Let me start off, that while I've only been a couple times, this easily my second favorite in Kansas City. Located in the River Market neighborhood of downtown KC, this place is a little out of the way but well worth it. Go buy some spices at River Market, buy some junk at the River Market Flea Market then shimmy on over to Harry's for some southern food and fantastic beer. The decor is comfy southern. There is a big painting of a half naked Indian above a fantastic old bar back. Everything is laid back and the bartenders are excellent. Everyone one is very informed on the beer, scotch and bourbon selections. Fantastic service. That's really all I can say. Probably the most informed bartenders in the city. The selection tend toward British and German crafts with a good intermingling of American crafts. There were several Boulevard beers on including Tank 7 and Nomo Dubbel, but I really focus on the British beers while I'm there. They probably have 4 or 5 bitters and a couple mild's every time you go. Where else in the city are you going to find that. The food is really good. Its all country fair. I normally eat the fired bologna and cheese sandwich. The only draw back to this place is...its located to far away from me. Wish it was in Waldo.

Dropped in to this place unplanned on a Friday night. We had already eaten dinner at another place so we didn't try the food.
The beer selection is one of the best that I've found in Kansas City. The beer menu is a bit difficult to navigate but the selection is truly first rate.
The crowd was eclectic to say the least. Bikers, punkers, business people and every day folk. Definitely a western flavor to the decor but not overwhelming. Seems like everyone that was there just enjoyed the place without questioning who we were and why we were there.
The tequila, whiskey and scotch selections are pretty diverse too. You can build your own flight from categories by price and the selection is far better than most bars in the KC area.

Better than I might have expected here ... with other folks gushing about Yard Beers...
15 beers on tap- 5 of BLVD including the seasonal (Irish Ale now).
Fat Tire, Stella, 1664, Newcastle, Beamish and a first for me, Grimbergen Belgian Dubble. (Plus, for who knows what historic reason , 3 Coors brews).
They use nice glassware and Scott at the bar was very informative.
40 plus bottled beers on the menu. They conveniently put lagers on the left and you can ignore all but Kostritzer Schwarzbier and the Anchor.
SNPA, LaFin, and five Belgians grace the Ale side of the sheet ( Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Duvel).
Okay- Schlitz, PBR, Heileman all made at Miller and in the can if you must.
They suckered me- I thought the long bar and many fixtures were authentic and learned otherwise. Still, nicely decorated.
Whisky flights were a feature and they also sell cigars, so everybody can take care of their vices. Food looked good.
Mixed ages crowd is nice. Harry's beats the River Market Brewery down the street handily.
Well worth a stop.

This place opened in KC's River Market district in late 2003 or early 2004, after Big Daddy's closed, and has steadily gained in popularity since then. When you walk in the door, you'll see why. An eclectic mix of old-time country music, Kansas City-style jazz, and an effortless urban hipness pervades this bar.
The bar extends the length of the room, along the right-hand wall, and is lined with the normal tap selection, totaling about 15 beers. It should be noted, however, that Harry's Country Club is the only bar in the downtown area where you can always find Boulevard's delicious Bully Porter on tap.
The menu is a testament to the effort of the staff at Harry's wanting to appear as "old-timey" as possible, offering burger and "yard beer," combinations, alongside modest smoked salmon appetizers.
The service is very good, with attentive, attractive, friendly waitresses always willing to take care of whatever you need, and will take a sip of your beer, if you offer it to them.
In the warmer months, there is a great outdoor area with its own bar and cover for live acts. The cat seems, largely, to be out of the bag, with this place, though, so if you plan on going on a weekend, make sure to get there early enough to get a table.
