A – Oh yes, the moment I popped the can open I knew that this was going to be a rock n’ roll IPA. The appearance confirms what I had suspected. A sunset, orange, amber body with just a big lumpy, tightly knit, sticky off-white head that clings lovingly to the glass leaving streaks of lacing. The head just indicates it’s going to be a real good IPA, hoppy and sticky and wonderful.

S – The smell is a combination of fruit and hops with grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, and a slight pine as well. There is a muted malt going on in this nose as well. It smells wonderful, and I cannot wait to taste.

T – Wow, just a level of hoppiness going on in here that the head did not betray at all. I’m just getting my tastebuds danced all over. And yet this is not a really intense IPA, but it is intensely good and well crafted. As far as flavor goes, there is a very big juicy, citric fruit element going on in here with grapefruit, tangerine and apricot, especially at the beginning, with very noticeable peach going on here too. Then towards the end the more piney and resinous flavors come into play towards the end. This is delightful, I would legitimately drink this for juice. It is so fresh and crisp and fruity and wonderful. Great IPA.

M – The mouthfeel is actually a little bit off in my opinion for an IPA, it is medium with good carbonation but I would have preferred if it was a little bit more sticky/robust. It’s still good though.

O – Great IPA. Not a hop bomb, but so fruity and clean and crisp and it really just tastes outstanding. I am definitely going to be getting this again. May even put it into the more outer reaches of my regular rotation.

A - orangish copper with a soft, thin, white head

S - faint pine, faint bread, sweet

T - malty, piny, bitter, some grapefruit

M - medium bodied, smooth, a bit warm

This is a nice, balanced, very easy to drink IPA. It's not as full flavored as I would have liked, but all of the right flavors are present. If it were a bit more assertive it would be fantastic. It's still an IPA worth checking out though.

16oz can, straight from the can

A - Can't really judge appearance, 16oz can, picked up while travelling on business, so all I have available is paper cups in the hotel room.

S - awesome. Huge on the candy cinnamon orange aspect. Where lots of great IPAs lean towards the floral, lemon/lime type hop smell, this one is a rich musty orange. Orange rind, orange fruit, clove, cinnamon, some other citrus earthy spice notes. Great nose on this one.

T - follows the nose pretty right on. Mild bitterness to start, then some thick juicy hops following the rich orange and candy notes, very mild cinnamon, nice finish with some lingering bitterness.

M - pretty nice for an IPA. Carb is nice, finishes well, a little coat from the hops.

Overall - I've tried other sixpoint brews and they weren't necessarily my favorite. This one, however, is right on. Lots of points for originality. This beer walks just far enough outside the normal lines of an IPA to make it very interesting, while still hitting all the right IPA notes. I might burn out on this one over time, but I would like the chance to. Picked up a 4 pack and would definitely have another if given the opportunity.

A - Pours with a small head of white foam on top of a hazy, dark golden body. The foam settles fairly quickly and leaves light lace on the glass.

S - Sweaty hops and some caramel malt.

T - Spicy hope up front with notes of graperuit and lemon pith. Some caramel and red apple yeast character in the middle. Finishes with strong bitterness as well as more pine and sweaty hop character.

M - medium body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Nicely done, the aroma is a bit mild, but the flavor makes up for it with a pungent flavor and a well balanced finish.

A: Slightly hazy peach-copper with a tall creamy foam head. Retention and lacing both commendable.

S: Very appealing robust buttered bread, toffee/butterscotch, musky pine, and ripe citrus. Fresh.

T: Earthy pine, bread-like malt, and some citrus tartness. Pleasing amount of bitterness with a noticeable spice kick of ginger and maybe clove. Overall taste profile is delicious, but I feel as if this could be better balanced.

M: Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Creamy and smooth with an appropriate chewy texture.

D: Quite a good Sixpoint offering that provides that robust and satisfying American IPA taste.

Poured a rich ruby golden color with a rich off white head. The head was firm and measured one finger width.

Nice aroma of hops fills the nose followed by a faint buttery note. This all followed by a wonderful hop flavor that just explodes. There is a slight pepper flavor. The hops coats your palette with resin.

As I enjoyed this beer there was a nice lacing about the glass. An almost sweet finish completes this beer.

Bottle: Poured a hazy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry hoppy notes with light caramel malt notes. Taste is also dominated by light dry bitter hoppy notes with some floral undertones and some semi-sweet caramelized malt. Body is about average with good carbonation. Overall, I thought this was lacking some hops punch but it is still an enjoyable beer.

pours a hazey orange-amber with thick just shy of white head.
the aroma is of resinous pine and citrus, mainly grapefruit and a touch of orange rind. also of note is enough caramel, which is a touch biscuity, to punch through all the hoppiness.
the taste follows suit with lots of fresh citrus and apricot, the slightly more harsh piney-ness taking a little bit of a back seat. the malt disappears in the mouth, with the only trace of it being a touch of sweetness. finishes bone dry with lingering bitterness that makes your tongue curl at the sides a bit. the bitterness while not overpowering does seems to stay in your mouth for longer than expected.
the mouthfeel comes off towards the fuller end of the spectrum with an almost off the tap type of carbonation.
overall, very good, a bold IPA that manages to retain a bit of sophistication in a field of similar beers that tend to club you over the head.

Poured from a pint can, this cloudy amber ale pours with a sizeable off-white head. Detailed but erratic lace.

Nose is citrusy hops, but with a sweetly malted hint.

Taste is crisp and hoppy, even a mite bitter, with grapefruit tones and a sharp, dry, almost sour finish. Not a big fan.

A: This poured a hazy dark gold with a little light tan head.
S: It smelled like sweet honey and oranges, with some bready malt and apricot, and a bit of oak.
T: It tasted like oranges and oak and sweet honey, with some burnt sugar and bready malt and apricot. It had a clean and bittersweet aftertaste.
M: It was oily with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was a decent IPA, but seemed faded already. Not sure where I was getting the oak character from either, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It was still enjoyable and balanced and easy to drink. Nothing special, but worth trying at least once.

12oz can poured into a Dogfish Head Signature glass.

A - Pours a rather clear amber mixed with a bright gold color. A very bubbly head tops this off, 2-fingers in height, with decent retention. Thick, soapy lace coats the glass in broad strokes.

S - The nose is something interesting and off the beaten path for IPAs. It's citrusy, but not very much so, with a heaping amount of pine and hop spiciness. It has a significant amount of caramel backbone to it as well. It actually reminds me of Clown Shoes in a way.

T - The taste is unusual. Not in a bad way, but I find myself coming up short at ways and words to describe this beer, even after being pretty well-versed in IPAs up to this point. It's hoppy and bitter, but not in the West Coast style, and the hop composition is something foreign to East Coast IPAs. The most noticeable flavor is a bold pine resin, followed by the subsequent bitterness of the hops. Some subdued grapefruit follows which is mixed with the sweet kick from the malts, including a strong caramel flavor.

M - Mouthfeel is medium- to light-bodied with good carbonation. This is fairly light for the style and even comes off as thin at times. Even still, it is smooth and finishes clean.

D/O - Drinkability is high. This is an IPA that sort of falls within Limbo for me. As a certified hop-head who loves the over-the-top West Coast IPAs, I still find myself reaching for the glass constantly. This is addicting and interesting, and breaks up some of the redundancy that IPAs can occasionally bring.

Poured into a tulip. Pours a very hazy golden color. Nice thick white heading that leaves a bunch of lacing after every sip.

Nose is very fruity, juicy and tropical. There is a dreaded onion aroma to that I just do not like. It is very unappealing and just seems to sit in the background.

However the taste does not bring this dreaded onion in with it. This is damn hoppy and bready. Nice thick, syrupy, carmamel backbone that just seems to balance the heavy piney and resinous flavors.

Mouth I would see is borderline full bodied if not then as full bodied an IPA can get. Heavy buttery esters linger on the palate after a few sips.

Overall not bad but this was a bit heavier than I like my IPAs.

A - Very hazy dark wheat colored body. 1/2 finger white head. Some ok lacing.

S - Very lovely. A nice mix of sweet citrus fruits and hops. I would say orange and grapefruit. Fresh-hops are not very noticeable.

T - Grapefruit again with floral notes. Harsh hops which make it a little too biter on the backend.

M - Not too dry like most IPA's. Good carbonation and medium body. Nice.

O - I'm not a big fan of the harsh hops on the backend, but otherwise pretty good. Could be that this extra I just got is past its best by date. Dang.

A-pours a hazy golden/light copper color with a white head with average retention. I can already smell the hops.
S-Great strong hop aroma of citrus and fresh green spiciness
T-Wow. great balance of the citrus (primarily orange) and good malt backbone that keeps the beer delicious from start to finish. The great hop start fades into the sweet malt leaving a slightly sweet finish with the aftertaste of citrus.
M-Medium bodied with good amount of carbonation
O-really nice beer and excellent for the price. First beer I have had from sixpoint and can't wait to try more.

A: nice copper/red hue that is slightly murky. Nice head that explodes upwards but dissolves quickly.
Leaves a solid lacing on the glass.
S: typical hop aromas, a little citrus grapefruit with a hint of pine. Nutmeg like aroma also with some a lot of hop earthiness/grass aroma.
T: hops up front, some citrus with a unique finish. Finishes a little grainy with some malt sweetness. Bitterness lingers afterwards as you feel the hop oils coat the tongue. Hop flavor is complex, a lot of earthiness with typical pine and citrus. Alcohol taste is slightly intrusive on the overall experience.
M: nice carbonation with an overall creamy texture. Thicker and not as dry as most IPAs but it works here with the taste profile.
O: a good ipa, nothing more, nothing less. You can do better, however the flavor of this IPA is pretty unique.

I'm all about the can! Love it, wish more breweries would put their 12oz - 16ozers in cans.

Honey orange out the can and splashes like a fat kid into my pint glass. I got fuckin hosed though - not all the 16 oz fits in my pint glass. Wtf?!?! Light cream head stacks up tall with a huge amount of lacing. Legs are there, but rather slim.

A shit load of hops in the nose, holy hell - so fucking fresh. Good stuff. Hops are earthy & spicy fresh - some grapefruit as well. Its not overpowering with the citrus fruits though, more earthy. Same on the palate, hop dominated & can barely even get a sense of the underlying malts. Dont get me wrong though - as a self proclaimed hop head, i fucking love it. Liquified hops mixed with minimal amount of malts to balance it. Ahhh! Hopheads dream here I think.

Thicker moutfeel for an IPA (7/10), and just really creamy smooth. Carbonation is just enough. This one brought back to me by my girlfriend - yeah, she's fucking awesome. Cheers to you babe!

Nice IPA, not outstanding but a nice offering.

Presentation: 16 oz can. Silver background and a modern design in red and orange typography with a segmented layout, where they show name, branding, and a back narrative where they note intent, main characteristics, and preservation. Shows 57 IBUs, 19 SRM, and 8.3% Alc. by Vol. Served in a tulip glass.

A - Medium amber pour, nice frothy head, moderate retention, with fair surface memory and some lacing.

S - Soft if nice hoppy nose, grapefruit, a touch of pine, and caramel insinuation...

T - Taste follows… Well, taste actually lags a bit behind. Nice with touches of caramel, soft resin, citric grapefruit touches… This is nice but the nose insinuated something a bit better.

M - Medium body, with medium-low carbonation, fair soft bite in the finish.

O - It´s nice, but not half as hoppy, or remarkable, and some may have one believe.

Notes: It could be an issue with the first batch making it to this quarters… But I picked up this from the case before the store even had it on the system and they had to hand-price it for me. Bottom line, it is not really gonna get much fresher than this I guess…. And while nice, I think this one may be facing stiffer competition in this region. For now I´ll keep in mind their rye ale instead.

Pours a hazy orange with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma of citrus peel, pine and earthy notes, mostly Belgian spice with a bit of pepper. Interesting. Flavor follows. Initial quick blast of sweet grapefruit, citrus rind and a touch of sour apple. Turns bitter with drying pine and earthy characteristics. Followed by more dry spice. I got Belgian notes on the finish along with hints of rye and white pepper. Unique flavor and a lot going on, but it works. Very, very dry mouthfeel.

A - a nice semi hazy amber in color with an inch and a half of creamy sticky white head.

S - Smells kind of yeasty similar to "sweet action" with a nice bit of pine and grapefruit hops and a bready cracker base.

T - Taste is fruity with the yeast and then dry with the hops but not overly so. Balanced then with a bit of cracker like malt and finishes hoppy that sticks to the tongue after sipping.

M - Light to medium a very balanced IPA.

Overall it is a solid IPA and I do believe it deserves the rating it gets. Well done Sixpoint! Finally in Pittsburgh!

Poured into a Duvel tulip.

Beautiful hazy, yellow-orange pour with a frothy, white and soapy head that recedes slowly into a thin collar on the glass. Not much carbonation in appearance. Smell is particularly full of a great amount of pine and resin, with a slight touch of citrus on the back end. The pungency of the resin makes up most of the aroma actually. And the malts give a nice sweetness to the aroma.

Taste begins with the malt bill laying a nice, bready foundation and immediately turns into the slight, hoppy bitterness, leaving a nice grapefruit-esque dryness on the palate afterwards. The malts comprise most of the flavor profile than the hops. Great tasting beer though. Very easy drinking, especially for the humid weather. Refreshing at best.

Medium-bodied actually, with absolutely not much of a carbonated feel on the palate. Consistent with the appearance. Great IPA from Sixpoint. Can't say it's my favorite, but all of their canned offerings are extremely solid. $10 for a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans of an IPA? Huge value in the long run. Happy #IPADay!

This was just released in the area. excited to try it. best of Sept 29th on the bottom of can.
picture of NYC skyline in the UPC, pretty cool.

A:pours almost a redish brown. nice 2 finger head.
S:smells of citrus, herbal, slight malts in the background.
T:wow , there is a spice that hits right away, followed by a smooth malt thats blends and finishes with an orange citrus. bitterness cleanses the mouth. hops are id say moderate. spice/citrus shine here.
M: Beautiful mouthfeel on this as the malts (though hidden underneath) smooth and round out the more agressive spice and citrus.

Bottom line. I'm loving this. at 6.5 ABV its quite drinkable. i had no idea what to expect when getting this. liked the idea of a 16oz IPA in a can and can honestly say this may be one of my go tos. Im lucky to be in the distrubution area of the newly canned sixpoints. If you you can get Sixpoint, try it. its not Ruination, Pliny, Hopsickle or your your other big hopped west coasts. Im tempted to say its akin to Victorys hopdevil due to the herbal spices that lend to the hops but its on another level from Hopdevil.
Great stuff.

Firstly, It is surprising to see such a good beer come out of a can. I live in NYC and i concider myself into the local craft brewerys, but this is the first time ive tried sixpoint.

A: Hazy, short and stout creamy head.

S: Very floral and citrusy, with a smack of hops just as soon as you open the can.

T: Very complex. Hop flavor is upfront and bold, but subtle flavors of grapefruit and apricot hit all of a sudden, but then you get a mouthful of sweet mango... malt is playing second fiddle here, but is a balance.

M: Not for gulping, but for savoring.

O: Like. FACT

Ok, so my previous review was on tap, at a bar where im pretty sure that they had crossed lines on some kegs or just switched em over without cleaning the lines, because my recent taste of bengali tiger was entirely different beer.

This beer pours a beautiful hazy orange color, it lost points on appearance due to lack of head. The smell coming from my pint glass hits my face before i lean in to smell it. there are loads of hop smells coming from this beer big citrus hop aroma. the taste is very similar to the smell. nice citrus hop flavor a big bitterness which is better than most other american ipas (only one i can compare it to that i have had is holy cow from alchemist) the mouthfeel was slightly undercarbed but overall nice and dry just like an ipa should be. very good beer.

Dear Sixpoint

please distribute bottles to Massachusetts

I drank this from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

The beer pours a medium orange with a white head. The head is nice and soapy, a nice cover at the end and good clingy lacing.

The aroma is super light citrus hops mixture that doeesn't really bring a whole lot to the plate.

The taste is also super light citrus to start. The middle and end are both pretty dead but at the end, almost two seconds later you get hit with a huge infusion of bitter hops. Its a nice delayed reaction.
