I must say that I was quite impressed with Foothills. I only spent a couple days in Winston-Salem, after helping a friend move there. The brewery has only been open for about a year and a half, but it seems as though they have it figured out! The building is large, with very high ceilings, a large bar, and a balcony surrounding the inside with additional seating.
Nine beers were available during my visit, so I opted for the sampler (they withheld the Double IPA from the sampler). Eight beers came in 6-oz. glasses, at a cost of $8.95. Can't beat that! I found all the beers to be quite good for their respective styles, some of which I just don't like. My favorites were the IPA, the ESB, and the dunkel weizen. I think the IPA could have used a touch more hops, as it was a little difficult to distinguish from the Pale Ale. I came back the next day to try the Double IPA, which had a definite hop presence, with perhaps just a bit too much alcohol bite. It was very good, nonetheless.
As we were celebrating the move, we decided to indulge ourselves a bit on food. I chose the chef's cut, which turned out to be antelope filets rosemary cabernet sauce, with asparagus. Wow! Cooked to perfection and very tasty. My friend had a beef filet, which was slightly overcooked, but also very good. Fortunately berries were in season, so dessert was berries in whipped cream, which complemented the stout nicely.
We got there a little late and decided to see whether we could still sneak a tour in. Luckily, it wasn't too busy at that time, so we were given a tour of the brewing facilities by Sara (hopefully I'm remembering that correctly). It was short, but instructive, and very enjoyable.
In my two visits, I could find nothing wrong with Foothills. Hopefully I'll be back for a visit soon, and hopefully Foothills continues to excel!

I seriously cannot believe I have never reviewed foothills. This literally astounds me. I have been to this place countless times, most recently for all the SC releases and again today. Wonderful layout with a cool upstairs lounge area and many tables with a long bar down stairs. Fantastic food, seriously one of the best places you could ever eat and that is no joke. Great beer always on tap and one of the most friendly staffs you could ever ask to be around. Hands down one of the best breweries in the land. You cannot go wrong here.

Simply a great place to have a few beers and something to eat. Outstanding service, home made food and condiments, great selection of beers. The only reason quality isn't a 5 too, is that the beers are a little inconsistent. Some batches of say Jade are tremendous, other are just pretty good, The BA stuff is the same way, some are really boozy, others are great. Not really much on a knock I suppose, but I don't drive 160 miles round trip to many places, but for Foothills I do. Whitney is terrific, a well run establishment, and progressive with their offerings especially since picking up Cottonwood, and Carolina Brewing.. Could drop the Endo IPA though they have enough offerings under the Foothills label.

Stopped here for Olde Rabbits Foot day. Beers did not disappoint, and the locals were very kind to this cheesehead. Even allowed a tasting and locals and brewery people alike were into trading. In a nice part of town, and nice facility. Did I mention this was a friendly pub with good beer? Prices on some beers are a little high but sometimes you pay extra for quality. I also was able to try pretty much everything I wanted including Sexual Chocolate, and then at the end one man from the brewery gave me a bottle of the barrel aged edition. How awesome is that?

Visited for the second time. The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting even at 1pm on a Monday. The beer is always excellent and seems to be even better from the pub than at bars around Raleigh. The bartender was very friendly and more than happy to talk about the beer. The selection is good with 5 regular beers and at least 2 seasonals at all times. The food has been excellent both times as well. I must say, this is certainly the best brewpub I've been to before. I'm sure I'm not the only person who can't wait for them to bottle their beer.

Visited here on a brew quest into NC.
Atmosphere- Very nice, modern place. Very laid back vibe in the place, not too loud despite the people chattering around us.
Quality- Great beers. We were hoping to get their Sexual Chocolate, but we were late for it. Going back to get some when it comes out.
Service- Our bartender, Caleb, was super frienly, giving us samples and answering our questions. He even slid us a free round because of our interest in the beers (don't tell on him.)
Selection- Vast array of brew styles, and a diverse menu. Good selection of liquors from what I saw, but I didn't try any.
Food- I had a fish sandwich, which was amazing. Friends had a very good cheseburger and corn dogs with beer cheese. All of it was way better than expected for price.
Value- Great beer and food for about the same as what I would pay for good beer and mediocre food elewhere. I will definitely visit again.

I like many others got to enjoy this great brewpub on the Sexual Chocolate release day. It was one of the most fun beer related days I have had in my life (even though I spent 7 hours in a car that day).
A: Thank god for brewpubs that don't feel the need to be a sports bar. The lack of televisions was refreshing. The exposed brick walls, dark wood, and nice balcony gave the place a real cozy feel. On this day, I was happy with the low backed benches since it was a day for talking to fellow beer geeks, but in general I would prefer a bit more privacy in the main dining area.
Q: The beer and food quality were both top notch. The menu was not just your standard pub grub at all. The bathrooms were even amazingly clean for a beer related establishment. The only quality control thing I can ding them on is my burger being a little cold. With as crazy as this day was, I can give them a pass on that. Not too often do they have to deal with a restaurant full of people in the course of 30 minutes.
Serv: I can not believe they were able to handle this rush without much of a hit. I was a bit concerned about how they were rotating servers all around the room, but it is probably the only way they could manage this kind of a group of people. They pulled it off without any problems in service.
Sel: Excellent selection in food and beer. Yes they only had their beer, but with the wide range of styles there has to be something for everyone to enjoy. Its one of few brewpubs I have been to that I think my wife would actually enjoy going with me to.
Food: I tried a bite of my friends shrimp and grits and it was fantastic. I had the turkey burger and it was very good (just wish it had been warmer). The fries reminded me more of what you would get at a southern fish fry (that is a very good thing!). We both left very satisfied.
The cost of the beers were extremely reasonable. The food seemed to have some things that were a bit on the high end and some things that seemed inexpensive compared to similar establishments.
I hope I have a reason to return to Winston-Salem again besides just the Sexual Chocolate release days. It was a nice city, and I now know I will always have a go to establishment for food and drink.

Stopped in to Winston-Salem for a break from a road trip and was very happy I did. This place is large with a nice-looking wooden bar and lots of seating. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and after chatting with us awhile, snagged the brewer to come chat with us as well. He brought over a taste comparison of their double IPA with the bourbon-barrel aged version. Delicious!
The spicy ostrich burger was great and paired well with their hoppy beers. We filled up some growlers (to drink at the next pit stop) and hit the road happily. Highly recommended!

Visited here July 9 2010 with my wife.
First off, the atmosphere in this place was great. Quiet enough to have easy conversation but not so quiet as to make you feel uncomfortable talking. Very clean place overall and well lit as well. Outdoor seating also looked nice but we opted to stay indoors.
We ordered a sampler right off the bat which consisted of six 4 oz. beers for $8. We also chose to pay an extra dollar to include the seasonal esb. I was impressed by the beers, and even enjoyed the beers of styles I don't always care for. That being said, I think that they were pretty solidly brewed to style, although the pilsener was very unique and the IPA and IIPA were definitely more 'east coast'.
We also ate dinner there and the food was fantastic. There is a great variety of sandwiches and wraps along with other meal options. The southwest steak wrap that I got was great, as was my wife's chicken caeser. We also substituted onion rings instead of our sides after seeing some at a nearby table and I can honestly say they were the best onion rings I've ever had.
The service was also top notch and our waitress obviously knew and cared about the beer she was serving.
This was one of the best experiences I've had at a brewpub.

Stopped in here for the Baltic Porter release. Got in a little earlier than most, but what can you do right? This was my first visit to the brewpub, but had heard lots about it from others that I know who have visited. This location is very easy to spot coming up the street with the black and yellow umbrella covered tables out front with the big lettering confirming this fact. Parking in downtown W-S is kind of a pain but luckily there is a parking garage at a hotel just a few blocks up. The overall interior of this place is awesome. Wood everywhere with the brewing vats right at the back of the brewpub with nice large windows for viewing. Sat down at the bar and ordered a drink. They were in the process of cleaning the lines at the time so I had to wait for my brew that I wanted, which was no problem at all as I would prefer a clean line for my beer. While waiting the bartender brought me a water and two samples to try while I was waiting. As I was there by myself at the time the bartender hung out and chatted for a little while which was very nice. Ended up grabbing a bite to eat as well. The sandwich I got was quite awesome and really hit the spot. The release party was very organized and flowed amazingly well. I will definitely be going back to this location again in the future.
