a nice brown/almost black pour with a perfect 2 fingers of foamy tan head and great lacing!
grassy hops up front, coffee, chocolate, toasted grains.
a subtle blend of chocolate, tobacco, coffee, and roasted grains.
medium body on the lighter side, nice amount of carbonation and a creamy finish.

this is a great stout and those who get this year round should feel lucky! luckily, we have river horse's oatmeal stout that's VERY similar to this from what i can remember, but unfortunately it's only a seasonal for us.

Taken from notes dated 5/30/13. Had the beer at the brewery, not the bistro...

Deep black color, thin tan head.

Classic roasted/charred grain aroma; hints of molasses.

Toasty, lightly burnt bread. Mellow sweetness & bitterness combo.

Medium-light; clean & dry.

Pleasurable if unremarkable. Didn't get the oatmeal smoothness so much; seemed more like a dry stout.

Enjoyed this beer on tap at Nimbus Brewery.

A: Pours a pitch black hue with a than head that leaves no trail down the slide of the glass and ends in a wispy lace.

S: Roasted malts with a strong coffee background.

T: Slightly astringent flavor with sweet roasted malts and coffee backbone.

M: Medium carbonation and medium body.

O: Decent stout – a little too astringent for me.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled in 11/2012. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal, cocoa, caramel, light coffee, floral, mint, and herbal earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with solid balance and complexity of roasted notes with a prominent amount of hops. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal, toast, caramel, light coffee, floral, mint, and herbal earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, oatmeal, caramel, light coffee, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with light-moderate hop presence; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice oatmeal stout. Well balance with nice flavor robustness and complexity; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottled October 2012. Served at around 45-50F.

Pours black with a two finger light brown head that leaves impressive sheets and drippy rings of lacing and holds a good cap.

Aroma is roasted malts, milk chocolate, a bit of coffee, touch of grassy hops. Good, but not great strength.

Nice flavor of roasted malts, milk chocolate, coffee, some caramel, dark bread, bit of hops, mild to moderate sweetness, mild bitterness, mild alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nice creamy Oatmeal Stout feel, moderate carbonation.

Very nice Oatmeal Stout. Everything one would want in the style, smooth, creamy, chocolaty. Good one.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, and cocoa. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but nothing too exciting for the style.

-Chocolatey brown, slim coffee with cream head, moderate fizz. Lovely to look at.

-Initial flavors of classic stout malt, bitterness, and alcohol, gradually turning into a more bready semi sweetness with a bit of an acid bite.

-Mouthfeel is too thin. Needs more velvet. This beer's carbonation is a bit distracting from the flavor as well

-Flavor could be more potent, especially for a stout. Main complaint is that the finish is quite weak and the flavor shiftings are a bit flaccid. Needs to grow a pair before it joins the ranks of the real stouts

-Goes down smooth for a stout, good for early morning beer drinking when you're too tired to handle a burlier beer. An excellent substitue/addition to any breakfast or pre-work pre-gaming!

-Overall, an okay stout for a reasonable price. Good for those beer drinkers who are not used to or don't like stouty stouts. In other words, it's a gateway stout.

A: Chocolate brown as it pours, Dark black with a nice tan head on top in the glass, that is very persistent.

S: Roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. The oatmeal comes through as well as a bit of bread, there is a slight earthiness to it. Nice.

T: A slight tartness hits the tongue first, but that is followed by chocolate, and slightly acidic dark roast coffee. The finish has a touch of sweetness.

M: Medium, carbonation is medium low and works for the brew. I wish there was a little more bite to the mouthfeel, a little more chewiness, or creaminess.

O: Overall a pretty good brew. Not a bad stout at all. Enjoyable.
