Reddish brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty and sweet.A medium bodied bock. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. There is a residual sourness/tartness that sort of dominates everything else in this beer. The finish is surprisingly dry. The dryness and the unexpected sourness (is it supposed to be there? Or is the beer infected?) make this an interesting and very different bock beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and a little sour.

Acquired via trade from cpolking so a big “Thank You” goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, lager yeast, maple, honey, some spice and some hops.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of caramel, honey, fruit and a touch of chocolate. Then some breadiness comes in from a hearty malt character and lager yeast. The hops presence is mild but complementary and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer worth drinking for a long time if you’re in the mood for the style.

12 oz bottle acquired as part of a mixed 12 pack from Princeton Liquors in Maple Grove, MN. Poured ~4C into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Hazy brown / red body with a light tan head that drops quickly to a ring with little lacing.
S: An incredibly intriguing nose. Definite roasted malts, light sweetness with almost a smokiness about it. Cocoa powder, hint of earth... Mmm...
T: Incredibly nuanced. Tons of things going in here, while being well balanced. Coffee, chocolate, caramel sweetness. Some Ritz crackers and bread. The bitterness comes off as earthy with a spicy note.
M: Super well balanced, with bright carbonation and a very light lingering bitterness.
O: Not what I was expecting at all. This beer has made my day, too bad it is my last one as I gave some away and drank a few when I had drank a few too many so I didn't realize its sheer awesomeness. An amazing amount of flavours and nuance for a smaller beer.

Millstream's Schokolade Bock is an acceptable bock bier with a strongly pleasing feel on the palate and notable elements used in the recipe. That being said, I thought the use of chocolate was somewhat gimmicky and acted against the beer's potential interesting malt combinations. While a drinkable beer, this wasn't a bock that really had what I would want in a representation of the style; instead, it is like a gimmick beer to me.

After pouring, the 1cm light tan head I was able to produce collapsed very quickly, leaving no lacing or spots. Eventually, I am left with a thin ring around the glass. A beer with an ethanol content in the 5% range should not have such a hard time maintaining a head. Beer's body is a very dark ruby-brown color out of light, amber chocolate brown when in it. Body is nearly opaque, but I can see slightly through it

Aroma is of lightly roasted malt, sweetish toasted or brown malt, and modest milk chocolate or chocolate powder; slight raisin scent. Overall, scent is fairly straightfoward and not particularly enticing or signaling me to partake of it.

Front of palate picks up toasted or brown malt aspects combined with light milk chocolate or chocolate powder. This becomes more pronounced mid-palate, with roasted malt characters becoming noticeable along with an increased chocolate presence. Some spiciness is present mid-palate, and ethanol actually makes it through as well, particularly when slightly warm, which is disappointing. Closes out with a flash of sugary sweetness, leading to an aftertaste of slightly roasted, slightly tart malt characters. Good, but the alcohol noticeability in a bock detracts somewhat.

Beer is medium bodied with ample carbonation to make this foam up on the palate, creating a smooth and pillowy mouthfeel. Seems about right for a bock. Closes out with a dry finish.

A- Garnet, slightly brown. The head retention is quite poor.
S- Brown bread, a bit of caramel, and some raisens.
T- Complex flavor here. It is almost a like a light quad. Big raisen flavor with some dark bread, and a bit of toffee lingering. Lots of malty flavor.
M- Medium body, almost creamy carb. Long finish.
O- A very delicious beer that has a good mouthfeel. Far and away the best beer I've had from Millstream.

Pours mahogany with good activity, clarity, red highlights when backlit, and a thin finger of tan foam that fades fast and leaves no lacing.

Yeasty with a bit of malty sweetness and dark fruit initially. A wee nip of booze later, and not much else. And it's faint overall.

Tastes like the smell but better and stronger. Malty sweet, dark fruit, light hop bitterness, very mild roast, and German yeast character play well together and combine to make a pretty tasty beer.

Strong carbonation with a bit of a bite, the body is on the thin side of medium, and it is pretty smooth overall.

This is a pretty good beer. I'd be proud of it if I made it. But it's not amazing and doubt it will be memorable.
