surprise.

The mouth is a trifle thin, but the nitro adds some nice smoothness. This is an easy enough drinker that was very popular with the denzines of the Pub.

On nitro at the brewpub, this(as are all their beers)is served in an imperial pint glass. The color is black. When held up to the light, it has a dark ruby appearance. There is a brown head with good retention. Initially this stout is fairly oderless, but acquires a light toasty and chocolate smell as it warms. It is served a bit too cold, but the flavors really come out as the beer warms. There is a burnt chocolate malt taste as well as some creaminess. There is minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is initially a bit light, but this too rectifies itself as the brew warms. This is very drinkable and is a nice example of the style.

On-tap at Gitchee Gumee Brewfest - Very dark brown with a medium fluffed cocoa brown head. Some spotty lacing sticks and keeps a thin collar.

Aroma is of dark roasted barley and some chocolate and oat sweetness. A bit soft, but clean and inviting.

Nice dark roast taster with a subdued sweetness of oats and caramel. Smooth on the palate with that certain roasty twang that most Oatmeal Stouts tend to carry. Lighter hop of Cenntenial bite breifly makes an appearance at some rougher edging around the roastyness at the finish where lighter bits of cocoa, vanilla, and coffee breezily dance off the dry finish.

Feel is shy of medium body, roasty smooth and clean, brief up front but does pick up towards the finish with some fair amount of body and complexity. A well done and drinkable version.
