Poured into a red wine glass. Not the best for head retention, but all that was clean.

Pretty standard imperial stout appearance. Pitch black. Solid tan that fades to a thin lacing.

Aroma is not overpowering, but still has a lot going on. Roasted malt and some coffee first. Dark chocolate. Fruity also, cherry and the licorice/anise I get from good stouts.

Pretty bitter up front, with some coffee flavors. Good roasted malt flavor. Sweeter through the middle, but still very astringent. A bit harsher than I would like with the bitterness. Finishes fairly smooth, with some of the fruitiness from the aroma. A nice alcohol warmth to it. Coffee and roasted malt lingers for a while.

Mouthfeel is a bit puckering. Felt like I was drinking red wine at times.

Overall very enjoyable. Not my favorite. I would drink a Ten FIDY first, but I still enjoy this one. Given its availability and reasonable price, definitely one to keep around.

Poured into a goblet

A - Pours a sexy completely black liquid, which liberates a 2 finger light brown head that slowly faded and left light lacing.

S- great nose of chocolate, mocha, light vanilla and light malt. great nose

T - Awesome wave of mostly the same as the taste. Chocolate, coffee and malt. Very nice.

M - Full bodied and lightly chewy. Drinks well.

O - After trying many very good RIS, this still satisfies and impresses. It is worth finding and drinking on a regular basis.

12 oz bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger mocha head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pitch black color with no clarity or bubbled seen coming up the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Roasted coffee, mocha, smoke, sweet malts, a little booze, and molasses. Pretty standard RIS aroma.

Taste: Same as above with lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, full bodied, low carbonation, and a little boozy.

Overall: Pretty solid RIS. Enjoyed in the past, now, and more in the future.
