500 ml bottle, brew #449, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 5.5%. Amber to copper colour, slightly hazy. Moderate head, slightly off-white. The aroma has notes of ripe berries and caramel, hints of honey, but also unpleasant notes of rotting green apples and ammonium. The medium sweet flavour has some malts, caramel and rotting fruits, and has an overall coarse character of not very successful homebrew, possibly infected. Low bitterness. This is undoubtedly the least attractive brew I’ve had from Herslev.

Vintage 2008. Bath No. 152.

Serving date: 2009-01-13.

Served in snifter.

Presentation: 500 ml bottle with freshness date on label. A short description of taste profile on the label, and some recommended food pairings. The label also says that the beer was originally brewed for the annual viking games in Fredriksund (Denmark).

Appearance: Pours a dark amber, which is a bit cloudy, with a 1 cm creamy head that dissipates quickly. Small lacings . Some yeast residues appear in the glass.

Smell: Aromas of sweet malts up-front are coupled with honey and hints of spices of some kind. A slight bitterness can also be noted.

Taste: Again, a sweet malty flavor takes the lead. Then a mix of honey, fruits - mostly melon - spices and a faint, faint note of sweet licorice candy. The finish is characterized by a distinct but not overpowering bitterness and notes of lemon. The taste of this brew was actually rather uneven and edgy. It's not bold. Instead it sprawls in different directions. Towards the end it actually tends to come out a bit bland. Alcohol presence is almost unnoticeable.

Mouthfeel: Smooth. Very smooth, actually. Pleasant body. The mouthfeel is really the highlight of the beer.

Drinkability: Overall, I must say I find this to be kind of a strange beer. It's not a bad one - the taste offers some interesting and pleasant flavors and the smooth mouthfeel is great. Rather, its more interesting than good. I could probably see myself having it again though.

NOTE: The label says 5,5 % ABV-level.

Batch #152.

The colour is deep amber-brown; the liquid is a bit cloudy as the beer is bottle conditioned. The two finger airy head sinks to a thick lid leaving no lacing.

The smell is surprisingly hoppy and bitter. Fruity notes (pineapples, green apples, kiwi), some sour notes, hints of yeast, coffee and wheat dough. It is a bit unclean.

The taste is dry bitter and lightly roasted. Then, a mild sweetness emerges. Some sour hints of wheat and spicy-bitter hops. The aftertaste brings some mild flavours of honey, allspice, cloves, rye crisp bread and a gentle bitterness.

The carbonation is medium to strong; the small bubbles are very refreshing. The liquid is smooth.

I... don't really get this beer: It feels like an experiment from a homebrewer "Lets brew something from all thing I got at home". A little too unclean and hoppy with notes of crisp bread (from the rye malt) and sour dough (wheat malt) with some odd yeasty-spicy hints.

Bottle@home, shared with dad!

A: Amber with a lace that disappears a bit too quickly.

S: Fruit, Honey, Apricot, Hint of metal, Alcohol, Citric notes.

T: Fruits a plenty, Herbs, Caramel, Dark sugar and a very pleasant bitterness at the end.

M: Nicely balanced brew that goes down easy. Very fruit and plenty of carbonation to go around.

If this didn't cost $8 for 0.5L bottle, i'd drink it more often. Still, a very nice brew that i think is a bit unappreciated. Recommended!
