This may have been my first oyster stout. I'm not sure if it was helped or hindered by the fact that it was on cask. Overall kind of interesting but I'm not sure I'd have it again.

Appearance is a very dark black with very little head but that was because of the cask conditioning.

Aroma was roasty. Some dark fruit but quite roasty with some coffee and chocolate notes.

Flavor was also very roasty. Nice sipper with a slippery characteristic.

Overall a pretty good beer but not my favorite style of stout.

Off-tap this beer was a solid black color with one finger of tan head. The retention was good as a collar and the lacing in scattered bands. The aroma was a strong note of baking cocoa with hints of coffee and roasted malt underneath. The flavors were highly enjoyable for me, a classic blend of roasted malt, sweet malt, chocolate, coffee, a little brine and a pleasantly bitter finish that lingered on my tongue. The mouthfeel was good, the body medium/full and the carbonation light. A solid but not-too-heavy beer and a good example of an Oyster Stout.

got to try this one over at john dory but they have it on and off over at the breslin too one of my favorite places to stop for some food on the way home from work

poured great rich black color and awesome tan and cream colored head the head lasted all the way down the glass with excellent lacing and nice foam all the way through

smelled of rich coffee burnt malts and little bit of salt in there too i wonder if that is because of the oysters

tasted just great and awesome big and strong but at the same time still has enough finesse and character to just mellow out and become a beer that you can just sip for hours i love this brew i ended up having 2 more after the first one

creamy great mouthfeel really just an outstanding beer

another winner from sixpoint highly recommended wish i could take home a growler

First had: on tap at the Pour House, Westmont, NJ

Poured a rich obsidian black, with a small, foamy, tan head that retained excellently throughout the session and left a nice lace on the glass. Roasty malts in the aroma and lots of smokey coffee. The taste was similar, with the coffee notes being the most noticeable. Secondary to that were rich dark malts, mild chocolate sensations, and just an implication of brine from the oyster shells. I probably wouldn't have known this was an oyster stout if it wasn't on the board. Smooth and full bodied, lusciously creamy; a quite easily drinkable stout.

Pours a Tootsie Roll brown in color with a massive creamy tan head that lasted a very long time and literally didn't move; a very impressive head that leaves outstanding foamy rings down the glass and lacing all over; a very impressive looking beer.

Smells of roasted malt, sea shells, light citrus hops, caramel, toasted grains and faint syrup; soft, yet tasty nose that is dominated by the malts.

Tastes like it smells with roasted malt and sweet malt, sea shells or salty sea food like clams, light citrus hops, caramel, toasted grains, cocoa, coffee, light syrup, and maybe some wheat or light yeast or some other earthy tone; tasty, just downright tasty and everything that a stout should be.

Mouthfeel is creamy and very smooth, with light carbonation, a medium body and a crisp dry finish that has a smoky malt flavor lingering.

I tried this thinking it would be a good novelty beer, and it wound up being a great beer. Highly recommend trying this if you can find it.

Notes: Sixpoint makes this beer exclusively for John Dory, and a friend of mine confirmed that they do indeed add oyster shells in the mix while making this beer. It's not too far from Penn Station, so stop by if you're in the neighborhood and have one, it's worth it.
