Review from notes, bottle thanks to Hotmetal1.

This beer has a nice look and feel to it; glowing orange body with light haze; decent cap of cream colored foam with solid retention and lacing. Medium bodied with smooth but active carbonation and an appealing creaminess. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, citrus hops, pine, and muted spice. The flavor has a faint hit of the spiciness of the rye, but it plays a pretty minimal part in the overall taste; the sweetness of the malt and the moderately bitter, citrusy orange hops keep it suppressed until the finish. Additionally there is a not-especially tasty perfumed aspect to the hops not detected very much in the aroma. The finish is somewhat sticky and the aftertaste is average in terms of length and bitterness for a DIPA.

This beer was a bit mediocre for me; not bad, but in no way a standout in this crowded field. It was a little too sweet and the hop combination was both a little odd and a little lackluster. Additionally, a bigger overall hop presence would have gone a long way towards cutting through all that sweet maltiness and provided the counter-balance of elements I was looking for. Would have liked the rye to have more prominence as well.

To my knowledge this is my first beer tried from the state of Mississippi.Poured into an oversized wine glass a slight hazed burnt orange infused deep golden with a half finger slightly off white head,I like the color it just looks like a big hop monster.Aromas of citric and tropical fruit-like hops along with big alcohol sweetness and caramel malts, the hops win out but you know it's a brash beer.Sweet caramel and alcohol notes are the first thing I notice, the caramel doughy flavors are big, there is a hefty dose of citrusy tropical fruity hops wich is nice, not bitter at all.Not as sweet as most of the style but it's got some sweetness,a couple of these and you feel it.Better than expected to be honest, well done.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass.

A- Pours a medium copper color with a 1/2 inch head that retains a bit before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind on the glass.

S- Sharp hop aroma with a bit of alcohol fume and a touch of rye. Strong, almost astringent.

T- Decent bitterness is medium-high and doesn't linger too long. It's more earthy and piney than citrusy. I don't really get much rye but it's there. Decently balanced with the alcohol not showing itself too much.

M- Bitey from the hops and booze with medium carbonation and a body that's just under medium.

O- Pretty drinkable, but I was hoping for more rye.

From an unlabeled bottle into a pilsner flute. Pours a murky golden copper, large white bubbles in the head. Smells of faint honey and grapefruit rind. Taste is muskmelon, grapefruit pith, iced coffee on the back end. Mouthfeel is thick enough to carry the residual sugars and hop bitters, carbonation pricks intermittently inbetween the regular smooth medium carb. Not a bad IIPA, not something to drink in the heat, but certainly worthy according to this northwestern transplant.
