At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy pale golden colour. Pleasant and fresh aroma of American (and New Zealand?) hops. The flavour has also notes of American hops, but not too much. Fruity, light bodied and extremely refreshing. The ultimate summer beer.

Oppigårds Pale Summer Ale, ABV: 5.0%.
500 ml bottle, 25.50 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: Clear, golden, almost copper-coloured liquid, and a sturdy, off-white, beige head. Lots of lacing occurs.

S: Beautiful, powerful, fruity aromas of American hops. The nose gets a bittersweet mix of pineapple, oranges, citruspeels, oriental spices and pine needles.

T: Hops balanced with a tiny sweetness, and the great, spicy and zesty, fruit salad from the nose is still here. To that adds some darker, grainy bread. Rather complex on the tongue.

M: Medium, but quite stable body - bitterness is a bit higher. This combo makes a nice, drinkable beer for me. Afterwards it leaves a pleasant, hoppy feeling in the mouth.

O: Oppigårds has done it again: A nice, complex, but easily drinkable, hoppy, and fruity pale ale. The best beer so far this summer - not a drink for the beach, I'll admit - but I could enjoy this several months into the autumn.

A: This one pours clear copper with a tall tan airy head that sinks to great lacings.

S: Sweet slightly roasted malt balanced with American, both bitter and floral; citric and piney. Peaches, grapefruit.

T: Bitter hops and floral; pine, pineapple, grapefruit and lemon sezt. Roasted sweet malt, caramell.

M: Long bitter/dry aftertaste. Body is medium and carbonation is low, the liquid is very smooth.

O: Yet another nice APA from Oppigårds, well crafted.

Thee clear liquid is copper, the high head beige and compact. Massive amounts of lacing occurs when it slowly sinks down.

The smell is strong and smooth at the same time. Some phenol hints of wood and paint. Lots of American hops: Citric fruits, flowers, resin and plums. Roasted hints in the malt sweetness. Alcohol in the background.

The taste is bitter and robust. American hops, some rye bread, yeast and wood. The flavours become a bit heavy at times. Roasted dry notes. Some wood and alcohol. The aftertaste is a bit dry with citric hops, quite a lot of alcohol and sour fruits.

The carbonation is mild, the small bubbles smooth. The liquid is a bit thick.

A bit too heavy and clumsy, I think.

The beer is clear golden with hints of copper, an off-white head leaving lots of lacing.

The smell is sweet, citric and floral, mango, lemon peel, grass, pine resin.

Starts with a toffee sweetness and fresh bread maltiness, grape-fruit and lime, a good balanced bitterness.

A light carbonation, smooth and pleasant feel, a good body, a good long dry finish.

Oppigård ales are always enjoyable. This one was even better than the tap version actually.

Had this poured from a 50cl bottle into a mug. It poured a color I would call caramel straw and had only a little head.

Definitely picked up on stringent hops off the nose - but not much else.

The 1st sip made me write "Hop Bomb" - but in all the right ways! Aggressive hopping in Swedish beers still catches me off guard, but this was done very well. The grape-fruity citrus hops were well balanced with the body and the crisp carbonation. It left a typical wash of bitterness on the back of the tongue but in the most pleasant and clean way. An excellent summer beer - really amazing!

According to my friends in Sweden, this beer is only offered for around 2 months every year - starting on May 15th. I was lucky enough to grab a bottle and will definitely be going back to the Systembolaget for more before it is gone!
