Notes taken from 9/29 from the craziest bottle share that i have ever been a part of. Thanks so much to the NYC and Hoboken crew for letting me participate in this incredible day of drinking long time wants and insanity.

Thanks kindly to Dan for sharing...although this one may have been opened during blackout land. fortunately enough, i decided to record my thoughts into an audio recorder...this is the best interpretation of those notes that i could do (i've eliminated lots of the drunken ramblings that were also mixed in during the recording of this review).

Stormaktsporter...little discussion on how to pronounce it and the laws about this beer. look is engine black. opened side-by-side with rare and looked identical. black and shiny just like rare. little bit oxidized. smells like a really well made RIS with some oxidation. the flavor is spot on though...the oxidation is gone from the taste. held up really well for a 4 yr old stout. good roast and malt balanced with some chocolate. it is everything you'd expect from a stout. roasted, but not coffee...lot's of chocolate and roasted malt. not as good as rare, but really close. smooth, easy drinking. great shine.

Served alongside Kaggen! Stormakstporter and Stormakstporter.

The beer is near black with a small tan head. The aroma brings roast, oak, distant cognac. Cognac emerges much more in the flavor. Burned roast, oak barrels, cognac. Lingering spice and cognac. Complexities emerge more late palate than in the aroma or initial taste. A fine beer.

A big thank you, Brad!

What a crazy beer. The nose and taste are so complex and all over the place. Roast and smoke, sweet cognac in the taste (not as much in the nose), big bitter barley bite, loads of rich dark chocolate, hints of soy, soft tobacco, ash. Pungent, rich and delicious! Smooth mouthfeel, and overall a great an unusual experience. Perhaps my only gripe is the huge bitterness in the finish.

Pour is dark brown, almost black, with huge bubbles an small tin ring. The nose has some roaste malts, light smoke and peat with sweet cognac and light alcohol tinge. Taste is less barrel, a little muted, roasted malts and light chocolate with some faint sweetness and light heat in back. Body is full and soft with a nice carbonation and semi dry finish.

On tap at Borfets 2012.

So excited to try this one and it did not disappoint.

Jet black color. Thin fluffy head. Quite viscus. Great legs and head retention.

Silky smooth mouthfeel. wow. Completely over the top for the ABV.

The Cognac was very present in the nose but not as much in the flavor.

Chocolate and dark fruit came forward as I sipped this.

I have never tried any of the other verisons of this beer or the base beer. This was freaking great stuff. Highly reccomended.

Random whale tick at the 187.

It was dark while drinking this outside but I'm gonna go ahead and assume it was a dark rich brown color. Tiny brown head.

Smell revealed some smoke, dark chocolate, cold coffee, soft cognac, caramel and toffee.

Taste didn't have anything too over the top coming from the barrel and I think the treatment complimented the beer well. A good kick of smoke coats your tastebuds initially. Soft cognac, semi-sweet chocolate and coffee rounds out the flavor. Mouthfeel felt a little too thin.

A: Deep, dark, pitch-black like the dead of night. A few residual bubbles on vigorous pour. Looks thick.

S: Cognac mostly, but notes of roasted malted, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and toffee. Bold - I like it.

T: Holy cognac! They weren't kidding with this beer aging on cognac and oak casks for 10 months. Smooth, deep, and quite complex. Along with the cognac there is a nice oak, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and caramelized brown sugar balance here. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit, and toffee finish this one off. The cognac is very warming and adds a unique character to this beer, but it is a touch too sweet for my liking.

M: Full bodied with almost zero carbonation. Thick, smooth, rich, and coating - just like a RIS should be.

O: Solid execution on a good beer. I think it could age a bit longer to mellow out the cognac/oak, but then again based on my discussion with the bartender at Akkurat, they can't keep these around long enough to age them. I really enjoyed this as it warmed though because the sweetness faded.

Served on-tap at the Avenue Pub

Appears pitch black with an offwhite head that quickly fades some light very sticky lacing as this one was slowly sipped.

Smell is roasted nuts and dark chocolate, with some vanilla and slight hints of tobacco and leather from the barrel aging. vanilla and sweet cognac notes intensified as it warmed but it retained a rich roasted malt character throughout. A lot happening in the nose with this one.

Taste started out with dark chocolate, just slightly bitter. Big roasted malt flavor drying the mouth the way a dark roast or French roast coffee does. Not much in the way of hop presence just enough to keep the chocolate and dark roast maltiness from being cloying sweet. The finish is slightly sweet and incredibly long.

Mouthfeel is exceptionally rich, full and supple. There is an oily viscosity that fits well with the strong yet subtly complex flavor profile of this beer.

Drinkability - this one is definitely a sipper and letting the 4 ounce snifter warm was worth the patience. The 9% ABV is well concealed despite the cognac notes in this beer and I would slowly savor another glass in an instant if I could get it again.

Glad I got the chance to try such a rarity on draft. Big thanks to Polly at the Avenue Pub and Stene from Akkurat for making the New Orleans Swedish event happen.

Bottle from my cellar split with good friends. Served in an appropriate Narke tulip along side a 2007 Stormsaksporter and 2008 Kaggen! Stormaksporter...for comparison's sake.

A - Looks like Kaggen!...black, oily, viscous, light tan head, thin collar, light lacing, wisps on top.

S - Smooth booze, light smoke, some char, caramel, chocolate brownies, roasty malts, and oak. Well balanced sweetness and booze...exactly what I expect from Narke. Nothing but the best.

T - The cognac is a little more pronounced on the palate then the nose. Char and smoke are less, excellent chocolate, wood, and caramel notes round things out. Nice dark chocolate boozy finish.

M - Full, light carbonation, oily creamy finish.

O - Just as expected, simply excellent. I think this one is drinking nicely and the cognac notes are not too hot yet still there without a doubt. Wish I had another one, but alas, this is a very rare tick. A must-try if you ever get the chance.

Review #2000. Huge thanks to Sean for sharing this rarity. Served in a Cantillon tulip.

A - A half-finger of dark tan foam settles to a thin collar, some wispy patches, and spotty lace. Body is midnight black.

S - The smell is a wonderful blend of cognac, smoke, oak, chocolate fudge, marshmallow, and vanilla. Initially it is very sweet and rich, but as the beer warms up the intensity of the oak and char increases.

T - The taste is also excellent, but dials down the cognac flavor I enjoyed so much in the aroma. There's a higher ratio of smoke, heavily roasted malts, oak, and dark chocolate mid-palate before yielding to the vinous and sweet spirit finish.

M - The body is on the medium side of medium-full, but the heft matches the 9.5% ABV fairly well. While the cognac barrel-aging impart a bit of alcohol not found in the regular Kaggen!, this still has very little alcohol warmth to it. There's some tannic dryness from the barrel, but this is fairly sticky and viscous. Carbonation is at a pleasant lower level.

D - It's hard to evaluate whether this is an improvement on Kaggen!, as each vintage is already pretty unique due to the ever-changing barrel varieties. I like cognac beers quite a bit, so this is a hit for me, but I can imagine others preferring stronger whiskey flavors. Definitely worth seeking out, but I think I may have had unrealistic expectations.

Served from a 25cl bottle into Akkurat stemware at Akkurat in Stockholm, Sweden. The bottling date was March 2010; I had it in July 2011. Reviewed from extensive notes.

A: Pours a one finger head of lovely ruby-brown colour - a bit less ruby than the Kaggen!. Wonderful cream and thickness. Bad retention, even for the high ABV. Colour is a solid nontransparent dark black.

Sm: Cognac, chocolate, toffee, extremely light coffee, light vanilla, and cream. A mild strength aroma, but a nice one.

T: Cognac, wood (especially on the open), chocolate and toffee from the midpoint through the climax, and coffee from the climax through the finish. Some light roast is present intermittently. The cognac does come through nicely, but it doesn't quite match the beer perfectly. It's complex and wonderfully built all around. Brilliantly balanced.

Mf: It's too heavy and thick. Where is the fragile subtlety of the Kaggen!? It's still soft, amazingly smooth, wet and well executed, but the heaviness is what brings it below the Kaggen!. Also, there's a lumpy note at the end of the first act that I don't like. The mouthfeel complements the flavours for the most part.

Dr: No alcohol comes through at all. It's very drinkable, has a very high price, and is very high quality. I won't have it again, but that's more because of my wallet than the beer's undeniable quality.

Bottle had at Akkurat on 8 June 2011.

A - Black as black can be with a big mocha head that dissipated slowly. Thick legs.

S - A blast of fruit and chocolate. The Cognac definitely dominates the nose here but there is some nice roasty chocolate and vanilla along for the ride.

T - Sweet heavenly sweetness. If you want a sweet RIS, this is it. Fortunately for me, I love that sweetness. There's a blast of chocolate, caramel and fig, then a slow coffee bitter finish.

M - Thick, full-bodied and fantastically carbonated. however, you can really taste the alcohol in this beer.

O - Incredible beer. not as complex as Kaggen!, but it's relatively fresh. This is just exactly what I want in a sweet RIS and the beer did the trick. i'd love to try this again in a year or two, just to see if it develops a bit more complexity and balance. Worth going out of your way to Stockholm for.

A: Dark as night with a small, brown, head and some lacing.

Sl: Alcohol, Cognac, Roasted malts, Vanilla.

T: Cognac, Alcohol, Roasted malts, Caramel, Chocolate, Vanilla and some wood.

M: Nice, smooth and elegant. Not as filling and creamy as the normal kaggen! but still top notch. Let this one warm up _alot_ as it was very boozish when it was colder.

Another fine brew from the "hippies" at Närke that makes me wish that i could get my hands on their brews outside the pubs. If you're anywhere close to Akkurat, give this beer a try. You won't regret it! HG, Berith and Christoffer, you guys rock!
