Enjoyed at Maui Brewing Co. brewpub in Lahaina in Sept 2010. On tap into tulip glass.
Appearance: pours a deep amber color
Smell: smells of hops but not over powering. Very similar to the DFH 90 min compared to 60....it gets milder and more sweet with more hops.
Taste: as mentioned, tastes like a 90 min DFH but maybe not as refined. Strong 8.9 ABV in this one.
Mouthfeel: drinks smooth. Doesn't over power the mouth with bitterness.
Drinkability: definitely would have again, but not something I would have more than one in a sitting.
Cheers.

On-tap at Stone
A: The pour is a medium amber color with a finger or so worth of slightly off-white head.
S: Sweet tropical fruits and caramel malt, and that's pretty much it. Maybe a bit of sweet grapefruit, too.
T: For as sweet as the nose is, there's a very sharp bitterness to the flavor. There is also a lot of alcohol flavor. At least there are some good grapefruit, pineapple, and pine flavors so this isn't a total bust.
M: The body is medium and sort of syrupy for a DIPA. The carbonation is moderate.
D: Not much here that I find pleasing in terms of a DIPA. Too sweet and just hot and boozy.

This beer isn't retired.
Pours an orange-ish copper with a bit of a ruddy hue to it. Maybe half an inch of foam.
Smells like malt. Hmm.... surprising amount of caramel. Maybe a bit of more tropical fruits, and some sweet grapefruit, but it's a malt forward DIPA.
Taste is surprisingly muted in terms of hops, as the aroma led me to believe would be the case. Definitely more of a sweet, caramel-y, brown sugar-y beer, with some citrus and tropical fruits thrown in. Almost no bitterness to it, and I couldn't detect any pine.
Eh. Juicy, thick, but their big swell is a superior beer.

Bought a growler from the brewpub. At the brewery, we tried everything available and this was definitely in the top 3 (with CocoNut Porter and Red Cock DoppelBock). I like that the beer names include the beer style, it makes it easier to choose.
This is a pretty good DIPA, similar to the sweeter varieties but also includes a strong acidy grapefruit component. The alcohol is kind of easy to detect but it's really delicious anyway. I found this to be stronger in flavor and aroma than Dreadnaught or Ruination (classical standards), maybe it's closer to Hopslam or Stone 10th (new standards for me).
