Look: A Nice solid look, heavy on the head however, but with a nice cola coloring. A friend said it looked like a root beer.

Smell: Full bodied, with strong spiciness. A slight bit of hops, balanced nicely with the grain.

Taste: A nice start, with a deep rich taste. But it gives away quickly to be a watery finish. Nice start, average finish. The start makes it better than average.

Mouthfeel: Nice. Pops on the tongue, but it also fades away with the water.

Drinkability: This beer reminds me of a student who has great intelligence who sort of gives up early. So much potential here but the weak finish diminishes a really nice start.

Oh god, I don't know if my bottle was out of date or what. I could hardly drink this one, and couldn't even finish it I disliked it so much. Tasted like nasty nuts were cooked into the beer or something, and had a very metal like finish to it. Nearly no head, and barely carbonated at all.

Served in a shaker pint, part of my Arizona trip beers. Beer is brown, almost black with a thin tan head of small bubbles.

Aroma is roasty, almost like coffee.

Beer is medium to light in body, a little sweet, quite roasty, almost smoky in the back. An interesting beer for sure, I'd have it again.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, nuts, and a slight cocoa aroma. Taste is much the same with a slight tartness in the flavor. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a great smell but the taste isn't as good in my opinion.

this is a tasting of an older bottle. Beer poured into pint glass, color is light brown, head is very thin and dissipates quickly.

Smell is mild chocolate and toasty malts, mild nutty and toffee notes, not fresh but not too old.

Taste is a little sweet, light caramel and chocolate, strong bitter mouthfeel but not too much in the flavor in terms of hops, maybe some grassiness.

Mouthfeel is a little bitter, but not overly so, expected for this type of brew. Lingering sweetness helps to balance, but bitterness lingers on tongue.

Overall, this is a beer with good bones, maybe a bit above average for a brown ale; would like find it again some time in AZ.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a half inch of medium beige-hued froth.

Smell: Roasted malt fighting for attention with plump purple raisins of all things with slightly lesser notes chocolate, toast, etc.

Taste: Roasted malt with not too much sharpness to it from the assumed black patent, slight chocolate undertone with a charred nuttiness throughout. Faint, gotta-look-for-it caramel accent. Lightly sweet. Some dark fruitiness, though expanding as it warms to a full-blown moist raisin flavor. Spicy European hops with enough bitterness when aided by the roast and crisp carbonation. Slight addition of pepper throughout. Gently roasty, fruity finish with amply suds.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: A sufficient though not outstanding brown.

saw this beer in a local grocery store and figured i would give a try. Surprisingly a fairly well balanced beer! it's exactly what a nut brown ale is supposed to be. Color was dark with creamy head, had a nutty aroma, drank smooth and easy. Sat extremely well in my mouth and smell wasn't harsh at all, faint coffee hints. Definitely will drink this one again!

A: Poured a dark, nut colored brown with a solid pillowy head that lingered.
S: Smell was of roasted malt mostly with a hint of earth complimenting it.
T: The flavor i thought was fantastic, some roast but not a lot, with a strong chestnut flavor dominating afterward leading to a dry, almost grassy finish.
M: the feel was the least impressive part of this beer, just average for the style.
O: I would recommend this beer to anyone, and have to all who will listen, I thought it was the best brown I've tried, though I don't claim to be a connoisseur of the style.
