A great taste from the 6th point Redhook brewery...From the cask is authenic and brings out the true flavors in this brooklyn toughy.
A: Dark Chocolately, thin and not as thick as a Guiness
S: Sweet with a strong hoppy blast to the olfactory
T: Nice...a whisp of sweetness with a proud bitter finish
M: thin and smooth
D: would try this again...a nice switch to the typical thinck shakey stouts

16 oz can poured into pint glass.

This beer pours very close to black with a huge three to four finger darker than khaki head. The head stays for awhile as well. Lots of lacing down the side of the glass as it retreats. Lots of cocoa powder in my first smell. Faint aroma notes of chocolate and coffee. A little bit of dark fruits. Some orange citrus notes in there too.

The taste is very intriguing. Lots of bitter coffee on the front of the tounge. Sweet milk chocolate follows. Then you get some nice citrus hops in the finish. Mouth feel is pretty good as well, it's a little dry and kinda thin. Take those two out of the conversation and then this has a killer feel. I'm very happy with this purchase and even tho this beer is close to its "best by" date, it still has great flavor.

16oz can pours jet black with small dark brown lacing. Smells of caramel syrup. Slightly thin mouthfeel but definitely hits coffee, brown sugar and malty flavors. I am used to slight thicker stouts and higher alcohol content. Alcohol smell and taste are no where to be found. I would have rated it higher if it were a bit thicker. Will definitely be buying again

Poured from a 16 oz can into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a pitch black with a sizable brown head. Smells of coffee and chocolate, with slight hop hint. Tastes of chocolate and a tad of coffee and toffey, but a tad watery. Beer finishes real nice and is light/medium in body, great level of carbonation. Overall a very good beer.

A: Beautiful, pour. Thick dark tan head, with great retention, and lasting lacing. Great stout color.

Smell: So much going on: subtle sweet coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, hops, grass, raisins, barge, and barn.

T: Big earthiness, sort of triple arc between hops, malts and sweets. but never cloying and ever changing. Hints of citrus peel, candy, coal, apples, evergreens, and dry hay. Very happy with this original stout, almost a hoppy porter is how I would describe it.

M: Medium, good weight. nice finish. tickly hops.

Sun-washed barge and barn - two of my favorite images - in one deep dark beer. A new favorite.

Pounder Can > Pint Glass
A - Pours deep black with a thick two finger caramel head, great lacing.
S - Some light malt aroma, and a touch of smoke and some earthy hops, but the aroma overall is weak.
T - Roasted malts and a little smoke touch on them, but some really big earthy hop flavors in this as well with a good medium malt. Nice change of pace.
M - A little on the thin side, but nice bitterness and some roasts that linger.
O - This is off the path of traditional stouts with the good hop body, but the aroma seriously lacks and the mouthfeel isnt really one par, but some could consider that good if your not looking for a super thick stout. Would definitely have again.

16oz can, pours cola-like black, with a frothy beige head, great head retention, foamy lacing at the top of the glass. Aroma are roasted malt, caramely like cola, chocolate. Tastes are roasted barley, coffeeish, chocolate, finished with some piny hops and a bit of bitterness - a little more than I like in my stout. Mouth-feel is super creamy & smooth, while being nearly full bodied. Overall, I wasn't as crazy over this one as the bros, but it's a good stout with a good name.

Very dark brown and thick without reaching huge RIS-levels of viscosity, it definitely looks diesel. Topping it is a thick tan head that grows to about two fingers in height. The settling of this head is one finger. In other words, when it fades away or drops or however you'd reference it, it's still a full finger tall and never less. Lacing begins at the rim of the glass and forms a sheet that coats it the entire way down. I guess this one's a beauty AND a beast.
Roast comes out in the nose, yes, but even stronger are the chocolaty and charred notes as well as a pithy pine from the hops; it's definitely brewed in a modern American tradition, with a heavy hand on the hops for a stout. It's a little nondescript and surprisingly subtle given what I've seen, but hopefully some of that will open up.
The pith and pine are actually seemingly the strongest flavors. A bit of citrus peel comes out in the bitterness as well. Char backs off to keep the bitterness at an even keel, a good call since there's little sweetness. There's a heavy dryness, in fact, which in combining with a bit of woodiness gives this a more literally piney flavor. Some dry bread crusts speak to the malt presence. This is well done, especially considering how unbalanced it has potential to be. I do wish it was sweeter, even if just a little.
The body's not huge and thick, though it is full. At first it seems to sit on the border of what could be a richness that it just misses. It's a little more heavily carbonated than might be expected in a stout, but that drops off nicely. What remains is a surprisingly creamy, rich smoothness.

Poured from a 16oz can into a pint glass

A: Opaque brown with little head and virtually no lacing

S: Toasty malt, caramel and alcohol (surprising, given the <7 ABV)

T: Toasted grain and some coffee and chocolate overtones. A nice hoppy bite obscures the sweetness that can ruin some stouts for me.

M: A nice clean tingle on the tongue. Perfect level of carbonation. None of the syrupy/oily feel of many stouts.

O: I've never been much of a fan of Sixpoint. Most of their brews either bore me or strike me as failed experiments. The Crisp and Bengali Tiger are both interesting, but both seem to fall well outside the norms for their labeled styles and are not something I have a great desire to drink regularly. This is the first beer from them I'd buy again fairly eagerly. My only quibble (see above) is with calling this a stout. Diesel is a nice, clean, refreshing beer that to my palate is much more in line with a porter or, even more so, a brown ale. But no matter what they choose to call it, this is a nice, very drinkable beer that I will definitely be buying again.

I thought this was outstanding, as much of a brown ale as it is a stout in a lot of ways. pours a muted chocolate brown color, almost dusty looking, paler, and fairly full bodied. the head is off white and rising, decent retention. I love the nose, its a perfect mix of coffee and chocolate, subtle on both counts, but extremely well balanced. the flavor take this balance even further, I think the oatmeal is the perfect equalizer between chocolate and coffee, it works well with both and brings the whole thing to life. I wish this was available here all the time because I would be on it for sure. ashy sweet finish, just right. mellow carbonation and a full body makes this feel real velvety going down. an exceptional brew overall. in a lot of ways too drinkable to be a stout, but perhaps too rich and full bodied to be a brown ale. it sort of blurs the line of distinction, but im happy with this undefinable brew.

A - black with a huge, frothy, dense, brown head that has tremendous retention

S - big piney hops, some faint chocolate, faint coffee

T - roasted malts, coffee, faint chocolate, big earthiness, huge piney hop finish

M - medium bodied though thin at times, well carbonated

I have to say that this is not what I expected from a stout. This is an incredibly hoppy and bitter with secondary notes of roasted malts, I really enjoy this. To some peoples standards this could be construed as a black IPA. I'll have another for sure.

A-Black in the glass, but a clear reddish brown when pouring, one finger off white head.

S-Roasted malt, some coffee and chocolate but mostly bland.

T-Roasted malts, some burnt notes, coffee and chocolate.

M-Light not much carbonation and a tad watery,

O-A let down from the other Sixpoint beers I've hand. flavors are weak.

A-very dark brown with light chestnut highlights and about three fingers worth of tan head

S-roasted malt, dark coffee, and bitter hops

T-starts with roasted malt and dark coffee, very light chocolate, and then finishes with lots of bitter hops

M-medium body, very smooth, medium carbonation

Overall an interesting beer, but I'm not sure what I think about it. Good roasted flavors but a little too hop heavy for my taste.

This comes in a dark black color with a decent ahead.

The aroma has a hop pineyness with maltiness and chocolate.

This beer is really strange. It has stout/porter characteristics, but then a huge hop bite punches you in the middle. It's a lovely flavor that really stands out. The roasted malt, coffee, and bitter chocolate are the dominant flavors however.

The mouthfeel is great. I would compare it most to a porter. I would guess it was such instead of a "stout."

The hoppiness really stands out for me with this beer. I highly recommend it. It's delicious.

Tall boy can in a pint glass. Looks very nice, deep brown and lingering foam. Nutty flavor, a good amount of bitterness, mostly in the aftertaste. Maybe a hint of crusty bread. Aqueous mouth feel. Tastes more like a hopped-up porter, without any of the roasty-sweet complexity that I associate with stout. Or maybe it is more accurately described as a play on UK/Irish stout, since it is quite dry. Very easy to drink but nothing too special.

On-tap at Cask Republic.

A: Black body with reddish-brown highlights; one-inch head of creamy tan froth. Great retention, good lace. Excellent.

S: Lots of roast. Coffee, dark chocolate, char. Some bitter, earthy hops. Straightforward and intense, if a bit astringent.

T: Spicier than the nose, with chili-pepper-spiked chocolate being the dominant flavor. Intense char combines with substantial hops bitterness on the finish to close things out rather harshly, though. Burnt coffee aftertaste. Acrid. Promising, but ultimately flawed.

M: Tons of creamy carbonation helps hide the fact that the body is actually a little on the thin side. Not unpleasant.

O: Not a bad Stout by any means, but it would have been better with a bit more malt sweetness to balance out the astringent roastiness.

ST: 1 pint poured into a pint glass.

A: Dark brown (almost black) with red tints at the bottom, opaque, but carbonation can be seen sneaking up the sides of the glass. A nice thick off-white head, sits on top like root beer float foam.

S: Chocolate nubs, coffee, roasted malt, slight caramel, toffee.

T: Bitter chocolate, roasted malts, burnt coffee, some astringency from hops, some fig and a long and lingering finish.

M: Medium to heavy and dry.

O: Bitter rather than sweet, Diesel is an apt name for this heavier more burnt stout. Diesel is heavy on the roasted and burnt qualities of roasted malt. As it warms, it loses some of the astringency and gains more caramel sweetness.

Roasted barley and high (American) hop levels are usually a clash for me. But as the American Stout style perscribes this balance, I often offer forgiveness with this dichotomy. But no such concessions are needed here as the beer's bold "true-malt" flavor separates the roast from citrus for a smooth procession across the palate.

Always taken back by a black ale pouring from a can, I simply can't get enough of this surprise. It's highly viscous darkness can be considered thick and oily to the eye. A seriously dense coat of foam tops the beer with a spongy texture that seems as dense as the beer itself. Its onyx-like sheen suggests clarity despite its opaque ominous pour.

Surprisingly, hops command the initial aromas with bright and zesty citrus, coupled with pine needles and fresh-mowed grass. Lurking closely behind the stern scent of French-press coffee, nuts, and chocolate. Buried deep with in the scent is the hearty sweet aroma of caramel and heavy whipping cream type of malt character.

Rich and creamy taste of malts kick off the taste- Smooth cold-pressed coffee taste is boldly roasted and link up with bittersweet chocolates, roasted walnut, and burnt toast. The long middle palate allows the char to settle and the creamy sweetness of caramel and whipped cream to grow. It buffers the char from the hops to come. Finishing with resinous hop bitterness, the hops resist balance in taste but crisply bitters the beer to finish.

Very full in texture, the beer's creamy carbonation and residual sweetness keeps the beer structurally sound until very deep in the taste where the malts fade, the carbonation recedes, and the alcohol rises to assist the hops with a malty-dry closure.

Diesel is a fortified American Stout that has absolutely no problem placing hops in the forefront. Even though there may seem to be two beers living in this imperial can, its schizophrenic demeanor works in this case.

"Keep refrigerated, dry hopped with fresh hops." Sounds marvelous and promising.
I always enjoy a can of these beers, I never know what style it is when I buy it or open it. A, always surprised when I review it.

Oh an American stout... Smells like a CDA or a BIPA whatever designation they go by these days.

Opaque black pour with ruby highlights around the edges. Two finger creamy light beige head with sticky lacing around the glass.

A wonderful hop wallop followed by dark roasted coffee and some nice subtle bittersweet chocolate. There is some vanilla and caramel in there somewhere. Very non-traditional and excellent.

Dark roasted coffee, bitter dark chocolate, bitter pine, sweet brown sugar, fresh baked cookies. This is truly something other worldly. Everything just goes together so well.

Medium body, good carbonation, sticky on the lips.

This was totally unexpected. I started buying random cans from Sixpoint every time I head to Buffalo. I don't read the reviews before and leave the surprise until the end. I think this one is my personal favorite. Will definitely be getting much more of these next visit South.

Picked up a growler of this from my favorite beer and wine shop, hop city and really enjoyed this stout. The appearance is a dark brown and nice lacing on the glass. The nose is a combination of sourness, hops, dark fruit and malts and the dark fruit come through more as it warms. This stout is a combined malty hoppy mix. Doesn't follow the nose in my opinion. The mouthfeel is medium and overall I've enjoyed this stout. Not the best stout but will have again.

Very dark brown. It doesn't let any light through. Small tan head never goes away completely.
Smells like toasted bread, very easy on the smokiness. Taste is on the easier side of the roastiness a s well. Starts with a piney hop bite and finishes with the lightly roasted taste. Very creamy and smooth. Overall another very good beer from Sixpoint.

Sixpoint - Diesel - 1pt fl oz can

Look - Pours black as night with a glorious foamy mocha head. Good lacing. Can't tell if its carbonated or filtered/unfiltered due to how dark it is. Gently shaking this results in waves of badassery.

Smell - Smooth dark malts with a slight bite, hops on top. I am actually surprised at the hop level here, did not expect that much in a stout.

Taste - Heavy coffee malts followed by a wave of (pine-laced) hops.

Mouthfeel - Leaves some slight hop on the palette, but more malty at this point. Classic stout feel but quite drinkable. Hops resting on the palette may deter some avid stout drinkers.

Overall - This is a hearty, creamy stout with a unique hop finish. I can see how classic stout lovers may say "meh" to the hop integration here, but I didn't mind it.

A: Pours a very dark burgundy color. The head is a rather attractive three finger mocha shade featuring excellent texturing. The lacing this leaves behind is very impressive, as well.

S: The can didn't lie about this having a strong influence of piny hops. While a backbone of chocolate, coffee, and molasses hides underneath, the level of hoppiness is almost overpowering for the style.

T: At first, it's a bit chocolaty and sweet...and the the hops descend like a hammer. Okay, so the hop profile isn't that bold, but the main problem is that the stout base can't hold up to it. Waves of black pepper, pine, herbs, and mint wash over everything in the midtaste, before finally giving the dark malts *slight* breathing room in the finish. Not very balanced at all, but at least the acidic nature of the hop/dark malt clash is kept in check somewhat.

M: Thin and lacking in creaminess. It's dry much in the same way an IPA is dry. So not only does this taste like a IPA (with a bit of chocolate), this also drinks like an IPA.

O: Meh. It's rare when a hoppy stout/porter works for me, especially when it requires hard work to discover the darker characteristics of it. This one is so average it hurts - but on the positive side, the can is really damn nice looking.

Poured into a pint. Beautiful appearance and outstanding mouthfeel. Unfortunately, I found the taste, especially at first, to be very metallic. After resting in my glass for a few minutes, that metal taste seemed to dissipate somewhat and start to show some more roasted flavors that were initially overpowered. Kind of a strange experience, so I'd like to at least give it another try down the road.

A: A dark brown body with a mocha brown/white one finger head.

S: A very muted aroma. It is difficult to smell anything at all. There is a stale lager aroma with subtle chocolates.

T: There is a bitter harshness to the flavor with some chocolate and coffee flavors present as well.

M: The body is very light but there is fantastic carbonation.

O: This is good but not great. Worth trying if you can find it.
