The Half Way Inn is definitely not a beer bar, but I don't think it pretends to be. It does still have a decent selection of taps and bottles and also has a cozy atmosphere where one can enjoy a good beer and what looked like good food (didn't try it, but plenty of people were eating it).
I don't know if I'd go out of my way to go to this place, but it was right on the walk back to our hotel in Gamla Stan and was perfect for that. The prices were noticably cheaper than other similar bars and I liked the atmosphere quite a bit - a lot like an old English pub.
Overall, probably worth stopping at if you get the chance and it's only about 5-10 min. walk from Oliver Twist/Akkurat so it's not a huge investment of your time or money.

First view presents half way in as a perhaps slobby place, but this is not true. In the summers there are about fifty chairs crowded outside and an open door letting out some english or irish folkmusic.
Once inside you are presented with a crowded room with two sections: eaters and noneaters. A really nice atmosphere since this is almost always a crowded place with a bit of the older audience.
Certainly this is not a palce to sit and sip at some belgian trappist brew but rather womewhere to get rather cheap food and a nice pint of beer. They have some standard beers on tap and a quite broad variety of mainly english bottles. Not to much, not to little either.
All in all a nice bar that has been the same since it opened, familiar, pleasant and genuine.
