I went to this place about a month ago for a pre-wedding party. I tried the IPA, DIPA, and the Salem Gold Ale (or something like that.) I didn't try the food, because I was just there for the drinks. The IPA (Hoppyum) and DIPA (Seeing Double) were very, very excellent beers. I really did not like the Salem Gold, but to each's own. The service wasn't great, but it was a large party, and we ended up being there late so I wasn't too concerned. From what I remember, parking is a little difficult to find, but it's not bad. Good place, I'd recommend it.

I was quite pleased with myself that on one trip through the southeast I was able to get to both Pisgah and Foothills Brewing. I was even more happy that I loved both places despite them being so different. (see Pisgah review if you care)
Located in a downtown area this appears to be a standard, brew house/restaurant. Fairly new, bright and nicely decorated. Has a comfortable and professional feel to it. The staff was insanely pleasant and within minutes I was being given tastes of beers that weren’t officially released yet. What I like about Foothills is that they clearly seem to have a handle on their brand. All packaging, atmosphere, service and of course the quality of the beer speak with one voice. You can sense the cohesive message here.
I could easily sit at this bar and discuss beer with the bartender and other patrons all day. These are clearly beer people. Didn’t try any food, but the beer was all top notch.
When in the area, this is a must stop. Great spot.

We will review FootHills Brewing Company again after we return to the area this spring. We stopped in for an early dinner at the Brewing Company in April 2010. It took a while to get seated, and even longer to order some of their selections on tap. The waitstaff looked pretty harried, which was surprising as it was before the dinner rush at 500 pm. We had several different waiters during this visit, it was very jumbled service. Food was of a decent quality, but nothing special. Mostly regular pub fare, fried dill-pickles, chicken caeser wrap, hamburgers were some of the slections in our party. Price was on the expensive side for sandwich type meal. I do remember our beer selections from the tap/Foothills Pilot Mountain Pale Ale , was very good. Next visit we may try the sampler. Will do a more complete review in May 2011 following next visit!

Came here on a road trip for dinner and beers.
Nice laid back pub-ish feel, brick walls, posters of their beer labels, nice music. Comfortable.
They have a decent beer selection. I had a flight, Salem Gold and Torch Pilsner were my favorites from their year round selection. Sexual Chocolate on tap was quite good.
Had the ribs with sauteed veggies and mac & cheese. Ribs were super tender and the half rack was huge. Sides were awesome.
The staff were all very nice, and my waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about their beers.
Overall very nice. I'd come out here somewhat often if I lived in the area.

Nothing else in NC even comes close to this establishment - IMHO. The giant space is all about the beer as far as I am concerned. As mentioned by the other reviewers, this place is huge. I would not hesitate to bring a party of 20 in at any time.
The bar was pretty full, and I was eventually able to land a seat at the end. They had $3 Hoppyums on, so I started with one, and ordered up a cheeseburger with pub fries - they were very good. The Hoppyum IPA was dead on, on par with any IPA I have tried anywhere else.
For dessert I ordered up a Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout, and it lived up to the hype. I could have drank 3 more, but since I was driving I quit after 1, I am bring a designated driver when I return.
Do yourself a favor and make it here.

My wife and I spent the better part of a weekend getaway (that's what I told her it was so that she would come with me anyway) here during Sexual Chocolate weekend 2011.
A: Very spacious, with a huge bar area that was packed to the hilt both days that we went. The lighting and decor was very inviting and was very reminiscent of some of the moderate-upscale restaurants that I frequent.
Q: About the beer: Well.... this weekend was all about Sexual Chocolate, so I got to try both the 2008 and 2011 version and both were fantastic. Some other notables that ranged from very good to excellent: Baltic Porter, Hoppyum, and Seeing Double.
S: I guess it was as good as it could have been given the volume of people there for the event. However, a few of my friends ordered food at different times and some of the ones who ordered on the late side got their food first. Curious....
Sel: In terms of beer, most of the more common styles were covered. For food, the fare ranged from bar food (eg. fish and chips, burger) to more gourmet selections (shrimp and grits).
F: Everything my wife and I tried was very good with the possible exception of the spinach dip... neither of us really cared for that. NOTE: The shrimp and grits was absolutely fantastic!
V: Since this is near a college campus (Wake Forest), it seemed like the items were priced accordingly. The beers ran between $4-5 and the food was also reasonable priced as well. Large burgers and pizzas for $10-12!
From what I gather, this place is pretty much a fixture in Winston-Salem, and I definitely see why...

After spending an inordinate amount of time here this past weekend for the '11 SC release, I felt obligated to write a review.
The atmosphere is really nice. It's clean and urban-chic with a touch of southern gothic in the arcitecture. There are two, four and six tops scattered throughout the dimly lit dining room.
The bar is pretty awesome. Really well constructed and quite long, you could squeeze quite a few beer lovers across this bad boy. Strictly Foothills beers on tap, though they did have Bud Lite et al, which kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Who goes to a brewpub and drinks a Bud Lite?
The service was great, we never had a single problem. The place was slammed both Friday and Saturday night, and not once did we feel like we weren't being attended to. We got to know the bartender(s) fairly well considering, and they made sure to hook us up (free glasses of SC, etc).
The food was good - standard pub fare. We had the nachos, and everything else the folks around us were ordering looked solid.
Growler fills are permitted (with the specific Foothills growler mind you, per NC state law) and are really well priced. We got a fill of their Hoppyum - $9 even for the fill and the growler.
Overall we really dug Foothills. If we head back next year or are ever passing through, we will certainly be looking forward to stopping in for a pint or two.

I was down for the Sexual Chocolate release this past weekend and spent an illogical amount of time in this place.
First thing, atmosphere, this place is huge. Seriously. An upstairs, a huge open floor plan with 4 tops everywhere with a private dining room in the corner, room surrounded by 6 top booths, the bar area was even more space, bar was long enough to seat dozens, more tables, more chairs, there wasn't much decoration with the exception of the posters with the beer logos on them. Looked pretty cool.
I had all the beers on draft over the course of several visits, all the beer is quite good. The owner told me that they end up selling a lot of Miller Lite. If I owned a place like that a bottle of Miller Lite would be 6$ to fuck over retards, oh well.
Service is the weak link here, I suppose they might have been exhausted from the release but I sat at the bar the next day in the afternoon for 15 minutes before someone said hello to me. Then it took 20 more minutes to order, and then 30 more minutes to get my check. I was pretty annoyed by the time I left.
Food was good though, I had a sandwich and some pretzels. I'd recommend the food in general. Nice menu, approachable.
Overall, I drank and ate there for a couple of hours for 25$. Not too bad for the amount of beer I put away. I'd go back.

I made the trek down to Foothills Brewing Company with a few friends this weekend for the 2011 Sexual Chocolate release. People were allowed to begin entering the brewery at approximately 8:00am, but the line of several hundred people took an inordinate amount of time to move inside, as there was but one individual at the door checking IDs and applying wristbands. I find this lack of foresight highly inefficient and particularly annoying, as I had been waiting outside for several hours in freezing weather.
The atmosphere inside is quite nice, with high ceilings, two levels, ample bar and table seating, and large windows. The vibe was good, and the staff was quite friendly, though they must have been exhausted.
The kitchen was pretty inconsistent. It took a few of my table mates nearly an hour to receive their lunch, despite ordering after peak hours. I, in turn, received my lunch in less than ten minutes of ordering. The kitchen staff burned a simple appetizer the night before, but the dish was promptly replaced.
It was a nice treat to enjoy some vintage drafts of Sexual Chocolate the night before the release. Also, it is extremely cool of Foothills to permit customers to bring in their own beers to this event, allowing for a huge tasting the night before and day of the event.
Overall, this is a quality establishment brewing quality beer. Recommended.

Stopped here for Olde Rabbits Foot day. Beers did not disappoint, and the locals were very kind to this cheesehead. Even allowed a tasting and locals and brewery people alike were into trading. In a nice part of town, and nice facility. Did I mention this was a friendly pub with good beer? Prices on some beers are a little high but sometimes you pay extra for quality. I also was able to try pretty much everything I wanted including Sexual Chocolate, and then at the end one man from the brewery gave me a bottle of the barrel aged edition. How awesome is that?
