Poured from a Nano Keg into my Brooklyn Brewery ( sorry Sixpoint ) Nonic Pint Glass
Appearance - pours an inky black with a viscosity that screams stout. A very active brownish head that is very active and persists throughout. An active head forms from the bottom of the glass in a typical stout fashion.
Smell - a really, roasty malty, hoppy, aroma. The aroma is very pleasant and peaty, and has an earthy quality. The overall aroma is very rich. This does not scream chocolate, coffee, but does have the richness and undertones of both.
Taste - a Very dark malty, hoppy stout. The taste is malty, and surprises you with a very strong hop profile. The hops kick in and add depth to the stout. A creaminess is interrupted with the hop kick.
Mouthfeel - a very carbonated, yet smooth stout. This is not a creamy milk stout, but a tightly carbonated stout that exerts creaminess, but still bites the back of the palette
Overall - this is one of the truly great American Stouts. it has a great hop profile, that sets this apart from other stouts. The body is rich, creamy but with a hoppy bite. If you like stouts, try it, if you like hops try it. A great combination of a rich, malty stout with an exciting hoppiness.

I think I would have rated this one higher, if I was smart enough to read about the beer. Diesel, Black Can - no brainer - Its a Stout!
So, I was expecting an awesome stout.
I guess at my first pour, I should have realized this was something different. I did enjoy this beer, but I was looking for a Stout, so when I found a Stout/IPA I was totally taken by surprise. At first, I said, "This is not a full stout", then on second sip, I am saying to myself IPA
So the combination of both Stout and IPA is interesting... Just was not something I was expecting

Dark brown pour, appears black in the glass with a reddish glint in the light. Sticky halo of tan lace, creamy head of foam that has some lasting power.
Chocolatey aroma, light coffee, light piney hops.
Smooth and medium bodied, creamy feel, ample hop bitterness, green and pine laden. Lightly roasty, mint and ashy wisps of char, not sweet, finishes dry. Pretty nice rendition of a Black IPA, or hoppy Stout, depending who you ask.

16 ounce can, best before May 25, 2013 printed on bottom of the can. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch frothy tan head. Head retention is excellent, and there's a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, piney hops, bittersweet chocolate, and a bit of coffee. Taste is mostly like the aroma, full of roasted malt, pine hops, bittersweet chocolate, burnt/charred malt and some coffee. This is definitely one of the hoppier stouts I've had lately, it could easily fall into the Black IPA category. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and creamy with good carbonation. I think this is a good brew, I'd buy it again at $8.99 a 4-pack.

Poured from can into a Sam Adams pint, best before date of 5/25/13.
A - Pretty great, deep brown with a huge khaki head full of cascading bubbles, dies down fairly quickly but leaves a nice cap and pretty good lacing
S - somewhat subdued, molasses, chocolate, herbal hops
T - lots of licorice, molasses, and bakers chocolate, has some dark coffee notes, a little mint, some earthy tones in the finish, sweetness is well balanced by some pretty strong bittering hops
M - medium-full, amply carbonated, lingering hop oil on the tongue
O - this is good, full bodied and rich, but relatively quaffable. looks stunning in the glass too. could use a little more complexity and the nose is kind of disappointing, still well worth the money.

Best Before 25MAY2013
A: Pours a near pitch black (very dark brown/mahogany when held to the light) with a fingers worth of tan head
S: Surprisingly hoppy (mostly piney), with a good amount of roasted malts. A light hint of chocolate as well
T: Again, surprisingly hoppy with more of a citrus flavor this time around, with light pine. Roasted malts come through after the initial hit of citrus and pine. Get some dark chocolate and coffee-like roastiness with an ashy character. Finishes lightly bitter and astringent
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Oily and ashy at the same time (kind of odd, but it works)
O: I can't be the only one that would possibly classify this under an ABA, would I? Definite stout characteristics, but there are just as many IPA characteristics in there as well. Tasty brew, regardless. Definitely worthy of a purchase at some time this winter

I don't know what it is about stout in cans, but I can't seem to resist them. Grabber a four pack of these tall boys, time to give it a review. Poured into Sam Adams perfect pint. Appearence is a very dark brown/black with brown edges. Tan head forms upon pour and dissipates to a thin layer. The aroma meets the nose with a profile that is both heavily roasted with a fair amount of earthy hops present up front. The two profiles, roasty and hoppy seem to have a nice balance where one never dominates the other. The taste is very similar. Initially, you get a green earthy hop presence with notes of pine resin. This gives way to dry cocoa and coffee character. A touch of sweetness shines through and then finishes with a crisp hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat on the thin side with mild carbonation. Overall, this is a nice hoppy American stout. This could easily be classified as an American Black Ale, either way, it drinks nicely.

Pours a cola color, becoming opaque in the glass with ruby highlights and a dense held inch milk chocolate head that dissipates slowly, leaving sheets of lacing.
Roast malt and pine are evident at a distance. Chocolate and soy accompany light citrus notes in the aroma. Malted milk balls and resin surface as it warms.
Flavor is dominated by roast malt, which quickly gives way to an underlying citrus flavor, finishing fairly bitter and piney. It's a battle of charred breadcrust and grapefruit tartness, with initially subdued resin and pine emerging late, along with chocolate.
Body is on the light side, with fairly high carbonation. There's noticeable alcohol warmth.
An interesting combination of flavors, but it's somewhat two-note. Has the roast characte of a stout and the citrus profile of an ipa. Not a standout, though.

Poured from can into a stout glass. It pours same color as the can a very nice dark brown w off white head and good lacing. Nose catches me w spice right away. Notes of pine are heavy followed by roast and toast and sweetness. Taste is hop-forward at first w a very piney resinous taste followed by roast and sweetness w a lipsmacking finish and lingering bittersweetness. My first sip I say "leave it to SixPoint to dry hop a stout!" This is beautiful. Definitely unexpected and one of my favorite beers after one can.

16 oz can, into a USGBC Massachusetts pint glass.
A - Inky black and opaque. As a driver of a diesel car, I know that diesel is actually pretty light brown. Still, I get the analogy. Foamy head persists in hillocks of foam as the glass settles down.
S - malty, faint alcohol smell
T - very bitter - a lot more hop in the taste than in the smell. Burnt toast. Faint soapy-ness. Astringent.
M- nice fizz, but not so chewy, a little thin even. Again, the diesel analogy fails here - should be thicker
O - As stouts go, this is not my favorite. Bitterness and sweetness are not well balanced. Happy to be drinking it on a fall Sunday afternoon, but not sure I'd buy it again. + points for can design, which is beautiful. .

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and roasted malt, as well as a little bit of pine. The flavor is more of the same. The bitter chocolate notes come through quite strongly, as does some roasted malt, earth and pine. There is also a hint of burnt malt, which goes well with the other aspects. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

We pop the tab and pour a brew of dark roasted coffee coloring. It holds a one and a half finger head of massive tan bubbles. This shows decent retention, leaving spotty, chunky lacing down the sides of the glasses. A big film of fatty bubbles sits in broken aggregates across the liquid’s surface. Carbonation appears medium, there is moderate haze, and large chunks of yeast float about the drink. The aroma is sticky sweet with milk chocolate and fiery roasted malts. There is added sweetness of heavy creamer, warm butters, and a malted milk ball quality of chalk and sugars. Hints of caramel and gingerbread spice come with warmth, with lighter citric hops, and faint booziness wafting off the top. Our first impression is that the flavoring is comparatively mild, and less sweet than the nose had suggested. As we sip, the flavoring opens with steely malts, syrupy fig sweetness, additional coin of yeast, and charred malts. The middle bitters further, peaking with medicinal phenols, smokiness, orange peel of citric hop, and darkened chocolate malts. The finish is significantly watered through, with more soapy and piney hops, chalky grain, sugary chocolate syrup, and blended depth of char and smoke. The aftertaste breathes bitterly of chalky cacao, soured chocolate malts, light vinegars, and bittering piney hop bite. The body is lighter to medium, and the carbonation is medium. The mouth is left significantly dried, following a light and cooling coating. There is nice slurp, smack, cream, and froth to each sip, leaving the mouth happy. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks easily.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the aroma. There was a nice sweetness, with a warming creaminess, almost like a milk stout, which made for a very inviting start. The flavoring, however, didn’t match up. While there was nice bitterness, and chocolatey, malty dryness, the end of the sip felt rather watered down. The flavoring did show a bit more sweetness with warmth. This, coupled with the lighter body, made for a less than perfect brew.

A - Pours with one finger of off white foam on top of a completely black body. The foam settles fairly rapidly and leaves good lace in its wake.
S - Rich, dark chocolate with smoke and espresso.
T - Nutty carmel up front with smoky espressos. More of the same in the middle with a finish of unsweetened chocolate, caraway seeds, and coffee.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.
D - Very good, it isn't overly complex, but it has a great combination of dry, roasted malt favors that make for an excellent American stout.

Pours black with a thick, creamy tan head. Scattered lacing sticks.
The smell is of pine resin with roasted coffee.
The taste is of licorice, sweet dark maltiness, and earthy pine. Resiny and sweet with a strong hop presence that balances it out, especially in the finish. Alcohol warmth certainly noticeable.
It is full-bodied but not too thick.
This is a nice, hoppy stout. The hops and roasted malt are both strong, but do not clash. An enjoyable, strong brew!

Pours a deep ruby (almost black) in color with a full tan head. The head did not last very long.
The aroma is a rich chocolate flavor. A faint aroma of moss is also present.
The flavor is full and a bit bitter, like coffee. Though the beer says it is dry-hopped I don't get a hoppiness up front. The mouthfeel shows as bitter, almost like an Irish stout. The beer finishes well enough, unfortunately I could only take a couple of these before moving onto something else.

Pours deep black in color. A deep tan head sits on top leaving good lacing around the glass.
Aroma, you get get some roasted malts coffee(a little)hints of chocolate. The usual fair.
There is a desent hop profile too that I like being of the earthy floral and minty variety.
It bridges the gap between imp. stout and everyday stouts.
Drinks pretty smooth and has a semi dry finish.
I liked this ale has good depth of flavor and excellent drinkablity.

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with some hints of dark brown when held up to the light. The beer has a two finger tall creamy mocha head that reduces to a quarter finger tall covering over the entire surface of the beer with a small thicker patch near the center and a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of dark roasted malts, citrus hops, and lighter notes of bittersweet chocolate.
T: There are strong flavors of roasted malts and citrus hops with moderate notes of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. There is a moderate amount of bitterness that lingers through the finish.
M: Slightly lighter than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Dry in the finish.
O: With the citrus hop flavors and the bitterness, this seems almost more of a Black IPA than an American Stout. I enjoyed this beer and it was easier than some other stouts to drink because it feels lighter. Certainly a beer I would have again and definitely enjoyable.

Pounder can poured into an imperial pint glass.
The color was a very dark brown, pretty much black. The dark brown poked out around the edges when the light would hit it. Formed a frothy, two finger brown head. Left some very nice looking lacing.
Pretty piney and hoppy at first whiff. Followed by roasted malts and some chocolate.
Taste was very similar to the aroma, but the chocolate came out a bit more. Some smokiness comes out as well. The finish was pretty messy with a harsh twang.
Full bodied and pretty dry.
The beer looked awesome and was pretty enjoyable, up until about two-thirds in. It just became too harsh and was a struggle to get through for that final bit.

I like these 16oz cans; I get to use my imperial pint glass. This beer was a very dark brown, almost black, color. There was a moderately-sized tan head that left a bit of lace.

Poured from can into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with a large billowing tan head. The head has large carbonation bubbles entrapped within. It has great retention and once faded gives a very nice level of lacing.
Smell –The aroma is big of dark roasted malts mixed with a pine and earthy hop aroma.
Taste – A taste of dry dark malts great the tongue. While alone at first they are quickly meet with bitter hop flavors. The hops are predominantly of a pine flavor with hints of earthiness mixed within. These flavors persist the whole rest of the taste and at the end leave a bitter dry aftertaste on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body was very creamy; much creamier then I would have anticipated from the strength and style. Its carbonation was a little on the low side. While the creaminess was nice for the roasty flavors it could have used a tad higher carbonation as it would have quieted some of the bitter hop flavors quite well.
Overall – Not really my kind of brew. The roast and hop didn’t meld as well as some other dark IPA’s and the mouthfeel was a little off for the flavor profile. It was roast and bitter through and through.
