As has been stated below, the Esso is widely respected among those with any connection to Clemson. It is practically a stones throw away from the football stadium making it perfect for pregame festivites.
The beer selection is borderline dismal but once again it's the atmosphere that draws in most.
The place is decked out in Clemson garb that any fan would love to own. A couple of pool tables in the wing make it an enjoyable place to share a pitcher with a couple of friends.
The food isn't bad. They have a respectable meat and three.
Stop by if you're in Clemson.

Good atmosphere if you're a Clemson fan. Not much in the way of beer. Redhook ESB & Newcastle Brown is about all they have beside the usual macros. Live music around the weekends, especially during football season. Fun atmosphere for that. Indoor & outdoor seating, as well as at the bar.
Food is good - typical bar menu. Wings, salads, sandwhiches, burgers, etc...
Service can vary from excellent to "do we still have a waitress?" depending on when you go.
If you're looking for good beer in Clemson, there's better places to visit.

The Esso Club is a converted gas station located in Clemson, SC a short walk from campus. While the beer selection is limited, it is the atmosphere that makes this place special to all whose "Blood Runneth Orange". It is not uncommon for the owners black lab to meander through the place. The bar itself is made from old wooden seats from "Death Valley" when the football stadium was remodeled in the early 70's. The establishment boasts the oldest continous beer license on the state. Truly a magical place and a must go to on fall football weekends. One of Brent Musburger's favorite game day hangouts.

The lengend, pure and simple. If there was ever one establishment, not in any way connected to a college or university, that IS the college town, it is the Esso Club. This place, formerly a transformed gas station, has gone through something of a metamorphosis over the past few years. While their beer selection is average, their food menu and atmosphere, not to mention their service has improved greatly. While some of the good ol' boys still hang out there, this is still a place that must be seen when visiting Tiger Town. The decor is much different than that of what it used to be. Clean, glossy and loaded with Clemson artifacts and memorabilia. The menu is typical pub grub fare, and above average at that. If you are in town, you must visit this iconic location.
