Flemish style sour ale was initially brewed as a Belgian style quadruple ale. Oud 15 was aged for two years in second generation red wine barrels which previously held our Jaspers beer. Blended and steeped with Montmorency sour cherries and bottle conditioned with Belgian candi sugar, Oud 15 represents the culmination of 15 years of brewing, and is worthy of the commemoration.

This one pours a fairly cloudy dark brownish/red color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells a bit acetic, with red wine barrel, tannic wine, oak, dry dusty cherry, old funk, vanilla, and caramel.
I imagine that this one was better about 3-4 years ago, but there are still some vestiges of greatness left here. The acidic/acetic character has taken over a bit, but there's still a great big caramel/vanilla maltiness to this, with dusty, funky, and slightly vinegary cherries, with lots of red wine barrel. There's definitely some sherry-like (and slightly cardboardy) oxidation going here. It's a style that can handle oxidation, but I'd certainly want less.
This is medium bodied, with no hint of the booze, and a lower level of carbonation.
I wish I had tried this many years ago, but I'm still happy to have tried it nonetheless.
