I love visisting Discount Liquour. The selection they have is awe inspiring. Just when you think you have had a lot of different beers, Discount shows you there is an entire world of beer to explore. I could easily lose an hour just looking. The import selection is second to none. There are plenty of domestic and craft inventory as well. The prices are competative and usually about 50 cents to a dollar cheaper then everywhere else. One drawback is the staff isn't always available for recomendations and other questions, although I can usually find someone if I need them. Discount is a must stop when you are in Milwaukee.

This place is great. It's got a great selection, loads of hard-to-find things. They had Bell's Batch 9,000, and 2010 Bigfoot (among other older beers) in December, about 11 months out. Lots of great variety, and very reasonable prices. The beer guy there (or at least the guy working in the beer aisle) was friendly and knowledgable. Good selection of local beers. The only beef I had with this place was that you couldn't mix and match 6 packs with all of the beers there. But overall, this was the best store I visited in Milwaukee, and one of the better beer stores I've ever been to.

Amazing store.
That sums it up nicely.
This is one of those stores that I could shop at every week. The prices are good, the selection is great.
Tons of singles to pickup.
Lots of beer we don't get in IL... Whenever I'm in the area, I will shop at this place. If you want New Glarus, you can go nearly anywhere in the state-- but this store has nearly every beer I could name, including several Unplugged beers that I didn't expect to find.
The employees were all very friendly and knowledgeable, although to be honest, I usually don't ask many questions...
Check bottle dates if possible-- I did notice some Oskar Blues stuff that was stamped last Feb...

I've been here many times in my travels through Milwaukee and their selection is probably second to none in the state. While turnover might be a concern in a place like this, all around I think it is ok in that regard, and sometimes they have vintages of certain beers like of New Glarus Unplugged Series. Don't let the old dingy building fool you! Prices are good and they also carry many of the high end beers of Wisconsin. If a tourist came to Wisconsin and could only go to one place for beer, this would probably it. Will go back again and have already multiple times.

If you're looking for the best collection of bombers, foreign beers, and American craft beers in Milwaukee, look no further. While their beer selection is limited to one aisle and a wall cooler, you will find probably close to 250 types of beer there. The staff is EXTREMELY knowledgable and will help you find exactly the right beer. They have an excellent mix of local, regional, and national craft beers. They also sell kegs if that's what you're interested in. The only downside to Discount Liquors is that they don't do mix and match six packs. Other than that, I can't think of anything else you'd want in a beer store.

I finally made it to Discount Liquor - this place gets so much publicity on this site so i detoured on my way back from downtown today.
As i weaved down roads i've never seen before through neighborhoods i don't desire to visit again, i finally arrive at the shop with the large (pictured sign).
It's nothing special on the inside - old but stock well maintained.
My review comes from the perspective of a Madison resident, not an out-of-stater. The import selection was great - tons of belgians, scandanavian, german, etc. This selection definitely exceeds anything i have seen in Wisconsin, but isn't any better than what one can find in Chicaog.
As far as American craft goes (my reason for stopping), absolutely 0 difference from Madison stores. Well, i guess that is outside of the really old NG Golden Ale/Two Women. I'm not sure how they got that beer, but there is a TON still sitting there.
There are not any Wisconsin micros available in Milwaukee that arent available in Madison to my knowledge but the opposite is not true (Lake Louie, entire Ale Asylum line). They had a lot of Stone, Three Floyds, Smuttynose, Bell's, Founders.
In conclusion, very good store. If passing through from out of state/region, definitely hit this. I don't really see the need to return personally though.

I went a little out of my way to get this place, but man was I rewarded! As soon as I walked in, there was an aisle of bliss...New Glarus, Central Waters, FFF, Stone, Smuttynose...this list could go on for a while. I was especially excited to see some NG Unplugged. As I was shopping around, a couple of emplpyees asked if I needed anything...a couple of them went looking for some CW Coffee Stout to no avail, but at least they offered to look and were helpful. The prices were right, the selection was top notch, and my wallet was hurt. I won't even think going anywhere else next time I am in the area. This is easily one of the best beer store I have been to.

Visited here with a friend while on vacation. Lots of fun stuff to be found here! Grabbed some great New Glarus (R&D's! Two Women Lager and Golden Ale, Cran-bic), Three Floyds (Dreadnaught, Oatgoop, Behemoth, etc), and Sprecher beers. They also had a good selection of Belgian beers. Seemed like more of a wine and liquor store than beer but I am not complaining as I found everything I needed. Would go back any day if I lived by here. Friendly people. The only knock was that we went trying to get some Founder's Centennial IPA and they were out. Oh well, I guess they aren't perfect after all.

When I'm in the Milwaukee area and looking for something this is my go-to place.
The selection is awesome for the Milwaukee area but not world class when compared to some of the great shops in Chicago. A whole side of one aisle dedicated mostly to singles and bombers from imports to domestics. The other side of the aisle has the majority of 4&6 packs. NG has it's own display in the back including unplugged singles. In the back coolers hold many of the locals. Sometimes they will have bootlegged beers (NG R&D, Surly cans) although my personal philosophy does not support this. A complaint is sometimes they will break down sixers of special releases (Bells 9K as example) and have a per bottle price this is far too high. In the Bells example a $17 6 pack turns into $6 singles. I also think they hold back some stock on special release beers which makes for a nice surprise on a random trip. I was able to pick up a 4-pack of NG Iced Barleywine a year after release.
Overall A great beer store and a must stop if you are looking for selection in the Milwaukee area.

I have heard great things about this place, so I had high hopes going into this place; they were met.
The building itself is not much to look at, but it is absolutely stocked with beer. Most of the local stuff is in the back in coolers.
Words actually do not describe how good the selection is here. Great imports from around the US as well as worldwide. Some great prices too.
I could have easily spent $100s since everywhere I looked there was something I either wanted or have not tried yet. Superb selection with prices that caught me off guard.
If you are anywhere near Milwaukee, this is the place to go. This and Ray's are in my opinion are the best beer shops in the area.
