750 ml bottle poured into a Cantillon balloon glass
Appearance: Pours a dark red, almost light purple color with a finger of white heads that dissipates to a thick collar and some patchy coating. Body is hazy but transparent with some moderate visible carbonation.
Smell: Big melange of berries, with raspberry and blackberry being the most readily identifiable. Additional notes of red grape, hay, funk and oak, with a slight lactic character as well.
Taste: Similar to tha aroma. General dark berry character with no one individual berry really standing out. Also notes of red grape, lacto, funk and oak. Some blueberry character comes out on the finish as well. Sourness is surprisingly lower than the aroma (and the beer style) would lead you to believe. Still sour, but definitely on the lower end.
Mouthfeel: Light/medium bodied with a somewhat soft mouthfeel and medium lively carbonation. Finishes tart and dry. Very light alcohol warming sensation after the finish. Surprisingly high drinkability.
Overall: Excellent beer. Lots of nice flavors and really well balanced. One of the better American fruited sours I've had. Definitely worth trying.

A: reddish purple color with a lot of carb. The pinkish white head never fades. S: there is some berry smell, with a bit of some funk...not the best smelling sour beer I've had. T: at first, it tasted like cough syrup or like a wine cooler fruit taste. After a while, it started changing for me...the fruit flavor started to develop and there is some great funk, but not sour, similar to lambics. M: well carbed, but not over carbed. O: so this beer gets some poor ratings. I think my buddy and I came to a conclusion as to why. At first, I was disappointed by this beer. It wasn't bad, just not as good as the beer I traded for it. But after I got into it a bit, it improves. I think that this beer was not quite ready when it was bottled, so that would be why it tastes the way it does at first and slowly develops as you get into it. I'll test this hypothesis on the next bottle, let it sit a few more years and see what happens

Pours a bright reddish amber with a decent little head. Smells tart and smooth with clear nodes of wood and barely, like a cross between a Kriek and an Oud Brun. Nice, and like I said it's really impressively smooth for the amount of tartness, but it's still quite sharp and rich.
Tastes excellent up front, a little weird in the back. Starts off with bacterial tartness embiggened by berries and mellowed by wood. The middle is sharp and fizzy, the finish is berries, the aftertaste is a little like cough syrup. That knocks it down a bit, but it's not too bad, and overall the beer still works wonderfully.
I absolutely do not get the wide variation of reviews. This is either excellent or very good, depending on your preferences. Unless some bottles or just off. Whatever. This isn't off. This is great.
