On nitro-tap at Prime 16. Pours a pitch black color with over an inch of frothy, tan head. Some lacing. Aroma is a sweet chocolate and coffee mix with some smokey roasted malts. The taste has more of the sweet oatmeal than in the aroma. Light and sweet coffee as well as chocolate. A bit of smoke towards the finish. Silky, creamy mouthfeel thanks to the nitro. Damn drinkable. This beer really shines on the nitro tap. Overall, worth seeking out.

This brew was served from the tap at Rattle N’ Hum in New York, NY. It arrived in a Rogue pint glass, showing a jet black brew, with flecks of ruby throughout when held to the light. This beer looked syrupy. It held a one finger head of medium brown bubbles, leaving sticky, spidery lacing after retaining nicely. Carbonation appeared average, and no haze or sediment was noted. The aroma opened with mustiness, grainy sourness, grassy hops, and chocolatey char and smoke. Light vinegar came out with warmth, along with a steely vanilla vine and raw coffee bean. Our first impression was that the flavoring was pretty mild, but the smoky malt base was nice. As we sipped, bitter roasted grain, sour lactics, light molasses, and huge smoke started things off. The middle peaked with smokiness, and a bittering bite of roasty grain. We finished with grassy hops and sour grain, while the smoky, chalky, drying chocolate malts and molasses continued from before. The aftertaste breathed of drying grain, more earthy hops, and a charred/smoky meat or fish character. The body was medium to full, and the carbonation was lower. Bone dry astringency streaked along the mouth, followed by a light smoke and coating booze to cut the dryness. There was a significant warming feel, more and more with each sip. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank easily.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the nice coloring, and thick smoke to the malts. Negatively, however, the nose was a little light, and the flavoring, other than that wild smoke, was too. We were hoping for a better balance, and more solid flavors to mix with such a strong component as the smoke.

An exceptional looking stout; jet black, with a smooth and fluffy two-finger tan head that has tremendous retention. Lacing is also excellent; this almost looks like it’s on nitro. Aroma is good but somewhat mild; lightly roasty, with hints of chocolate and coffee.
A delicious tasting beer overall; some semi-sweet chocolate mixes with coffee and roasty malt; good oatmeal presence; moderately sweet with the faintest kiss of hops mostly noticed in the somewhat bitter finish. Very well rounded flavor and mouthfeel, which is silky smooth, medium-bodied, and medium-to-low on the carbonation side. Again, there is almost a nitro feel to this beer even from a regular tap. One of my favorite Sixpoint offerings to be sure, very impressive.

Had on tap at Specific Gravity. Review from notes.
A: Otis is a hazy brown color, almost chocolate in color, with a small tan head with very little retention and minimal lacing.
S: Not a ton going on in the aroma, but there is some roasted malt, a little bit of coffee, chocolate, and a little cream.
T; Similar to the aroma with some roasted malt, creamy chocolate, a little bit of oat, and a hint of coffee.
M: On the thinner side with a bitter finish.
O: Not bad, but another beer from Sixpoint that I would probably pass on the next time around.

10oz straight from a firkin
A-pitch black, a few ruby highlights on the edges. Small tan head.
S- roasted malts, cocoa, oatmeal, and Sixpoint yeast.
T- cocoa, French roast coffee, a bit of black licorice, brown sugar and oatmeal.
M- medium to full bodied, a bit slick and creamy from the oatmeal. Dry on the finish, which I don't really dig all that much.
O- it's Sixpoint, so it's quite good, but I'll still take Diesel.

Served on tap at Rattle N Hum in New York, NY
A: Pours an extremely dark brown to black with a thick light beige head that reduces by about 50% but the remainder is retained. Significant lacing is observed.
S: Very light aroma with just some subtle hints of roasted malts.
T: The flavor is much more intense than the smell with lots of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, and some oats. Not as sweet as I generally expect from an oatmeal stout but I was pleased by that and really enjoyed the taste of this beer.
M: Light to medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly watery/thin.
O: Good but not great, a little too thin of a stout for my preferences. Very easy to drink and quite sessionable but needs a fuller body.

On tap at Rattle N Hum, poured into an imperial pint glass. Deep dark almost black hue with purple on the edges capped by a creamy off white head with excellent retention. Nose is light with hint of roastiness. Taste is full of roast malt, light flower balances nicely. Mouth is light and creamy. Yeah!

From 12/17/11 notes. Had on tap at Rustico in Ballston, VA. Served in a pint glass.
a - Pours a dark brown color with one inch of dark tan head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of cream, oats, chocolate, roasted malts, and vanilla. Very nice and sweet, but not overly sweet. I like it.
t - Tastes of roasted malts, sweet chocolate, bready malts, oats, vanilla, cream, and light toasted malts. Some more chocolate than the nose and a little bit sweeter, I'm a fan.
m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. Insanely smooth body and very easy to drink.
o - Overall a very good oatmeal stout. I know they are supposed to be different, but I think this is a ton better than their Diesel stout; I hope they can this one as well. Reminds me of a good sweet stout, as it has a lot of sweet chocolate and vanilla to it. Would like to have it again.

Had on-tap at Rattle N Hum in NYC on 11/17/11.
Review taken from notes.
This beer pours a very dark brown color, almost black. It has a nice finger of creamy tan head on it. The head has good retention, and it leaves behind some scattered lace on the glass. The nose is of dark roasted malt, chocolate, toffee, light hops, and cream. It smells really nice. The taste follows the nose pretty well. There is a nice roasted malt flavor and bitterness. There are some flavors of coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, and mild hop flavors. The finish leaves some lingering roasted malt and hop bitterness on the palate. This has a medium body, that is leaning toward full, and good carbonation. It goes down smooth, and it has a really creamy feel to it. There is some sweetness and a nice roasted malt bitterness that balances it out. The roasted bitterness lingerings on the tongue for a bit. This has good drinkability. It has really nice flavor and great feel to it. It is quite creamy. Overall, I really enjoyed this beer, and I would buy it again. I recommend trying it out if you come across it. Cheers.

Poured absolutely pitch black with a massive off-white 'cascade effect' head from the nitro tap. Some light penetration along the sides at the bottom of the glass. Good head retention.
Aroma is a nice blend of malt, bready yeast, flaked oats, sweet chocolate with hints of roasted coffee. The aroma became so much better as the beer warmed up.
The taste upfront is slightly sweet, with hints of bitterness becoming evident in the middle. The finish is a nice balance of sweet and bitter and is almost dry. The bitterness lingers just a little longer than the sweetness in the finish.
Almost full bodied and coats the palate really well. There was just that hint of sharpness on the palate, which I am assuming is due to the nitrogen. Makes me wonder how much more silkier and full bodied it would be if I had a regular version of this stout.
Left a ton of lacing all the way down to the bottom of the glass. Good mouthfeel and is very easy to drink. I can easily see myself have more than a couple of these in a sitting.
Definitely a winner from Sixpoint, and is highly recommended.

had this stuff at public house 49 in patchogue - the funny thing about it was that it tasted EXACTLY like blue point oatmeal stout which is brewed just down the street
i highly recommend it! because it's low in alcohol content, i had 3 of them and didnt feel any pain
i see that its brewed in beautiful downtown brooklyn by 6 points brewing co - i'm gonna have to take me a trip over there real soon

A - Served with a black body that showcased a two finger, tan head...the head slowly crept to a solid one finger cap...chunks of lacing were left behind
S - A nice roast presence was coming across giving off coffee and chocolate hints...the nitro softened the nose a bit, but the aromas could still be picked out
T - All of the components play well together...the chocolate flavors come across as sweet, milk chocolate but also leave hints of roasted, dark chocolate...the rolled oats smooth things out, while the sweet caramel adds the sweet level...there is a faint hop presence at the end that ties everything together
M - Medium bodied...smooth, slightly creamy, coats the palate
O - This Oatmeal Stout took nicely to the nitro...all the classic flavors were present and represented nicely...a solid Oatmeal Stout

Pours a black color with a huge pillowy toasted khaki colored head that just didn't want to settle. Beauty.
The aroma is quite hoppy. Nice blend of floral and grassy hops. The mellow oatmeal malt lets the hops showcase themselves.
The flavor is a good mix of roast and hops. There is a light roast and smooth nature to the oatmeal malt. Perhaps a hint of coffee. The hopo profile is quite fresh and grassy also brings a touch of lime.
The feel is light for a stout and it has light carbonation which lead to bit of a lackluster feel. Roast and hop bitterness in the finish.
A nice hoppy stout. The hops dominate over the malt in this one.

On nitro-tap 10/28/2011 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a large dense beige head that fades very slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains roasted malts, oats, milk chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit and vanilla.
T: The taste starts out with a hearty roasted malt character followed by creamy flavors of oats, milk chocolate and vanilla. The hops presence is decent for the style and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a good flavorful stout to drink for a while.

A- nitro-pour into a pint glass. milk chocolate head about two fingers worth. Nice lace. Sticky.
S- very soft aroma, light chocolate, light roast, light cream, very subtle.
T- again, it is a delicate tasting stout. Small flavors like the nose, a milky sweet aftertaste. Hops hit at the end too. It's unbelievably creamy thanks to the nitro.
O- Nothing mind blowing but I got to say, despite its mellowness, I'm actually really digging this.

i do love stouts so here is my chance! :-)
this was one of the last draft i was able to sample from sixpoint before they were gone and this one was available on a nitro pour
i don't know if the nitro pour made it worse but my beer did not shine the way the other did
don't get me wrong it was still a good beer and the aroma and flavor were pretty nice, but the nitro gas seemed to detract from this beer a bit
i hope maybe i can try this one on a regular co2 pour one day because that might change my mind! :-)

Poured on nitro tap at Meridian pint into a shaker pint glass.
A nice light cream coffee head almost like like cocoa, nitro bubbled tight. Sits on a dark walnut classic body with some very impressive circular lacing.
Nose is a mild roast coffee, very small chocolate, kind of muted. Creamy sense and pleasant though however but very small.
Taste is a good sense of what comes from the nose. Muted creamy roast and textured malts with some mild chocolate. Somewhat juicy and creamy texture which is interesting but with weak coffee pot finish and a noticeable but mild hop finish.
Overall it is interesting but needs more of a malt backbone I think. Not sure about how I feel about the hop angle in this, I am not sure I feel it fits or melds well. Don't see myself gravitating towards it or really desiring it.

Enjoyed at BarCade in Jersery City, NJ.
A- Black. Almost Black Hole Black with a almost two finger dark tan Head. Truly a beauty, great retention and amazing lacing.
S- Oatmeal, coffee, chocolate, and dark things that live in the shadows, but what a hoppy nose for an IRS. Just so unexpected but quite welcomed.
T- Dark malt and a certain cream aspect are the forefront but a dy hop finish. Truly unique. I dont think Ive had a stout with this much of a hop character at the end. I truly loved it.
M- Nitro pours makes all the difference for stouts. Its just the perfect mouthfeel. I truly believe all stouts should be Nitro. I know its a pain in the ass for bartenders but it truly elevates the beer to a new level.
O- Outstanding. Great stout with a unexpected hop character but the guys from Sixpoint have a pretty unique beer here and I absolutely loved it.
Taken from memory and notes. Enjoyed on 8/1/11

A: black, tons of thick khaki head. Nitro pour yields the best head consistency and overall viscosity. Huge, thick rings of tan lace. Gorgeous!
S: unexpectedly hoppy in the nose. Chocolate malts are there but hard to pick up. Any hints of other aromas are far too faint to perceive.
T: dark and roasty malts greet you first, then a creamy milky sweetness takes over before the hops bring it home for a dry finish. Surprisingly hoppy for a stout, but it works.
M: nitro + stout = perfection. Huge, silky body with a 100% chance of creaminess. Bliss!
O: a solid stout with a unique twist. I'll say it again: *all* stouts should be served on nitro. Props to Spitzer's for having 3 nitro taps!

I had a sixteen ounce glass of this recently at on of my local pubs. I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. It was before noon, it was oatmeal stout, so I kinda felt that I had no choice but to have it.
The color is very dark with a slightly red hue. Carbonation was a little low but was also very dark.
Aroma was somewhat weak but nice. Roasty, toasty with some general malt aroma as well.
Flavor was good, not great. Again, a little light.
Overall a very easy to drink beer, just not so interesting.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color (only traces of amber are visible near the edge of the glass when it is held up to the light). It poured with a finger and a half high creamy beige head that has excellent retention properties; it slowly died down but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are light aromas of roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is well balanced and has flavors of coffee beans, toasted oats and roasted malts. There is a slight amount of bitterness in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied, smooth and creamy on the palate with a moderate to high amount of carbonation. There is some dryness in the finish.
D: The beer is rather easy to drink and is quite sessionable for the style because it isn't very heavy.

Draft at Rembrandt's
Pours a deep, dark chestnut brown color that appears black and completely opaque in the glass with the faintest of mahogany edges when held to light. Frothy, pillowy two finger light beige head with excellent retention, barely fading into a lasting cap that leaves streaks and splotches of soapy lacing behind.
Slightly roasted dark malt aroma that is kind of bland with hints of cocoa, toast, oatmeal and coffee rinds.
Medium bodied with a nice balance of roasted, dry and sweet flavors. Lots of roasted malt up front with hints of coffee bean, chocolate and a prominent oatmeal character. There's a slight lactic cream presence mid-palate that provides nice balance and there is some more bittersweet dark chocolate toward the dry, roasted finish.

Had this on tap at Rattle N' Hum after having their IPA the night before. I was told they just changed the keg when I ordered.
Color was a nice milk chocolate brown and the smell was pleasant.
Upon first sip I thought, "Oats, thick, pretty good." Unfortunately, then came the bitterness. I must say that I am a fan of all that is dark beer and stouts but this was the most bitter beer I have ever encountered. There was no hop character, just bitter. I sincerely hope I just got a bad beer because I did enjoy their IPA. Hopefully I'll get to have a proper pint of it later on.
(Probably didn't help that Rattle N' Hum had it listed as a Sweet Stout. It was the polar opposite of anything sweet.)

I had this on Nitro tap at T Brendan O'Reilly's in Harrisburg. Served in a tulip pint.
A - The color has a moderate cascade from deep brown at the base of the glass to medium brown topped with a thick 1 inch band of nitro whipped light beige. The clarity is opaque and the head holds moderately well
S - The smell is a mix of deep roasted and caramel malts. The nose has a light sweet aroma similar to toffee with a mild char element.
M - the feel is good, but I feel the Nitro strips it of some of its body drying it slightly, but that isn't to say it lacks sweetness it has roasted character and mild spice and bitterness while the feel is dry as it finished
T - the flavor is good with mild caramel and sweetened coffee flavors and the slight piney bitterness from the hops lets the stout avoid being too sweet. The malt has a mild bitterness from the dark roasted grain and includes a light char effect in the flavor with toffee and dark toasted bread comes to mind
D - I was satisfied with this, but it is not my first choice in oatmeal stouts. I found the bitterness to be slightly high in hops and malt putting it slightly out of balance. The nitro treatment doesn't help IMO but I would order it again if on C02 to compare

On nitro-tap @ the Devil's Den (Philadelphia, PA) on 5/1/10. Served in a pint glass.
Pours black, with a finger of rich mocha head. This stays thick and foamy from the nitro-pour, leaving heavy froth all down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells of chocolate roast, flaked oats, and some green citric tones. I'm getting some nice smoky textures coming out of those roasted notes. Nice full feel in the nose here.
The sweetness of the taste is very smooth in the mouth, with chocolate, caramel, and oatmeal all showing themselves. This is well balanced by a pervasive roasty nature and some spicy hops in the back of the profile. There's a good bit of dry roast and bitterness that drives the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a smooth and creamy feel. There is just a touch of sharpness to the carbonation but this drinks absolutely great here on nitro.
There's nothing to complain about here. This is just a solid Oatmeal Stout with plenty of flavor and a super silky feel that helped along a good bit by the nitro. I could have easily downed a couple of these. Very sessionable overall.
