appearance: Black as night on the pour but when held up to the light you can see a deep red. Very nice.
Smell: smells like burnt coffee, but not in an awesome way. Not bad, but not my favorite. Something a little funky as well, almost a little bit sour.
Taste: Wow. Far different from the smell. Beautiful, smooth, sweet coffee notes with a slight bitterness at the back that resembles black coffee more than beer. This is just awesome.
Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy in body with better carbonation than I expected.
Overall: I traded for this and was by FAR the most I've spent on a beer (after shipping costs about $9 for 12oz), and it was completely worth it. This is just fantastic.

Poured out of a 12 oz can into my tulip.
A – Deep brown to black on the pour. Huge two ringers of bubbly, frothy tan head that left nice rings down the glass and had good retention.
S – Very nice chocolate smell. Coffee, vanilla and mocha.
T – Strong coffee flavors like an espresso. Much lighter chocolate taste then the smell would suggest. Light notes of vanilla throughout. Caramel flavors at the end and a deep breath of alcohol lingers after each taste. You can really feel the ABV. Also finishes with a nice roastiness, a touch of smoke and a bite of malty bitterness.
M – Medium bodied. A touch thin on the palate though it does have a creaminess to it.
O – Very nice tasty brew. The ABV is present but not overwhelming. It has a nice complex taste and warms nicely. Definitely a sipper.

S: Coffee strong. I'm awake now.
T: Heavy coffee with light hops and chocolate undertones. A great breakfast/brunch drink.

12oz can. Purchased for ~$3. Best before July 2013.
A- Dark brown body with good clarity. A bit hazy due to the last cm of the can having some mild sediment. Big rocky light brown head with lots of lacing and good retention.
S- Brown sugar, cola, figs, chocolate, and sweetened diner coffee. It's a very sugary nose. It's a very syrupy sweetness with light notes of coffee.
T- Really sweet. Roast flavors from the coffee atop an almost overly sugary sweetness. Brown sugar malt flavors with a cocoa nib bitterness. The sweetness continues to build as the beer warms with really mild roast flavors that are overwhelmed. The hop bitterness is relatively mild when held up to the malt profile. The flavors just don't compliment each other. The roast flavors are too mild and the sweetness too big.
MF- The mouthfeel is medium with soft and somewhat low carbonation. It's just too soft. I'd prefer a creamier feel and I feel that this carbonation does not support the flavors appropriately.
O- This beer is okay. I enjoy coffee beers, I love porters and stouts, but this beer just did not come together for me. That's not to say that it's not a good beer, but just not to me.

A - super dark brown, with some red shining though, doesnt seem to be black, raises up a half a finger of light brown head
S - roasted malts and of course the adjuncts coffee and cacao create the aroma of this porter. The chocolate is a mild milk chocolate variety that blends with the coffee for a low key mocha type aroma
T - the malts start off rather normal, nondescript. After a moment of trepidation, "will this beer be boring?", the coffee and chocolate kick in and sweel then fade into the finish.
M&D&O- wheres the 10%? Sixpoint does a fine job of maksing a double digit ABV behind some solid, albeit not terribly earth shattering flavors. A fine porter with great flavors, it deserves a place among a porter lineup, but it doesn't redefine the style, I guess I am trying to say, this is a good beer and Sixpoint continues to impress. And that the good people over at Sixpoint should send a pint glass in my direction! Ooops, was that out loud.

Bought the 4-pack at $14.99. So i am expecting a huge or an excellent beer.
Poured from the thin 12-oz can into a snifter. Excellent about two finger thick tan colored head that stays really well as a thin layer. Good retention. Thin dark brown colored while pouring and black and opaque inside the glass. Decent to excellent sticky lacing.
A coffee burst opens up and fills the nose when it is poured into the snifter. Though coffee is the dominant aroma, the strength withers off. Ground coffee. A lot of roasted malts come through as well. No booze. Low to none hop aroma. Strength is moderate to just about strong.
Taste is excellent as well. A lot of bitterness coming up from raw ground coffee and burnt up roasted malts. No booze come through but you know you are drinking something strong as the beer kicks in really well with first sip. A nice Russian Imperial Stout like taste. Finish is dry and very bitter. Coffee flavor is decent but not something i was expecting. I was expecting a lot more coffee than i tasted and smelled.
Mouth feel is medium. Moderate carbonation. A good warmth due to alcohol. Charred and burnt malts along with ground coffee provide a bit of bitter astringency.
Overall the brew is good but not $4 good. Should have been 10 -12 $ for a 4-pack. Packs the punch. Excellent beer to open on a weekend morning and to drink in lieu of Coffee.

12 oz can poured into a snifter
A- Pours very dark brown, Almost pitch black in the glass. A one finger of a ligher khaki colored head. Some alcohol legs on this one.
S- A little coffee, some roasted malt, a bit of cocoa. A robust and roasty smelling brew.
T- A nice coffee up front. A massive roasty character that takes over the palate. A bit of a dark and very dry chocolate. This beer really smells organic and fresh. There is also a bit of a hop bitterness in this beer. A very slight crisp wood character to this brew. A spicy and earthy hop note. A dry roasted finish. A somewhat clean beer that is well balanced and blended.
M- A big beer. Very roasty and dry. Not a very heavy body. Its nicely balanced and the alcohol is just strong enough to where its not noticeable.
O- This is a great beer. A unique and well made beer thats sure to please stout lovers.

Pour dark brown with a brownish creamy head. The head wasn't very long lasting, perhaps less than a minute.
The aroma was typical of a chocolate or coffee porter/stout, but not as pronounced. There was a hint of citrus in the bouquet.
The first taste was light, semi-rich , mostly in chocolate, but as the beer went down, I could detect the coffee. This was also fairly carbonated for a porter/stout.
The second and third sips were the same, started with chocolate ending with coffee... Cant figure out where the third bean came into play.
This is a definite porter/stout for those that do not like the real heavy almost zero carbonated stouts (which I love)... Still I would have this one again.
I'd like to compare this porter with several well known Russian Imperial Stouts. More carbonated and lighter then the heavy stouts
The more sips I had, the more pronounced the chocolate was. Real smooth and lingering.

Snowy night here in the Northeast. Just finished with my snowblower and thought I would treat myself to some stouts. The 3Bean was the first I had. No question about more coffee this time around. Everything was almost perfect. Very soft and big in my mouth hitting every sense there. Aftertaste was just as it started, a nice soft chocolate but mucho cafe stout/porter. After I tasted this one, I went on to the next (which will be seen updated)

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.
A real nice black walnut brown body, with a large four finger head and a creamy tan top. Swiss cheese head, and lots of clumping rocky lacing. While walnut brown, there's a good hint of some red hues along the edges and through the light.
Nose rips of dry roast coffee. The beans feel just ripped, lots of oil. While suggestions of cocoa bean and hints of roast malt are no doubt around it's just a giant coffee boom. Faint hinting sense of nut, but this is truly coffee forward.
This one is quite surprising for taste. Palate comes with warming coffee silky action. For a brew it's wet, but for the coffee angle it's just perfect. Warming roast coffee with a little bit of silky roast character. However the aftertaste just explodes in warmth, very gradually. Hits of Kahlua abound on the finish, with a touch of vodka like heat. Hop angle creates this slow bitter in the mid palate on the swallow, hinting somewhere between lime and orange zest bitterness. Hints of dried fig come out also.
Overall I don't find much Baltic "sense" about this (not getting that banana feeling) but in terms of what this is, it's pretty darn fun, and certainly a great take for a style I am a little averse to.

A: A very dark brown with good clarity and deep ruby highlights. The persistant head pour about a finger of creamy tan foam and settles to a thin cap after a minute.
S: Deep toast with chocolate and moderate plums. Moderate earthy hops aroma. A light coffee aroma.
T: A rich and moderately sweet Porter with a rich chocolate, cocoa flavor. A prominent roast flavor with some dark fruit flavors. A moderately-light hops bitterness. The balance is about even. The finish is medium with a rich roast, coffee chocolate aftertaste.
M: Creamy and smooth with a medium-heavy body and moderate carbonation.
O: It's chocolate rich and smooth.

S-a really delicious mixture of coffee, chocolate, and light roasted malt
T-initially met with roasted malt but then the coffee/chocolate/mocha flavor really takes over, left with a really nice sweetness finishing things up. Alcohol is well hidden.
M-milkshake like quality to this beer, very creamy, light to medium carbonation. Left with a dry roasted feeling.

Best before July 10, 2013. Poured into a snifter.
A - Deep brown hue with a beautiful mocha head. Nice carbonation in this head, good retention with above average lacing.
S - Bitter coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, light dark malts and a touch of caramel.
T -Bit of everything mentioned in the nose with an apparent lack of balance. Tons of good flavor here, just requires calibration.
M - Medium+ body with large carbonation for the style.
O - The booze is well masked and this beer certainly has a unique flavor, although nothing that I will regret forgoing in the future.

Sixpoint 3BEANS
12 0z. can, "BEST BEFORE 10 JULY 2013 0808OK+"
An interesting beer to be sure. What were the beans used? Coffee? Yes. Cocoa? Yes. And the Romano bean... ? I've never heard of it. But I looked it up and they're kind of like green beans. And I think that's interesting in itself, that brewers used to use beans as an adjunct, an that Sixpoint's done it in modern times. (I'm assuming they've just used the seeds, and not the whole bean).
Onward, it's a pretty immense beer. It's black-brown in color with a creamy head of tan that holds well and leaves sheets of craggy, spotty lace along the glass. Nice.
It smells of coffee for sure. Dark, rich, roasty and acidic black coffee like espresso. In fact, in tasting it, it leaves the flavor of a chocolate coated espresso bean behind. So, yes, there's chocolate as well. Intense, dark and mainly bitter chocolate. You smell them both upfront, and then you taste them both as well. The only thing missing is the Romano bean, but I'm guessing that might be adding to it's body, which is a little bit beyond medium-full. And in fact it might be fuller, but I think some of the 10% abv. cuts through that. Some alcohol is found in the flavor and aroma as well, but it's not really brash, and it just adds a bit of a raspy edge to the taste. And on that note, there's a little bit of yeasty fruitiness, and a vanilla note and some oaky woodiness to it as well. Did they age this in oak? Or is that just the dryness of the alcohol combining with the coffee acidity to give the impression of woody dryness?
So, overall, an interesting beer. It doesn't quite live up to the hype of the concept, but it is a pretty solid chocolate and coffee strong ale. Worth trying.

Well I dropped the 4 bucks for the single on this through Halftime beverage. Was pretty much the only way to try this beer since I couldn't find it anywhere local. Best by July 10th 2013
A - Wow very lively with carbonation giving me tons of bubbles in the glass and a 1/2 inch of deep mocha head. Looks also like an imperial stout should with inescapable blackness void and no ruby coloring!
S - Well your not going to get founders breakfast stout but it does have quite a bit of coffee in the nose. Mostly roast and some dark chocolate funny I was really expecting more. Maybe faded?
T - Has its moments of both coffee, chocolate, roast, and vanilla with the typical house yeast to me gives it a weird metallic flavor mid palate that leads to the finish with bittering hops. I read it is the flavor of "burnt tobacco" never did have it this strong but I don't like it. I really wish this wasn't very distracting but damn man it taste like can! Drinking this out of my tulip glass so it can't be from licking can either.
M - Medium bodied it does a great job hiding the ABV beneath hops even though it does show it in the finish.
Overall I am going away from this very disappointed. As a lover of many imperial stouts some overly hoppy, others chocolaty, many just run of the mill this one does deliver everything but fails to be more than just a homebrew effort that doesn't deserve such high praise.

SixPoint 3Beans
12oz. hot chocolate brown colored can with a colorful shield on the front. This white shield has their trademark of an orange 6 point star, a wired oval with beans and leaves in it, and the name of the beer in large brown letters. The back of the can has all the mandatory US info and a brief description of the beer. The bottom of the can has a best before date. My can is best before 10 July 2013.
When poured into a Cycle Brewing Snifter, this coffee beer poured a coffee black. No cream and sugar in this coffee, but there was a small glimmer of dark burgundy at the bottom of the beer. That was the only place where light could shine through this beer. On top of this coffee beer was a good sized 1/2 an inch light beige head of foam. Great retention that left behind a skim of foam and plenty of beige streaks of lace around the glass.
It looked like coffee, did it smell like coffee? It sure as hell did! This aroma wasn't going to play around. Up front was the thick strong scent of dry roasted coffee beans. Not cheap coffee beans. You can smell the quality of the coffee beans. Right behind the coffee was the dark chocolate, roasted malt, a drop of caramel, a pinch of alcohol, and a faint whiff of vanilla. Lets just say that nose couldn't get enough of this beer.
It looked like coffee, smelled like coffee, but did it taste like coffee? You bet your ass it did. Like the aroma, the taste wasn't going to play around either. Right up front was the strong taste of dry roasted coffee beans. Quality coffee bean taste. No Folger's crystals in this taste. Waiting for its turn behind the thick coffee wall was the bitter dark chocolate and dark roasted malt. After those flavors had their little fun, the taste then finished up with a sprinkle of vanilla, a dab of caramel, a raisin or two, more coffee, a pinch of burnt tobacco, and a drop of alcohol. Even though this beer clocks in at 10% ABV, I liked how there wasn't much alcohol in the taste. I'm sure the thick dry roasted coffee flavor had something to do with that.
This was clearly a full bodied coffee beer. There was no denying that. As for the aftertaste, I'm sure you can guess what was in that. Juicy fruits? No! The aftertaste was thick with dry roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, roasted malt, burnt tobacco, and a drop or two of alcohol. This thick roasted aftertaste will leave a coating on the roof of your mouth. It will take a few glasses of water to get rid of it. I could feel the alcohol working its magic on my body.
Looked like coffee, smelled like coffee, tasted like coffee, but its not a coffee. Don't let the small can fool you. Its not the size of the can that matters. Its what is on the inside that matters. This beer packs a big dry roasted coffee punch. If you like your coffee beers then it would be a good idea to seek this one out. I wish I had a few more cans.

12 oz can poured into a snifter.
Pours very dark brown, nearly black, with a finger of off-white foam. Aroma is roasted, tannic, bitter, astringent stale coffee-like sensation mixed with unsweetened dark chocolate. As a coffee lover, this smells amazing, almost like cold-pressed coffee.
First sip is quite potent, with a astringent coffee flavor smacking the taste buds up front. That gives way to a hit of sweet cocoa flavor, but not much. There is also a long lingering bitterness on the tongue. Beer is quite viscous, and the 10% ABV is reasonably well hidden.
This is a very interesting, unique beer. I give kudos to Sixpoint for pushing the envelope yet again. That said, I feel this is a touch too bitter and unbalanced toward the coffee side to be truly great. At the current price point of $13+ for a 4 pack, I'll be passing in the future.

12oz can with no freshness date. Served in a tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours very dark brown with 3 fingers of a khaki colored head. Good retention and lacing. Body is dark but not opaque. When held up to light, color is a dark amber with lots of visible carbonation streaming throughout.
Smell: Coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted malt, earth. The aroma is nice, just not very strong.
Taste: Follows the aroma pretty closely. Coffee, roasted malt, earthiness, vanilla. Malt sweetness upfront is balanced by a strong coffee bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Fuller end of medium bodied with medium carbonation. Lingering coffee bitterness.
Overall: Pretty good, but not mind blowing. If you're a fan of porters or coffee stouts, it's definitely worth a try.

Poured from a can into a tulip.
A - A semi-clear brown. Somewhat thick full head that filled the top quarter of the glass. Must admit I was a bit impressed by the cream colored foam that awaited.
S - Aroma was of a mild coffee. Not much more to me, but still nice. Kind of what I expected.
T - Right off the bat I got the coffee followed by a mild sweetness. Then came the vanilla. A modest cream flavor that was a pleasant surprise. Not too sweet. Really enjoyed mild and easy to drink.
M - Crisp and delightful. Not too heavy. I guess I could have hoped for a bit more but was not disappointed.
O - A fine brew from Sixpoint. One I would enjoy when looking for an easy to drink coffee brew. I was expecting a bit more coffee to it, but a solid drinker none the less.

A- Pours slightly off-black, which is about the only way to tell it apart from a stout. Dark, dark brown to black body with a medium to large tan head. Retention is awesome and so is the lacing.
S- Complex blend of chocolate and coffee, but more chocolate in the scent. Blend provides a chocolate malt-like (like a chocolate shake) scent. Only slight hints of other dark malts peek in, but this is a mostly sweet smelling beer.
T- Opposite of the smell, with coffee taking the predominant role right off the bat. Mildly bitter coffee is followed by a little more bitterness from roasted malts. The chocolate makes a slight appearance in the flavor towards the end, adding some decent sweetness. Ends with a lingering coffee bitterness.
M- Light and moderately carbonated. Body is much lighter than anticipated based on pour and alcohol content. Alcohol is disguised in the taste, but a little of it can be felt after a sip or two. Fairly drinkable for the ABV.
Overall, I'm a little disappointed given all of the hype around this beer. To me it seemed like this beer was highly sought after, but in high supply. Not a bad beer. It's a good coffee and chocolate blend in a solid dark beer, but nothing special.

A: dark brown/almost black body, three finger white foamy head rises and falls leaving some speckled foamy spider web lacing and is fairly clingy
S: dark coffee up front, slight chocolate in the background
T: sweet and bitter at different time through the coffee and chocolate, sticky bitter aftertaste and finishes slightly dry
M: light to medium, fairly sessionable despite where the ABV is, carbonation seems just right to me and for the style

A- Almost fully opaque dark brown. When held up to the light it has a cola color. Huge head and long retention with lots of lacing.
S- Cold out of the fridge it has a chocolate liqueur smell or a sort've mousse smell to it. As it warms the coffee comes out a bit but it's faint and you have to put your nose in there.
T- When cold out of the can, the taste is quite different. Similar to the smell it's liqueur like. Also like the smell, the coffee really starts to come out as it warms. It's definitely better as it warms but the transition is interesting. Finishes with a astringent salty taste. The bitterness covers up the 9% alcohol well. Can't really taste any of the oak that it was apparently aged on.
M- About right for the style, if a bit thin. Somewhere between thin and medium.
O- Not what I was expecting but it grew on me as I drank it. I've been to the brewery so drinking these always remind me of my trip.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours pitch black with a large light brown head. Smells of coffee, coffee, and did I mention coffee? Also smells of chocolate. Tastes of coffee, coffee, and chocolate, very deep taste, but sweeter than expected with the smell. Heavy body, but it is still very drinkable, carbonation is just right. Overall, a very good beer.

A: This brew pours out a dark brown color, almost black, a nice two finger tan head at the top that leaves some nice lacing around the glass.
S: The nose on this beer is filled with chocolate, vanilla and some nice roasted malts, such a good smell to this one.
T: Almost exactly like the nose, up front is lots of chocolate with coffee and roasted malts, a slight hint of bitterness, but a perfect balance.
M: Medium bodied, a nice thickness and creamy.
O: This brewery just keeps making some solid good stuff, was very impressed by this beer, actually wish I bought two 4 packs instead of just one, really enjoyed this brew!
