Called their "doppelsticke". Had on tap at The Pony Bar in New York.

Pours a burnt amber colour with a fine white head. Concentric lacing around the glass with a fine bead of carbonation that slowly flows to the top. Nice body, pretty nice look all up.

Nose is mild and slightly woody, with some rustic, earthy tones and hints of oak, or even more surprisingly, cedar. Mild and a little bit whiffy, but interesting enough.

Taste is also quite mild, but the wood character here is a little too dominant, and lasts for too long. Slight vanilla sweetness and a touch of spice, but there's not enough of anything to balance the prominent and rather biting wood characters. A touch too astringent on the finish.

Eh, I've had better from Sixpoint. Yes, this might be mad, but it just comes across as not that well thought out.

Served at Barcade.. got to share this with the Bros themselves after running into them in Brooklyn... also got to meet the Sixpoint team... super cool cats!!!

Looks like a dopplebock, dark brown, smells of malt and raisins.

It's a little more bitter than most bocks, but still has the malt, raising, date quality. The flavors mask the alcohol really well. The mouthfeel is fizzy and smooth.

Decent bock if you can get your hands on it. Definitely worth a try.

On tap at the armsby abbey. Served in a tulip.

A - This brew has a nice crystal clear hazelnut pour with a creamy two finger head that slowly fades to leave nice side lacing and a creamy halo.

S - some light spice and malt notes. Don't really get altbier when I smell this.

T - kinda like the nose in that its sweet spices. Slightly quad like in that its sweet and kinda like heavy.

M - okay kinda heavy and syrupy. Very low carbon. Not the best altbier.

O - Overall this is an ok altbier. I've had much better alts.

A - A nice dark see through copper, leaves about a finger of off white head at the top that that creates a nice lacing around the glass as you drink.

S - Nice caramel malts with hints of nice spice, and brown sugar .

T - The taste was great for me, strong taste of sweet caramel up front with some hints of fruit and some spice almost same as nose.

M - Medium bodied and perfect amount of carbonation.

D - Veru Drinkable, fantastic brew, I enjoyed it very much! Perfect balance of a craft brew.

I had a twelve ounce draft of this at one of my favorite beer bars. Interestingly it was referred to as a doppel, where here it's called an Altbier. At 8.5% alcohol, I'd say that the former characterization is more accurate. It was a good beer that I enjoyed a lot but i'm not sure how often I'll go back to it.

Color was a deep red with some carbonation that quickly dissipated.

Aroma was of carmel, malt and some fruitiness. Not sweet, more along the lines of a dark fruit.

Flavor was also intense dark fruit mixed with carmel. A little sweet on the tongue but generally balanced.

Overall an interesting beer but not one I'll drink very often.

A - Pours a rich copper-red color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades slowly down to a thin layer leaving behind some nice lacing in the process.

S - Aroma is a mix of lightly toasted caramel malts and some sweet fruity esters. There is also some spices, bread and yeast in the background.

T - Starts off with a mix of rich sweet caramel malt and some light fruity flavors. Though the middle, some spices and yeast kick in a bit with some stronger fruit flavor (banana). The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts and a bit of bread and fruit tartness that linger nicely.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels very smooth and crisp. The slight sweetness and tartness work well, especially as they linger after the beer finishes.

D - Very drinkable. The beer feels nicely balanced and different. The fruit flavors really mix in nicely and provide a slight tartness that works well with the sweetness from the malt.

Appearance: dark amber in color with a 1" head that lingers around a while before falling to a surface foam.

Smell: bread and malt come through to the nose.

Taste: nice hearty malt base with bread, some caramel, a bit of earthy tones and a moderate hop bitterness. Alcohol is slightly noticeable.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Smooth from start to finish. Long malty aftertaste.

Overall: very enjoyable beer that went down fairly quickly. Great flavor and if you are in the mood for a hearty malty beer this fits the bill.

A: The beer is hazy light amber in color and poured with a thin beige head that left lacing on the surface.
S: There are moderate aromas of caramel in the nose along with notes of roasted malts and hints of fruit.
T: The overall taste is somewhat sweet and a bit complex with flavors of caramel and nuts with hints of dark fruits.
M: It feels medium-bodied and smooth on the palate with a light amount of carbonation.
O: Although the alcohol is mostly masked from the taste, this is a good beer to sip.
