Poured feom the bottle vigorously into a goblet.

A- poured an opaque, jet black with a tan foamy head. Great retention and some of the most amazing lacing I've ever seen in a porter, hugging all sides of the glass with an extravagant display.

S- smells of sweet serendipity! Reminds me of funny cake almost...If you Pennsylvania Dutch-German background folks know what I'm talking about...like a chocolate aroma with an ever so slight coffee smell.

T- tastes of slight diacetyl, but not over the top. Some sweet toffee/caramel flavors. Perhaps an ever so slight pumpernickel? Pretty awesome brew overall!

M- very slick on the tongue. Almost buttery but not over the top. Quite drinkable at 5.5% and does not tarnish the palete.

O- a historic brew! One of the first original style porters I've had and one that will always be near and dear to me. This is the brew you should introduce yourself with when trying a porter for the first time.

I was surprised to see this in my Neighborhood Liquor Store™, so of course I had to bite the bullet. 11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass, 2010 vintage.

A: Pours a dark ruby color. It appears pitch black from a glance, however it shows ruby-red edges when held up to a good light. The head is a two finger light mocha shade. It doesn't retain itself well, unfortunately, but manages to leave behind good lacing.

S: Rich as hell, yet also quite sweet. Aside from mild (and expected) oxidation, there are also strong notes of dark fruits, along with a good helping of cocoa powder. It does a good job of coming across bigger than it really is.

T: The opening flavors, indeed, are sweet and fruity. After that, it gradually dries out. A midtaste full of luscious cocoa powder becomes lightly ashy on the finish and aftertaste. However, it remains plummy throughout the flavor profile, and even shows some good depth.

M: It's got a lighter body, with a mild finishing dryness helping to keep some of the sweeter flavors in check. Carbonation is low as expected, but not quite flat. It's quite easy to drink given its relative rich flavor.

O: Lowish carbonation aside, this has aged like a champ. A shame I'll likely never be able to find this again (barring a trade) because this is really excellent stuff. And hey, I didn't have to drink a crappy Carlsberg lager or sell my soul for a bottle of Kaggen! Stormakstporter just so I could tick a Swedish brew!

Dark brown with ruby highlights and generous foamy tan head that crowns the beer. Very subtle nose, nothings jumping right out. Hints of caramel, roast and chocolate, with even a bit of alcohol as it warms, but its all very much in balance. Mild coffee and hint of Burgundy wine, even a bit tannic mouthfeel, but only serves to balance the malt sweetness.

was fortunate enough to find a 2000 vintage bottle of this for just 13 bucks. the label reads best before November 2010, but im thinking its not past its prime at all. it pours a surprisingly lively darkest of browns, without any light at all able to pass through. the head is made up of micro bubbles of a lighter brown color. the head doesn't last, but its easily reinvigorated with a swirl of my globe. the nose on this is heavy chocolate, burnt malt, ash, and a gentle toffee tickle. it has an aged mellowness to it, very earthy and organic, with roasted barley and cocoa powder dominating up front. the finish is like all the best features of dusty leather, my grandpas attic, mature compost, and smoked pork. its just so complex and delicious. there is a funny astringent bitterness towards the finish and the alcohol stands out more than it should in a beer so low in abv, but other than that its phenomenal. the mouthfeel makes it for me, so gentle on the carbonation, and curiously dry for the style. I love the cocoa powder flavor, it transforms into a cocoa powder feel of sorts, really cool. age has definitely done wonders for this beer, and while ive never had a fresh one, I can assure you that this is one special porter. perhaps also my first beer from Sweden. memorable.

Very dark, with an average head, this beer sneaks up on you like base jumping Airborne Ranger delivering flowers that you forgot for your best girl as you walk up to her doorstep, with its mildly sweet, malty and perfectly balanced slight hopped aroma, and a just short of moderately thick mouth feel, like that of a stout. In fact, I'd bet a case that most people would identify it as a stout, if they were not told it's labeled a porter.

My first reaction right down to the last drop was that "this beer is perfect", so there's that. Although, the second one tasted more sweet to me, after pairings with some of the excellent olives Beer Table serves.

I had it at Beer Table, on tap in Brooklyn, where they really care about teh suds.
