Bottle out of the cellar...shared with a huge hag.
A - Pours a dark brown/black, light tan-colored head.
S - Classic Narke Stormaktsporter base with a mix of smoke and oak. There's a lot more smoke then I thought there would be, but it work. Chocolate, oak, smoke, roast, and toffee. Really good stuff.
T - The oak is easily detectable, but not overpowering. Roast, chocolate, oak, toffee, and light expresso. Basically Stormaktsporter mixed with a dose of smoke and oak. The smoke is not on the level of the Rausch Kaggen!, but it's there for sure.
M - Medium to full, soft and creamy finish, so good.
O - I am a huge fan of this beer. Better then the Cognac but not quite as good as the Kaggen!. Somewhere in the middle of all that awesomeness. Want more...plz thx!

Bottle shared by Sean - wow! 2009 vintage. Macrök 1+2. Served in a Närke snifter.
A - A thin tan foam settles to a thin collar, leaving behind a few spots of lace. Black body, with a glass-coating brown film that clings to the sides of the glass. Looks stronger than 9.5%.
S - Very smokey and meaty, with lots of oak presence, some char, anise, with a bit of the distinctive Scandinavian dried berry fruitiness on the back end. Base beer imparts fudge and dark chocolate, but oak character is fairly intense.
T - Again, quite oak-forward, but thankfully not in the dry and sharp way. The wood and vanilla notes integrate well with the roasted malts, chocolate, and light smoked meat flavors that crop up mid-palate.
M - Smooth, medium body, no alcohol presence, lightly tannic finish that surprises considering the intensity of the oak flavors. Medium-low carbonation.
D - This is quite good, and certainly a superior beer. However, it's near the lower end of the Stormaktsporter spectrum and I'd probably reach for one of the earlier Kaggen vintages ('06-'07) or Konjaks! over this if I was sitting at Akkurat. Still, I'm greatly appreciative to Sean for the opportunity to try this, and I'd have it again at the drop of a hat.
