A - a heavy handed pour yields a ruddy brown liquid with a billowing tower of off-white foam. Decent retention and leaves tons of lacing on the glass.

S - nose is a simple yet pleasant balance between malts and hops. Doughy dark bread and hints of milk chocolate collide with spicy and slightly citric American hops.

T - flavors are very similar to the nose. Lots of bready flavors. Mostly dough and multigrain bread. Citrus hop character presents a smooth bitterness and almost caraway like spice quality which lingers quite some time past the finish.

M - medium bodied with a slightly creamy texture. High carbonation almost fizzy.

O - not my favorite Sixpoint offering but still an enjoyable ale. Went quite nicely with cheeseburgers.

Deep, ruby brown color with a one-finger white head. Fair amount of lacing on the glass. Caramel sweetness in the aroma with noticable floral hop bitterness. Flavor consisted of a roasted malt backbone and doughy yeast. Medium bodied with a clean finish.

Poured from a 16oz can into a pint glass.

Best Before 26APR2013

A: Pours a ruby accented dark brown with 1 1/2 fingers of sticky off-white head. Retention was great with multiple rings stuck to the inside of the glass.

S: Carmel and maple aromas blend with lightly floral hops. Toasty bread with a piney glaze.

T: See above. Nice balance between the hop and malt flavors. A glint of milk chocolate when this approaches room temp.

M: Big and slick with a decent hoppy prickle. Soothing and refreshing, all in the same mouthfull.

O: This is a style we almost always pass up. Glad we slowed down enough to let this one hop on board.

A) Pours with a two finger head. Sticky lacing on the drink down. Fairly clear mahogany colored body.
S) Noticeable hop aroma - quite fragrant. Piney. Hints of caramel.
T) Hoppy brown. Bold hop bite upfront followed by tasty caramel malts. Toasty. Slight smoky notes. A hoppy finish, but not as powerful as the upfront.
M) Crisp. Medium light body.
O) A fantastic take on a brown ale. A great brew. I'll be drinking more.

pint sized can into pint glass. best before APR 25 2013.

A: very light brown hue, almost a dark orange. hazy. brownish/white head is frothy, one-finger. retention stands tall, recedes to a rim.

S: chestnuts. apricots. mild toffee. brown sugar. a slightly Belgian dubbel-like aroma in my opinion.

T: fruity, nutty, and sweet. I getting some sort of woody flavor in there as well. something in the middle of the body gives me a salt-like flavor as well. finishes with some lingering sweetness that tries to cloy.

M: I find this body on the lighter side of medium. moderate amount of carbonation.

D: good flavors, but a little muddled in my opinion. these guys have some better brews out there that I would recommend over Brownstone.

For starters, I am not a fan of Brown Ales. But I have loved each Sixpoint brew I have tasted.

The pour was solid brown with a very nice light cream colored head. There really wasn't much of an aroma that I could detect. I poured more into another glass to check for aromas, but again pretty neutral.

The taste was very full and soft. Softer then most brown ale's that I have tasted.

The finish was good and neutral.

So, my summary is that this one is pleasant. I have nothing negative to say about this ale, and on the other hand, I have nothing very positive to say, except that it is good tasting beer. I am glad I tasted it, but it wouldnt be something I would have again.

However, keep in mind, I really do not like Brown Ales to start with, but I always enjoy tasting different beers. Not only for my personal reviews, but it helps when it comes to describing various beers to our customers.

Brownstone pours a dark burnt caramel color with a wealthy mocha tan head and generous carbonation.
On the nose; toffee, breaded malts, burnt sugar and lively yeast are on parade.
As for the taste, this brew in wonderfully bitter with just enough sweetness to balance things out. But I mean - this is one bitter brew with heavy handed hopping!
Well constructed like all six point products I've enjoyed, this one seems like a prototype and foundation for many other varieties they brew.

Arrives a clear, dark brown with orange throughout. Creamy head eventually drops to a chunky film and leaves great lacing behind.
Smell is malt, hops, grass, herbal. Hop presence stronger than I prefer though as an American brown I guess that is to be expected.
Taste is malt and hops with a slight vinegar note and some grass. A nuttiness develops in the aftertaste with some evergreen.
Medium bodied with a medium effervescence leads to a clean, dry finish.
Overall a good beer but definitely more hop forward than an English brown (and my preference).

Poured the 16 oz. can into a small snifter, a tight cap of creamy foam rose and feel quickly. A thin broken skim mottles the surface, while a threadlike ring circles the edges of the glass. A tiny bit of spindly lace is left around the edges.

Fruity ale yeast, apple and raisin, some light spice and specialty grains.

Tangy with a light bitterness, nutty malt character, a drying and mildly hoppy finish. Medium bodied with a little bit of astringency and bittering hops. Light carbonation. A fairly straightforward brown ale that's a bit hoppier than the usual.

A- Brownstone pops open with some ivory foam already formed in the CAN. Once out, the liquid takes on a shoe polish brown look with some red poking in at the sides. Not much of a cap, semi lacing.

Smell is fairly easy for a fairly simple beer, Brownstone does have pungent strength. This includes a boatload of English malt giving off nuts and slight toffee and grain. A nice hop presence from the dry hopping.

Taste starts off malty and nutty and well, that's pretty much it. But wait, English malt is just large in this. A bit of chocolate malt in there as well, maybe a pinch of cocco flavor/brown sugar. Brownstone is a str8 forward style with a str8 forward taste. No bells or whistles.

Feel is kinda nice and the carbonation is pretty lively for a brown. It just sort of goes down smooth like and there is no prick. For the style though, not everything needs to pop like that.

Brownstone is great beer and one I would take down with some BBQ, it seems like a great match. 6% leads to all day drinking.

Been in the fridge for a few weeks, time to review this one. Always pumped for some Sixpoint.

A- Poured out of the can into a pint glass for reviewing purposes. Body is pretty much straight brown with a one-finger, foamy off-white head that has decent retention. A small ring leaves impressive webs of lace down the glass.

S- Definite use of nutty, toasted malts here give this brown ale less of a roasty feel but more of a traditional Brown Ale nose. Some buttery, caramel and dark fruit hints round it out.

T- When it comes to Brown Ales there can be a large variety of malts to enhance the flavor. This one leans toward the caramel, toasted and nutty side of things. Certainly some roast malts in here but not enough to lend big porter-like flavors. Hops are noticeable with earthy, spicy and floral hints. Some yeast bread, dark fruit and spicy hints balance it all out.

MF- A moderately thick body with a creamy, somewhat foamy overall feel. Carbonation is nice and silky at a medium level. Spicy, lower-end hop bitterness in the finish.

Solid brown-ale without having to use a heavy bill of roast malts. Instead it relies on good use of nutty and toasted malts which is certainly nice for a change.

16oz can at fridge temp into a snifter. best before 26APR2013 stamped on the bottom.

a rather vigorous pour from the can yields a 1-2 finger light beige colored, rocky head with a nice foamy cap and very good retention. some good lacing is left behind as it drinks. chestnut brown body with just a slight haze.

citrusy, resiny hops seem to be at the forefront. not till it warms does a toasty, slightly biscuity malt come out with just a hint of nuttiness. as it warms even further, fruity esters are noticeable.

a nice balance of hops to malt. dry citrus hops with a toasty, biscuity malt back. finishes with a pretty substantial hop bitterness akin to a pale ale or maybe even some IPA's. very light roastiness noticeable under everything.

light in body with a touch of a watery feel. hop bitterness lingers on the palate.

this reminds me more of a hopped up amber ale than a brown ale, but to each his own. the extra hops are much welcomed and make this something i could see myself enjoying again. the can is always a "plus" in my book as well. one of the better brown ales out there.

Poured from 16oz tall can into a dimpled mug. Best before March 2013.

Appearance: medium tawny brown with a moderately heavy haze. Head pours a finger of frothy tan foam with decent retention and an attractive lace. Pretty good!

Smell: rich and complex malt aroma with caramel and toastiness which change character over time; a good dose of earthy hops is also present. I like it.

Taste: again, toasty and caramelly malt character which seems a bit sweeter than in the aroma. Hops are earthy and a little bit herbal and are more intense than the aroma. Bitterness is on the high side for the style, but altogether it works pretty well.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a very good carbonation and a concomitant creaminess. I like it.

Overall: a bit bitter for a brown ale, even an American one; still, quite drinkable and definitely worth having again.

Average finger’s worth of tan foam, moderate dimpling across the surface, disappears steadily but final retention near the surface is very good, not much lacing to speak of. Hazy brown liquid with a strong orange influence, almost looks like rusty water, very active carbonation throughout. The nose does a good job of creating an even spit between sweeter chocolate, toffee crunch, cola bean notes and an earthier, grassier hop presence, almost metallic or minerally at times, nothing here has too much cutting punch to it while also stays firm, maybe could soak in a bit more for added length. Medium-bodied, comes on quickly with carbonated churn in the mouth which likely keeps it drying than otherwise might be. So-so richness to the cocoa, malt, caramel, coffee bean flavors, not a lot of roast but there is decent yeastiness in a dry powder form. Less earthy and minerally here, about same level of herbaceousness with a run up in pine and grapefruit pith. No real fruit flavors. Curiously, sweeter colder than as it warms. Extends the finish well without sacrificing freshness, the bitterness could be ratcheted back.

Poured from a 16oz. can into a weinhenny glass... its the only thing I have that can hold this 16oz can of deliciousness....

A- pours a deep amber brown, big white froathy head... reached 4 fingers! Nice sticky lacing to the glass

S- sweet breed, caramel malt.... earthy over all

T- sweet bready malts, caramel laced...earthy hops... woody nutty undertones

M- malty, earthy with a crisp finsih line.... cleans up very well. Nicely done

O- nicely done brown ale... maybe one of the leading in the style... six point is never a let down.... and a huge value as far as great beer in cans...

best before March 22, 2013 (I think--the date is pretty smudged; I remember the date being in March of 2013 when it was legible)

A: Clear reddish brown with a thick head and good lacing.

S: Resinous, piney hops.

T: Citric, resinous hops that come across as sour. Bready malt is faint in the background. Well hidden toastiness on the finish, if I really concentrate.

M: Soft, yet a bit prickly. Too thin.

O: A far cry from the draft version I remember from the Redhook brewery.

Appearance: 16oz can poured into a standard pint. Colour is a rich tree-bark-brown. Head is nearly two fingers in height, is bubbly and fluffy - fades leaving a nice lacing.

Smell: Powerful malts from the moment I popped the can. Bitter hops balance things out nicely.

Taste: Roasted malts offer a strong nuttiness that makes way for a bitter and hoppy aftertaste. Very balanced and delicious in the Sixpoint fashion.

Mouthfeel: Medium body has a nice, soft and velvety texture. Moderate levels of carbonation make for a touch of bite. Finishes with a hint of stickiness.

Overall: Perfectly balanced, tastes wonderful, and is incredibly satisfying. This is one of the best brown ales I've ever had.

6.0% ABV, 45 IBUs, 21 SRM, Best before 26APR2013

A - Rich ruby mahogany in color, Brownstone pours clear with a tall tan head. The firm pile of foam lowers slowly, collapsing around the perimeter but leaves whispy-to-chunky lace left on the pint for a sexy appeal!

S - Brownstone has a pleasant balance to the nose from the very beginning. Dry toasted bread is drizzled with zig-zagging strings of melted caramel and served up to combat the hoppy nose. Delicate pine and wood earthiness keep with the brown ale theme while a faint ale yeast fruitiness of plum and fig closes the aroma out.

T - Brownstone loses some of the aroma's more intricate complexities but replaces them with other interesting and unique traits. Toast and caramel sweetness linger with a lightly roasted coffee bean flavor that all overcomes the faint pine and woody hoppiness.

M - Smooth to the last drop, Brownstone is a medium bodied brown ale with a dry bite and crisp hoppy lingering bitterness but the finish feels just a little bit thin with a touch of alcohol poking through.

O - An easy drinking brown ale, Brownstone is crisp and clean with great malt and hop balance for an understated result. Sixpoint packs in delicate nuances which prevail when contemplating it's nature but are comfortable being lost in it's drinkability.

A: Pours a deep translucent caramel color with about one finger of tan head. The foam fades quickly, and there is thin lacing left on the glass as it drinks.

S: The nose is sweet and malty. I get caramel, roasted chestnuts, and slight hop bitters. Decent smelling beer.

T: This seems like a pretty typical brown ale. I get a nice malty sweetness mixed with mild nuts. There are more hops in here than I would expect for the style, but I'm into it.

M: Medium bodied beer. It's easily drinkable and goes down smooth. There is nothing too outstanding or detracting.

O: Good beer, but I'm not overly impressed with the style to begin with. I thought it was ok, but I doubt I'll buy another can.

16oz pounder, freshness date on the bottom of the can.

LOOK: Hazed amber red hue, sticky two fingers of froth

SMELL: Clean hop resin, toasted bread, mildly estery, spicy, caramel, faint orange peel, herbal, hay, roasted pecans

TASTE: Very malty, medium bodied, very smooth, toasted character throughout, juicy hop bitterness, chicory, hint of unsweetened chocolate, peppery alcohol, slightly orangey hop flavor, citrus pith, vaguely nutty, drying finish

A bit raw but certainly not unfinished, layers peel away with each sip as it warms up. I've had this on tap many times and the can seems to have held on to all of this greatness. Hands down one of my favorite American brewed browns.

Poured into Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Appearance is a moderate brown with reddish hues and a touch of cloudiness. Nice 2 finger head upon pour with good retention. The nose features caramel, cream, faint chocolate, and earthy hops. The nose suggest that the flavor is going to be subtle with a decent presence of both malt and hops. Taste starts with some roasted malt character which I barely picked up on the nose. Some crusty bread comes in with a touch of caramel character. The taste finishes with a hop note. This brown ale has a decent bit of character and is also unique for the style. The mouthfeel is moderate with high carabonation. Overall, worth a try, especially if brown ales are your thing.

16 ounce can into imperial pint glass, best before 4/26/2013. Pours fairly cloudy reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, grass, herbal, grapefruit, pine, chocolate, toast, orange zest, and slight nuttiness. Pretty nice and pleasant aromas with decent strength and balance. Taste of caramel, toast, grapefruit, biscuit, pine, grass, orange zest, chocolate, and light nuttiness. Decent amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, citrus, pine, grass, biscuit, and light nuttiness on the finish for a bit. Pretty good flavor balance; but is very much hop forward with hardly any noticeable darker malts until after the finish. No cloying flavors or sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a farily creamy and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming noticed on the finish. Overall this is a good brown ale. Could have use more prominent chocolate roasted flavors in my opinion; but was still nicely balanced and very drinkable. Quite enjoyable.

Nice brown ale. Served from a 16 oz can into a pint glass. Somewhat hazy mahogany color, lots of light comes through. Big off white frothy head with good retention and plenty of lace coating on the glass.

Slightly better than average smell. Before the beer warms up there is some hops presence. Afterwards just some mild malty characteristics.

Tastes good. Toffee and roasted malts, some piney hops bitterness. More hops than usual in a brown ale, but still nicely balanced...advantae on the malty side.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin but nice and crisp/ refreshing. Seems a bit light for 6.00 abv, no hint of alcohol.

A solid brown ale, a bit hoppier than most. Goes down real easy...A winner

A: Dark caramel colored body with decent clarity and a light tan head with great spotty lacing left on the glass.

S: Herbal hop notes, caramel and nutty aromas, brown malt base, mostly sweet without any real roasted presence.

T: Hops are more subdued here, very little perceivable bitterness on the palate, some caramel sweetness mixed with the nutty brown ale notes...hint of some woody & earthy notes and a faint flash of darker fruit.

MF: Creamy medium body, softer carbonation leads to a somewhat velvety mouthfeel.

O: Really pleasant brown, and a good one to pair with dessert. I did.

16 oz can poured into a snifter.

Pours dark brown with a finger of off white foam that fades away quickly. Aroma is pretty hoppy, dominated by citrus hop aromas, but not overwhelmingly so.

First sip is pleasingly refreshing, effervescent, mild hop flavor, sweet crystal malt backbone, and a nice bitter finish. Certainly a hoppy take on the style, but it works nicely. I feel it could use a bit more body or malt sweetness, but that's a relatively minor fault.
