A - Orange body, slight haze, white cap has good retention and nice lacing.
S/T - Juicy, citrus and pine hops up front, backed up by a strong caramel malt backbone. Rye spiciness comes through and builds in the finish. Hops are a little weak for a DIPA, and an unpleasant diacetyl/butter taste emerges as it warms.
M - Full body, medium carbonation. Stays smooth with a spicy and bitter finish.
O - Seems ok as an Imperial Rye IPA. Butter taste was a little off-putting and hops could have been stronger to balance out the sweetness.

A: The beer pours a cloudy dark golden body with a thin white head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass as it fades.
S: TONS of piney and slight citrus hops on the nose. There is also a little bit of sweetness hidden in there too.
T: Like the smell, I am picking up a strong amount of hops and and sweet malt. The falvor changes from very hop heavy at first, but then it turns into a sweet malt flavor the longer it lingers.
M: There is a decent amount of carbonation with a strong amount of crispness on the tip of the tongue and the back of the throat.
O: This is a pretty solid beer and for only a dollar a bottle, the price can not be beat. I would for sure come back to this beer again.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a CCB pint glass.
A: Pours a nice medium gold, good amount of visible carbonation, and a huge, three-finger white foamy head that lingers.
S: Bready rye, citrus & grapefruit hops. But overall not a huge aroma.
T: Follows the nose, but certainly bigger flavors than the aroma would imply. Citrus hops, bready malts, almost a caraway taste in the background, plus pine & pith hop bitterness. Dry, bitter hoppy in the hang.
M: Medium body, minimal alcohol presence, tons of carbonation sensation.
O: This is pretty solid, and a good first offering I've had from this brewery. The bitterness level was high, but stopped just short of off-putting for me. I'll drink more of this one.

Bought a 4 pack at Round Rock Specs.
This one poured a cloudy dark golden orange with a thin white head that left a ton of lacing in my 512 IPA glass...very impressive.
A good combo of piney hops and slight tangerine mixed with carmel malt...maybe some spice from the rye too. Really fresh.
Good bitter hop punch on first sip that turns into a sweet malt. The rye is there, just not as pronounced as it is in Hop Rod Rye. Medium carbonation and a smooth finish. Hides the booze well.
I really like this one. Very nice surprise from Lazy Magnolia. This is a pretty flavorful DIPA with a good combo of hops and malt. I'll certainly get it again.

Straight pour from a 12oz pry-off bottle to my 25cl Duvel Single tulip; freshness date of March 1, 2013 printed in black ink on the side of the bottle in a little box next to the barcode (“03 01 13”). After e-mailing Lazy Magnolia, I was told they have a 120 freshness period, so I take that to mean that this was bottled on November 1 or so, making this about ALMOST seven weeks old on the date of consumption.
Appearance (4.0): This pours about two solid fingers of light tan-colored, coarse-bubbled head, sitting atop a rich orange-amber body, lightly hazy but not cloudy. It’s got almost deep pink hues to it—that’s how vibrant the deep orange color looks. Moderate retention leaves a thick ring of foam on the surface of the beer after a while, and it leaves a few thick legs of lace here and there as it recedes.
Smell (4.5): Blood oranges. No shit, it has a deeply sweet but acidic citrus tones that smell like blood orange juice and candied red grapefruit. Some malty caramel tones mix with that sweaty hop sweetness, and a bit of rye spiciness adds another dimension to the body. This has a surprisingly complex smell to it, and I like it.
Taste (4.0): Compared the nose, the hops mostly contribute a mildly astringent but solidly bitter citrus peel kind of pithy bite, which is strong enough to stand up to the more pronounced rye character in the malt body—peppery and bready, with a light caramel tone, the rye has a really full character here. There’s some more of that sweet citrus and sweaty hop flavor from the nose, but it’s in the back, behind the pithy hop bite and rye spice. This is nice—not hitting it out of the park, but just as complex as much going on as in the nose. The only hint of booze is the slightly gaseous feeling in the finish, which is dominated by that crisp, bitter, citrus rind flavor.
Mouthfeel (4.0): On the full- side of medium-bodied, mildly viscous with enough alcohol and hop oil character to dry it out on the finish—leaving it quite dry, really. The carbonation is smooth but assertive, tingling all over and foaming fully but smoothly on the way down. Drinks too easily for a 9% ABV beer—but who complains about that? Yowza.
Overall (4.5): This is a pretty decent DIPA, and a really solid rye beer. The hops aren’t overly complex or aggressive or revelatory for that matter, but they’re full-bodied and well-placed as a complement to the rye malt character of the beer. This is well put-together, as it really melds everything going on nicely without being all over the place or too much of any one thing. Definitely worth seeking out, especially if you like rye malt.

A - pours an opaque hazed golden orange with a nice finger of off white head with fantastic lacing and very good retention.
S - tons of grapefruit and orange citrusy aromas, spicy rye, earthy hop undertones.
T - a nice citrusy flavor quickly becomes dominated by a hefty rye punch and a strong earthy hop bitterness that lingers through the (slightly sweet and malty) finish and aftertaste. Dry spicy bitter finish. Very good
M - medium bodied, appropriate carbonation. Crisp and drinkable.
O - if grapefruit, rye spice, and dry earthy bitterness sound good to you then give this a shot. Will buy again

Pours a light amber color in Timber Beast goblet. One fingered white head with good retention and lots of lacing.
Smell is citrusy and floral. Very inviting.
Taste follows smell. Lots of citrus (grapefruit) and a bit of honey. Great bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied. Good carbonation.
Overall this is a homerun for Lazy Magnolia! This has become one of my all time favorites and definitely my favorite from Lazy Mag. I love it so much, I bought a signature glass to drink it in. I look forward to seeing what LM has in store from here on out, now that their hands arent tied by our previous archaic laws in Mississippi.

Ale poured huge 3 finger head (maybe I poured too fast), wonderful rye aroma with some hops. Delicious rye and citrus flavor, excellent balance. Finishes hoppy with little to no alcohol in flavor but I'm having trouble typing this review. Wow I can't say I've had an Imperial rye before but this is great. Best beer I've had from Lazy Magnolia by far.

Per the bottle: Timber Beast is the first in Lazy Magnolia's Back Porch Series. A spicy, full-bodied Imperial Rye Pale Ale balanced with generous dose of Zythos hops. Retreat to the Back Porch and be a little lazy. Big Cheers Y'all.
After a long delay to north Mississippi, the Beast has landed in Oxfordtown. An exciting day for BAs in Mississippi and a long awaited treat. 12oz bottle poured into a Fantome tulip (still waiting on the Timber Beast goblets to arrive).
A: Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a medium off white head that lingers for a surprisingly long time. Minimal lacing as it settles, resting to a thin film and sticky ring.
S: The aroma is somewhat subdued, yet still maintains a good bit of complexity. Smells very sweet, with tangerine, apricot, pineapple, and caramel at the fore, with some grapefruit, spiciness, and grass in the background. I'm hopeful with this one, as the rye seems to be incorporated seamlessly. A little sweeter than expected, but its fresh and inviting. Just a hint of alcohol when the nose is plunged into the glass.
T: Very similar to the aroma, the taste starts off sweet, though less sweet than the smell. Tangerine and apricot up front, transitioning to mild bitterness from the hoppy grapefruitiness. The rye malt spiciness starts of mild at the finish and grows and lingers long after each sip. Really nice complexity and balance that has yet to seen from a beer in Mississippi. Just a hint of booze on the finish, but at 9%, that's to be expected. It provides a complementary warming sensation with the rye that is very pleasant.
M: Medium full-bodied with a medium to low amount of carbonation that tingles but doesn't prickle. Sits well on the palate and subtly coats the tongue and cheeks. Again, starts out sweeter and then ends hoppy and spicy, creating quite the drying effect that begs for another sip.
D: Just after pouring, this started out a bit bitter for my taste. After allowing it to warm a bit, it really balanced out and became a fantastic IIPA. Well balanced, complex, inciting, and surprising. Alcohol is hidden well enough to make this a dangerous little beer. This is one that I would gladly go back to again and again. I bought a case and will savor each one.
Great effort Lazy Magnolia. I've enjoyed some of your cask IPAs in the past and am glad to finally have the opportunity to buy something that has obviously been in the works for a while.

12 oz bottle into nonic
A: dark honey golden, large carbonation bubbles, slightly offwhite head, moderate globby lacing
S: sharp apricot, sweet mint, a bit of apple-like sweetness...missing the rye that is supposed to be in here
T: bitter orange zest, apricot, crackery malt, bitter twang...not as much dark rye flavor as I'd expected.
M: moderate body with a medium dry finish, nice fuzzy carbonation feel
O: This is a fine beer thought I wish they rye in the grain bill came forward to lend more dark, sharp earthy bitterness.

From an unlabeled bottle into a pilsner flute. Pours a murky golden copper, large white bubbles in the head. Smells of faint honey and grapefruit rind. Taste is muskmelon, grapefruit pith, iced coffee on the back end. Mouthfeel is thick enough to carry the residual sugars and hop bitters, carbonation pricks intermittently inbetween the regular smooth medium carb. Not a bad IIPA, not something to drink in the heat, but certainly worthy according to this northwestern transplant.

12 oz bottle pours a medium amber with great head and lacing. Can really detect the sharp rye in the nose, with fruity citrus. Taste is resinous fruity hops dominated pine, grapefruit, and apricot with spicy rye notes. Nice dry finish offsets the malty sweetness. Overall this is a nicely balanced deep south hop bomb - certainly surprising to see something like this coming out of Mississippi.

Served chilled into a fluted tulip.
Pours a nice copper color with an inch to two inches of light white head, even with a gentle pour. Head very slowly recedes and leaves a thick surface layer with heavy lacing.
Aromas of pine resin, citrus and as it warmed I caught a hint of guava.
Flavors of pine and bitter citrus peel and a slighlt mineral background.
Medium to heavy mouthfeel with a medium body and and moderate carbonation with a lingering aftertaste.
I really liked this beer. I normally prefer a more citrusy IPA, but this was delicious. Strong, but well balanced flavors.

A-Deep orange pour that settles to a paler yellow at the bottom. Bits floating around at the bottom. A huge orangish-white head that retains nicely as I drink. Foam coats entire glass as I drink.
S-Huge piney nose. Citrusy esters with a hoppy bite. Not too complex
T-Follows the nose mostly. Piney and citrusy fruits at the front precede a malty, sweet finish. Very nicely layered taste. The bitter fruits are complimented nicely by the caramel sweetness
MF-Crisp and lightly carbonated. Pretty typical of an imperial IPA.
O-I'm not a huge fan of the style, but this is an exceptional beer. It gets better and better with every sip. The warmth really exposes how nicely layered this beer is. It's 9% ABV, but I do not get any alcoholic taste at all. Very impressed.

Yummy. Created by Lazy Magnolia in honor of the Timber Beast, all the officers of Raise Your Pints Mississippi (RYP), and each member of RYP. Lazy Magnolia brewed a fantastic beer. The appearance has a little orange color, very nice and clear. The nose is nice. It doesn't smell like a big beer in my opinion. The taste is AWESOME. Very easy to drink for a 9%. Lovely. This beer sits on your tongue beautifully with lots of malt and hops. Balanced... A balanced big beer. Lazy Magnolia Timber Beast is awesome.

Drinking Date: 8/5/12
Glassware: Tulip
Appearance: Burnt-orange hue with fluffy white head. Good retention and some thick, sporadic lacing.
Smell: citrusy; earthy. not overpowering or super piney like lots hop-centric beers, just crisp, refreshing with a little zest.
Taste: Intense, bitter hop flavor right up front; mellows for a bit, then ends with another rush of earthy bitterness. Good hop flavor but I don't taste the rye. Alcohol is completely hidden so watch out!
Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, a little dry and sticky
Overall: I liked it. Will purchase again. A strong hoppy beer with good flavor, though not complex. Still, I can taste the effort and care, so cheers for our Lazy Mag!

I’ve had this on tap and from the bottle. Both were incredibly fresh offerings (the draft was on July 1st, 2012 - the first day it was legal).
From the bottle there is a huge head that’s retained for some time. Nice coppery color. Citrus notes in the aroma and flavor. It has a very full feel in the mouth and is nice and spicy.
The alcohol is completely masked in this beer which can be problematic because it is very easy to drink. Easily one of the best IPAs I've had and a great first "high gravity" brew for Lazy Mag and the state of Mississippi.

Poured into glass, with huge head and cloudy appearance.
Fruity and hoppy smell, pleasant and not overly strong.
Taste was pleasant with a bit of hoppy aftertaste that disappeared quickly. The flavors that others have aptly described are very present.
Overall a nice beer and a great addtition to the Lazy Magnolia stable.

A: Very cloudy, almost murky looking. A darker amber color. Has a very smooth, fine looking head. The lacing is downright pretty.
S: Definitely some floral, piney hop smell but I also get caramel and faint spicy rye at the end. Almost no malt smell at all. Really nice. The way that I like my IPA's to smell.
T: Not as much rye as I was expecting at first. It has got some really delicious piney hops that end in sweetness. The rye spice lingers on the tongue and gives it some strong final bitterness. Can't taste that 9.0% at all.
M: Very carbonated, very dry. It has a good amount of body, but its diminished by the intense carbonation. I think the carbonation lends itself to the rye spiciness.
O: I rather like it, I think! The sweet, piney hops and the finishing rye spice play well together. Easy drinking and pleasant all the way through.
