Pours just about black. Viscous. About 2 fingers of tan head. I've seen this beer a couple times before but this is still exciting.
Burnt toast, licorice, malted milk, a twinge of maybe chocolate orange. Lovely nose. Plays out in the mouth about the same. Milk chocolate, molasses and black cherry along for the ride. A whole different profile to a big stout. Almost overwhelming amounts of flavor. Bittersweet and slightly astringent. Long finish with a decent amount of hop bitterness.
A fairly full-bodied beer with a fine and unobtrusive level of carbonation. Slightly warming. Profound and contemplative. I need to stop fucking around and buy a dozen to age. Love this.

The beer comes in a dark brown with a small brown head.
The aroma is of sweet brown sugar and black coffee.
The taste is wonderful. So very different from other porters. It tastes of almost like brown sugared watered down coffee. In a good way, it's extremely tasty. There is a vanilla and light roasted malt flavor. It has a clean finish and good carbonation.
It is very easy to drink with a nice dark sugar pop. I'm not sure where to place it with Baltic Porters, but I can surely say it's one of the best beers I've had.

Pours black with a tan head.
Nose shows roasted and bready malt, some nutty notes and a bit of cocoa.
Sweet flavours of chocolate liqueur, roasted malt, soft coffee, bready malt and booze. Too sweet.
Could use higher carbonation to cut the sweetness.

Been a long, strange ride through the Top 100 Canada that became the Top 50 with the recent overhaul. Glad to close that chapter and move on to more discoveries.
Also, "Been Away For Too Long" by Soundgarden rings in my head while i'm having this beer. Been too long since i've had this classic.
Poured from a 750ml. bottle, bottled 11/2012.
Appearance: An opaque black body fills the glass and above it sits a rather large brown head that takes its sweet old time while bubbling away on the surface.
Smell: Roasted notes, cherries, figs, rum cake, nuts, charred wood.
Taste: Rum balls more than cake, nuts, milky robust espresso, woody vibe, sweet molasses a bit, an almost port-like finish that compliments the permeating dark cherries.
Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, a prolonged presence in the palate.
Overall: A classic that has great potential for aging. Excellent all around.

2011 brew, cellared for 1 year
Appearance: full but airy, mocha head, lasts 5 mins; dark brown, almost black
Aroma: the usual roast flavours - coffee, anise, chocolate, with anise and chocolate taking the lead; the difference is a distinctly fruity aroma that is almost on par - raspberry, dark cherry
Taste & Mouthfeel: rich, full chocolate flavour blends well with fruit - raspberry, orange; like a chocolate covered raspberry; great length, with the flavours in synch and intermingling from start to finish; enough bitterness from the roast to provide some balance, but predominantly a sweeter beer, good as a dessert pairing; fresh, bright, light mouthfeel with almost no sense of alcohol; velvety smooth
Overall: a fantastic blend of flavour and silky mouthfeel make for a great brew, everything balanced well

Les Trois Mousquetaires 'Grande Cuvee Porter Baltique' @ 10.% , first time tried/had on tap at GCBF and it was one of my fav's , this review from 2011 edition corked 750 ml bottle purchased for $12 (its worth it)
A-pour is a dark brown almost black in the glass with small tan head that is quickly dissapating leaving no lace along the pint glass
S-fresh fruit mix , strong hints of booze , also some floral smells
T-such a surprising sweet start , mellows in the middle , so smooth
MF-medium carbonation , full bodied , just a little lingering bitterness at the back of the throat as it warms the body going down
Ov-if you like big beers with some sweetness to them & don't mind paying a little extra $ welcome to one of Canada's best beers , this big beer also gets better as it warms , gets better as more is consumed so says my Mom , cause it's her new favourite , spend a little extra $ , put one away for cellaring and enjoy this beer

Thanks to jmgrub for sharing this one at drewone's place.
2011 vintage.
Pours an almost opaque super dark reddish-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, smoke, and wood. Taste is much the same with a smoke and cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some great aromas and flavors.
