BESTBEFORE10JUL2013

A: Pours a dark ruby/mahogany color with a fingers worth of head

S: Get some chocolate malts up front, with coffee, dark fruits, and cacao as the highlights

T: Coffee and chocolate right out of the gate, along with vanilla and a solid fruitiness. Fairly sweet from the chocolate and bitter from the coffee. Finishes with more of a bitter coffee aftertaste. For a 10% brew, the alcohol is nowhere to be found

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and slightly creamy

O: Definitely one of the most chocolate and coffee forward beers I've had without going overboard on the sweetness (yes, I'm looking at you, ST Mokah). Disappointed this is a one-off, although I can see why it is with the actual cacao and coffee being added. Definitely recommended while it's still available

12oz can into tulip.

A - Dark brown-black with a titanic frothy tan head.

S - Spent coffee grounds, roasted malt, sweet cocoa, subtle dark fruit.

T - Burnt, sweet roasted malt throughout. Milk chocolate and black coffee blends well with the strong roasty flavor. Mild earthy hops impart a light to mild bitterness on the back end. Finishes with hints of toffee, vanilla, dark fruit, and grainy malt.

M - Creamy and smooth, medium body. Medium carbonation, somewhat dry finish. Just the right amount of warming alcohol.

O - A balanced, pleasurable stout/porter. Where is the alcohol? It really drinks like a 5% ABV porter. 3Beans is a prime candidate for a sipping/dessert beer, but it also goes down really easy. My advice is to take your time with this one. I expected a bit more heft in the body, but overall it's a well crafted, flavorful beer.

12oz. can poured into a Flying Dog goblet (best before 7/10/13)

A: Dark, almost pitch black with excellent lacing. The head diminishes rapidly though.

S: Complex with a lot of notes. Espresso, just brewed black coffee, freshly ground coffee beans, malted barley, sweet dark chocolate. The cacao and coffee really come through and mix quite well.

T: Excellent blend of flavors that is a complex combination. It really tastes like it smells. Lots of coffee and chocolate, with a nice hint of malty sweetness. I really don't get any hops. You really have to be paying attention to even notice the bit of pine resin in there, because it is similar to the coffee and cocoa flavors here. Not a bad thing in this case. I didn't really get any romano beans, but that may only come through in the rich, full earthy body that it has, which probably is a bit antagonistic with the hops.

M: Nice even carbonation that lends a good bit of coarseness. Quite subtle and nice, which goes well with the flavors here. Overall, quite smooth though.

O: Finally, a Sixpoint that I really like. This is great. Right in line with the recent Dayman and Espresso RIS. I loved the combination and concept here, probably because it was perfectly executed. Now this is how you do chocolate and coffee, in a beer. I haven't had many Baltic Porters, but this one was top notch.

Thanks to JayCin for this lovely, weird little 12 oz. can. Nice package. I can't decide whether it looks appropriately throwback or something over-designed by an idiot who watched too many episodes of Mad Men. Either way, I like it.

Pour is dark & doesn't bother to hide its carbonation. Nose holds plenty of the advertised roast but doesn't lean over the line into coffee, mixed in with Nicaraguan earth. Hmmmm. Not what I expected, but decent enough.

3Beans is like a beginner coffee: this should come with a nipple. Mild roast in the nose gives way to mild coffee on the tongue, along with a poke of cocoa that soothes the sharp edges & turns this more espresso, creamy, even. Bitterness flirting with harshness lines the mid-palate, & not in a hoppy way, but a coffee-in-the-morning way. Mouthfeel is certainly the high point.

This is a good beer. Nothing out of the ordinary. Above average. Solid. <shrug> Just a mite bit nondescript.

Yeah... Raul is feeling this one. Thanks to a nice trade from the Garden State, Raul got himself some of this goodie sauce.

Pretty much just solid like a #2 after eating Del Taco after Midnight. Beautiful dark textures and flavors like taking acid on the moon.

Raul likes this, Raul likes this a lot.

12 oz can pours a dark crimson color with some highlighting when held to light. Thick tan froth sticks around a good while and leaves great lace...good looking brew here.

Nose is coffee mostly with some ancillary aromas of lactose, chocolate and toasted white bread.

Taste is a very nice blend of coffee and cocoa with a soft, grassy hop bite. The ABV is very well hidden and goes down really smooth. This is top notch actually as far as non-bomber imperial stout/porter offerings. I was a bit hesitant to drop 13 bones on a 4-pack, but am glad I did so now and might even go pick up another. The smoothness of the beer along with a silky body is quite impressive. The legumes do seem to add a richer texture, especially if this is indeed a porter...it gives it a more stout-esque character.

Thanks to rgilbert for this one.

Poured from a sharp looking 12oz can, best before 10 Jul 2013.

Appearance: Dark brown body with cherry wood tinges; huge, light brown head that really sits in the glass.

Smell: Fresh cocoa beans, coffee, oatmeal cookies, raisins.

Taste: Awesome combo of strong coffee and bitter-sweet cocoa. Liquid chocolate in finish.

Mouthfeel: Good bitterness, a bit acidic, roasted feel lurks in the background.

Overall: Not quite the smooth stout but overall a good stout.
