In the darker part of the IPA range, copper with a root beer float head.

Nicely balanced floral hops and crystal malt on the nose.

Taste follows the nose, nicely balanced IPA. NIce flowery pine hop flavor without being overly bitter. Closely following is the caramel, without being overly sweet.

Full bodied for sure. Some lingering acidic hoppy coating.

As IPAs in a can go, it's pretty good. Side by side, I'd probably still go with 21st Amendment's Brew Free or Die, but in its absence, I'd definitely buy this again.

12 oz can poured into pint glass

A: Hazy amber, holding it up to the light results in great colors, gold, orange, brown, the haze makes it look interesting, the head is super creamy, eventually settles to just a slight film, but it laces great

S: Aroma is all hop, light and grassy, some resin and very light tangerine too, pretty mild though for an IPA

T: Flavor is even more subdued that the aroma, more like a pale ale, there is hardly any punch to the hops, the flavor is pleasant enough, but its just some light resin with a hint of some fruitiness but way less than the aroma, easy to drink, but a let down for sure

M: Lower carbonation, tastes like a well served draft beer, which I like, makes it easy to drink, body is medium

O: A great beer, easy to drink, smooth, flavors are pleasant, the kind of beer you want on a hot day when you need something refreshing. It does not live up to the IPA style though in my opinion. As it warms you can sense the alcohol and its definitely strong enough to be an IPA. However, in flavor and bitterness it is a pale ale. Just drink it when you want a pale and you won't be disappointed.

I was just about to poor this out - it isn't my type of IPA. But just as I was poring it I stopped and took another swig and I realized what I was smelling on the nose and tasting.

I'm sorry, but this reminds me of good steak; a good ribeye or sirloin right off the grill. Again this isn't my style of IPA, it's way to Malty for me, but I have to admit that I believe that this would probably go great with a steak. I haven't tried it though, it's just a hunch.

Anyway; it's a pretty good beer, just not my style.

12 oz single for $2.75. Caldera IPA just came to New Orleans this month.

A: Look is somewhere between Celebration and Zoe: dark amber with a huge head, glorious froth, and tons of lacing.

S: Very unique. Gingerbread, caramel, butterscotch. Very floral also.

T: Salty and malty on front end -- not my thing -- but then the hop wave is clean and subtle and nicely floral.

M: Mellow carbo; standard APA/IPA feel, maybe a little thin.

O: Caldera IPA probably isn't something I'll return to regularly given the price point, but the taste profile is extremely unique. The Red IPA crowd will appreciate.

Poured into a goblet

A: hazy amber with an off-white head with plenty of staying power. Significant lacing.

S: grapefruit-y hops, earthy. Grainy. Citrus.

T: Smooth, bitter hops that don't bite. Light caramel malts that blend for a very pleasant combo. Grassy. Citrus-y.

M : light to medium. Dry finish.

O: Great IPA. One I would seek out again. Thanks, Cliff.

Appearance - Pours a semi-hazy golden amber with an off-white finger width head. Good retention, resulting in a thin layer of microbubbles across the surface. Lacing is small and spotty, with fair stick.

Smell - Juicy hop aroma with a very faint caramel touch. Earthy and floral.

Taste - Juicy upfront, hinting at pineapple and orange, with moderate tones of caramel, earth and floral character hitting their strides by mid-taste. Residual bitterness in the finish, reminiscent of orange pith.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Remarkable smoothness and ease of drinking. It's going down faster than I can write this review!

Overall - With no freshness date, it's hard to determine just how old this IPA is, but it doesn't seem to be in its prime; the hops feel quite muted. Good as it was, but I'd like to re-review this one with a can I know is fresh.
