American Pale Wheat Ale |  4.68% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (92), on-tap (15), cask (2), growler (1)

Notes:
Indian Summer is a light profile American-style wheat ale spiced with Orange Peel and Coriander. Our recipe uses a mix of wheat and pale barley. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the spices to shine through. Clean fermenting yeast produce a very dry, crisp base to further accentuate the spices. The aroma has a distinct citrus note without being overly fruity.

A: A deep golden color with a very thin head that falls quickly, leaving no lace and hardly any retention over the top.

S: Aromatic profile is very light. A pleasant twinge of spice and sweetness, along with a slightly floral component with a dry malt undercurrent. Nuanced and enjoyable.

T&M: Flavor is very nice, with a light, crisp fruit flavor with some latent spice and zippy hop flavor. Gets light on the finish, but still with a reprise of fruity flavor. The yeast strain and spices seem to be the saving grace of the flavor. Body is light with a zesty carbonation level, though the bubbly could stand to be a touch more intense given the spiced flavors.

D: Very drinkable, a solid little wheat ale. Glad Lazy Mag has started bottling more than just the Southern Pecan.

12 ounce bottle -> World Market Wheat Beer Glass

This beer pours up a hazy pale gold with a small head, no retention, and no lacing. Smell is citrus, not bad, and maybe the strongest feature of this offering. Taste is very weak with notes of tangy orange and spicy coriander. A little aspiriny taste is there too. Mouthfeel is thin. This one is okay, but nowhere near being my favorite. But it beats the hell out of the Shocktop equivalent.

The second of two Lazy Magnolia beers I procured while visiting family in Meridian, Mississippi over the long holiday weekend. I still don't love it, but the Southern Pecan has grown on me. this one pours a light golden color with little head or lace but isn't sickly pale like some wheat beers. Nose is heavy on the citrus and wheat and coriander, but is pleasant enough.

This beer is, like most deep southern beers, a slightly simplified version of the style. I like the yeast and wheat melange with a touch of citrus at first but eventually it bores me. I do imagine it would be refreshing in warmer weather. The texture is okay at first but finishes dry and a touch chalky. A little sourness in the aftertaste isn't too encouraging either. Not worth driving eleven hours for.

App- Very light yellows mixed with goldenrod. Beer is slightly hazed and only had a small 1/4" white fast receding head. Little bit of bubble coming up. No cling or lace.

Smell- A bit overdone on the coriander. A bit heavy but still works in relation to the wheat and citrus notes. A bit lite and crisp on the nose with touches of grass.

Taste- The nose gives way a little to a crisp beer with very limited wow factor but goes for refeshing and brite. A good balance of citrus zest, peppery malts and coriander spice. A bit buttery creamy but hits the spot in 90 degree heat.

Mouth- Its a semi light body with a medium carbonation and what I would say is a flavor similar to a thicker flat 7up.

Drink- It was semi tasty. A little heavy handed at times, but then with 90+ degree heat was fine.
