The beer list and selection are out of this world. 112 beers on tap--the vast majority of which are there for a VERY good reason. Their draft events where they bring in breweries' rare offerings have been amazing. I've also consistently found the bartenders to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the beer.
Sunset's menu is extremely long; the quality and quantity of food is good, but the menu could use some focus, even the appetizer menu has sub-categories! The menu also has little symbols to indicate if the item is a Sunset Specialty, healthier/low in fat, vegetarian, or has consumer guidelines.

Since Sunset is located near BU, it can get packed with kids. On the plus side, the prices are resonable for food and beverages. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The 100+ taps can be overwhelming, but your are assured to get something you like. The bartender was quite accommadating - offering samples. I suggest an afternoon visit as the night time hours get crowed and loud.
I ordered the Mediterranean Nachos. A mountainous stack of pita chips arrived. They were delicious.
If you are in the Boston area, this is a must-stop. You know it's time to leave when the staff starts taping lanes on the floor to control the traffic lanes.

A - Party-like atmosphere. You grab a seat at the bar, or be seated in the large dining area; casual, comfortable, plenty of space between tables...combination of loose chairs/padded booth-bench seats. This place is deceptively roomy, yet maintains a cozy pub feel.
Q - If quality here refers to the "physical plant," I was impressed here, too. The Sunset isn't going to come across as "well appointed luxury," and if it did, I wouldn't have stayed.
Service - Superb. We were seated on the large upstairs dining floor, in the same room as the main bar. Our waiter was busy, but stopped by, gave a quick hello...and, returned in a few minutes to take both our drink order and our food order.
Selection - 112 craft brews on tap, 100s more in bottles. 'Nuff said.
Food - I couldn't believe the variety in the menu. Tacos, burritos, gigantic burgers (combinations of toppings/sauces), salads, etc; huge portions and delicious.
Value - The food value is exceptional; well prepared pub-dishes? Yes. And, the beer menu may appear pricey to the novice, but anyone who knows anything about craft-beer prices will agree that 5.99 for a pint of Ithaca Flower Power, and 6.99 for Dogfish 90 minute is in the ballpark.

Whenever I visit friends in Boston we go to Sunset Grille - their motto is 'Life is too short to drink cheap beer,' and that of course is right up my alley. Having 112 taps and many bottles available there is plenty to choose from - the menu is organized by region and style. The other bars around Allston have a much more mainstream selection in beer and atmosphere. Here, there's a plethora of interesting beer memorabilia adorning the walls, and plenty of room to have a conversation with your group of friends... No top 40 music blaring, TVs right in front of you, or a giant crowd. As another reviewer mentioned, if there was a place like this in my neighborhood I would definitely have a lot less pocket money...

This is my regular beer bar, which I have to visit at least once a week with some buddies. Best selection/variety of beer in boston, and they get some really hard to find beers every month or so. Just a glance at this summer's tap list at different points: Parabola, Blushing Monk, 120 minute IPA, BCBS, etc. They always have something for everyone on tap. The prices are really reasonable for food, too. The beer isn't the cheapest in Boston, but for the selection, I don't mind paying a little extra. At least they serve the beer in consistently-sized glassware (unlike some other places in Boston). The food is decent and really reasonably priced.

Easily the best beer bar in boston in terms of selection. Atmosphere leaves something to be desired. If you go in off hours it's great. Once dinner service rolls around and the college kids take over it can get loud and annoying. Always get a seat at the bar as you can get free samples of any beer on tap, it's like being at a beer fest. Most bartenders are very attentive and knowledgeable, there are a few duds however. Food is better than average. It is a must try if you are ever in the Boston area.

112 beers on tap last Sunday. Had a Cisco Indie Pale Ale and a taster of Flower Power (just 'cause...).
Lots of beer memorabilia, bottles and cans for viewing. Place is bigger than you think. Beer menu can be a little confusing - some odd categorizing, so keep looking.
For those who've been dissing the place for dirty tap lines - they got the message. They had a guarantee of freshness and the last cleaning date (6/28) posted at eye-level at the urinal.
This is THE place for beer selection in the Hub.

If you are looking for a place to kick back, watch the game, and drink beers not found in most other bars... Sunset Grill and Tap is for you.
Their beer menu is really overwhelming. They have over 120 beers ON TAP and over 300 other bottled beers.
I have never been disappointed after leaving Sunset. The food is pretty good (I suggest the Nachos), given the fact that this is pretty much a college bar.
They also have fabulous Margaritas.
Definitely stop by if you are around and have time to kill. And if you don't plan on driving home and want to get a little drunk, try doing a yard of beer.

This bar is fantastic, food is pretty good but you go here for the craft beer!! Wow what a selection about 100 draft lines and over 300 bottles to choose from. there is sooo much to pick from some very exclusive brews here too and the atmosphere of the place is fantastic all sorts of vintage beer signs and tap handles decorate the walls! The wait staff is smart as well, you can tell that management did a good job schooling them on there brews. An added bonus when you get a draft they match it up with the proper glassware for that brew! Good times and i cant wait to go back in june to see what new goodies they will have!

I finally visited this place after hearing about it for a year and a half from my local beer geek network. Overall, I'd say it's a place no beer geek passing withing 50 miles of Boston should miss.
The sheer number of beers is off the charts and, from what I understand, the beers are constantly changing and revolving in and out. The problem with this was that they were out of a lot of the beers that I tried to order. Maybe this was because I was there the same weekend as the marathon, Celtics in the playoffs, and the Red Sox playing. Those things tend to bring people out to suck down the suds.
I'd recommend their BBQ chicken pizza. It was fantastic.
