Had a case of this a while back, and can say that this is one of the better ice beers. No overpowering flavor of alcohol, no weird chemical odor. It was a smooth brew that was not unlike the original, with hints of corn and mash. The colder this brew is, the more flavor you will get, or so i have found. If you can find it, give it a try.

The single worst beer I've ever tasted, and very nearly the single worst *thing* I've ever tasted. Don't put it in your mouth. Don't open the bottle.

Clear yellow with a pure white head that settles to a mere skim within a minute of pouring. The nose is fairly typical of the style, light toasted grain, corn and a little bit of spicy hop. Grits and dry cracker with a subtle funky hop bittering to balance. Light bodied and refreshing, good lawnmower beer.

I found this for $2.50 a six pack. That should tell you something. Why did I get it? We were bored and poor, and thought this would bring some excitement. This is the nastiest beer I've ever had. It started out okay, but the slightest raise in temperature made this like drinking lighter fluid and hairspray. I also felt really really bad the next morning, which I rarely do. Don't get this.

A crystal clear, deep golden body is capped by a frothy head of white foam that holds for an average perios before thinning to just an average collar and whispy surface covering. Its generic beer aroma combines sweet, somewhat grainy malt with a subtle, delicately spicy/herbal/grassy hop accent. The body is medium and its fine, median carbonation leaves it crisp in the mouth. The flavor offers a very well-balanced combination of malt, sublime hop, and brisk bitterness that's certainly less sweet than many other ice beers. It finishes dry and refreshing with a swirl of spicy hops. Well brewed.

Strangely enough, I didn't know that this stuff was still around until I saw it at Half-Time Beverages in Poughkeepsie, NY. Well, regular Schlitz is one of the "economy macros" that I actually enjoy, but as with most ice beers, I knew not much good was going to come out of this one. After deciding to give this a shot, I was surprised that this wasn't as foul as I originally had planned, but ended up being a plain and rather dull lager with more alcohol in it.

Schlitz Ice pours a somewhat bright yellow straw color, and a decent foamy white head forms and lasts for about a minute. The smell is light, but there is some light husky smell and some noticeable alcohol smell, unsurprisingly. The mouthfeel is thin and fizzy, and the initial taste was of some semi-sweet grain/corn/adjunct flavor. The average cheap husky beer flavor was detectable here, and there are plastic and aluminum can notes detectable. The alcohol flavor is present, but a bit lighter than expected, and altogether this beer is moderately bitter. Throw all of the above together and add a hearty amount of water and you get Schlitz Ice. The aftertaste is almost non-existent, except for some grain flavors, and this finishes off with some alcoholic warmth.

This was a little watery, but that might have helped dumb down any of the off-flavors (namely the plastic, aluminum, and alcohol mentioned above). Of all the ice beers I've had, Natty Ice is still the worst I've had the displeasure of sampling, so Schlitz Ice has gained a slight reprieve from me, although I cannot recommend it.

so i go home to my parents this weekend, and see that instead of the usual milwaukees best in the frig, my dad has bought this. after making fun of him again (he's not a beer drinker), i crack one open and pour it in a glass. looks alright, smells alright, and lo and behold....this stuff ain't all bad!! decent mouthfeel with an actual hop profile that you just don't get in most swill macros. i was impressed and drank a few throughout the weekend. maybe i'll never have to choke down milwaukee's best again!
