I wasn't expecting much from this Kolsch seeing as how it was displayed as a halloween beer. But this one surprised me, the smell and look of it was great. Lots of fruity malty smells with a great pale yellow color that an unfiltered beer gives. Can't quite see through this one, and it leaves some nice lacing.
Tastes of banana and bubblegum with some malty backbone and a touch of clove. Leaves me wanting another sip.
Mouthfeel is light and refreshing, just what I want in a kolsch.
Overall, I will definitely try this again. Can't wait to try it again.

A: Pours a hazy light amber with half an inch of bubbly white head. This dissipates to a thin film fairly quickly, but the larger ring around the side of the glass is enough to leave a few strands of lacing.
S: High fruit notes over a yeasty, grainy, bready base.
T: Yeast and bread notes, and mildly sweet. Nice balance and flavors, especially at the ABV.
M: On the light side of medium bodied, medium carbonation.
Overall, a quite good lower ABV beer, and I like what's added (or, rather, not taken away) by the unfiltered aspect.

Hazy (unfiltered...) gold with a small white head that settles into a resilient collar. Aroma's faint, but unusual: big sweet honey notes and very musty. The lemon/grassiness expected was in the background. Hops, like this beer, are subtle but satisfying. Honey is prominent in the taste and comfortably proportioned to grassy, spicy hops. Drinkable, so I'm glad there's more in this oversized bottle.

Large, white head. Settles with a dome and leaves lots of webby lace. The liquid is very cloudy, Whitish yellow color.
Sour and mildly earthy. Some pale malt nose. No hop.
Soft, fruity upfront flavor. The sourness is more muted than the smell indicates. Fairly bubbly, but the body is rich. The aftertaste is short and dry.

A: Poured from a bottle to a cylinder glass. Had a pale yellow color and a hazy texture. There was a big, foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.
S: A slightly sweet, slightly hoppy aroma. Pretty much what you expect from a kolsch.
T: Tasted of light hops (kind of like a pilsner), a good amount of malt, and a sweet, almost fruity quality. Not quite as sweet as some other beers of this style, but still a refreshing and light flavor.
M: A decent amount of carbonation with a silky finish. Light-bodied.
O: Not a bad beer at all. This isn't the best kolsch I've tried, but it is certainly drinkable.

Unfiltered light grapefruit appearance. Big bubbly head, some lace. A pilsner aroma. Noble hops delivering a light orange citrus flavour. Medium mouthfeel. Decent drinkability. Would be interested in trying this fresh, as likely not in prme condition..Thanks for sharing Radek.

500 mL bottle,
A: Pours a light gold, hazy, looks a lot like a witbier. Fizzy yet frothy white head, some lace.
S: Grassy hops, some nice minerality and bready malt character.
T: Tastes a lot like a keller. Big minerality, rocks, sourdough bread, grassy spicy hops.
M: Crisp, frothy, soft carbonation, light-bodied, a refreshing effort.
O: The flavour is good, though not a lot of complexity to the overall beer. I liked the unfiltered feel, and I would be quite interested in seeing how this compares to a fresh draft in Germany.

Poured into a perfect pint.
4.0 A: Faintly hazed wheat yellow color. Two and a half fingers of pillowy white head. Retention is pretty good and plentiful lacing is left.
4.5 S: Big nose on this. Tons of grassiness to the point that it comes off like a funk. Grainy maltiness with a moderate sweetness. Pithy lemony fruitiness. Hay and apple orchard.
4.5 T: Taste is equally impressive. Again grass and hay are the main attractions. Grainy malts with nice neutral sweetnss. Lemon rind. Really tasty.
4.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Very creamy and incredibly smooth.
4.5 D: So drinkable that I feel like an ass for only having this one bottle. Really high quality kolsch.

Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Served in a Pipeworks snifter.
A - White foam settles to a splotchy cap, thicker collar, and spotty lace. Surprisingly hazy for the style, with a golden straw color to it.
S - Smells like a Kölsch, but doesn't have the funky note that the draft version I tried did. Toasted grains, a bit musty, some white grape skins, and light grassy hopping.
T - The taste is sweeter, with fruity notes, a bit of honey, light biscuit, and toasted grains. Pretty clean in the finish.
M - Medium-bodied, lightly grainy texture, crisp, clean, and smooth finish, and no obvious alcohol.
D - It's a Kölsch, but nothing particularly special. There's a bit more flavor and heft than Calumet Queen, but I preferred the slightly bretty draft version that West Lakeview Liquors had on-tap a few weeks ago.

Pours clear pale yellow with a really great head. Nicely uneven, and with good retention and some sticky lace. Even an aggressive pour yields a 1 finger head. Nice bubbles rising.
Light malt and some grassy notes. I'm looking for that grape vine note and I don't think I'm getting it. Some mineral notes as well.
Grassy and grainy, with a sharp bitter bite as the beer dries out. Light malt at the end. This is clean and refreshing, and I swear I actually get a hint of alcohol. Some mineral bitterness toward the end too.
Lighter bodied, good carbonation.
On the drier and more bitter side of the Kolsch spectrum, but very decent. This beer has good physical structure, and a decent flow of flavor structure/balance of flavor. I found this to be an easy drinker, even with the bitter bite.

A: The beer is hazy straw yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high bright white head that has very good retention properties and took a long time to die down.
S: There are light to moderately strong aromas of grassy hops in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of grainy malts and grassy hops; a moderate amount of bitterness is also present and lingers through the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied and very dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and the bitterness and dryness also make it quite refreshing. It seems to have a lot more hops compared to other beers in the style and the unfiltered nature makes the taste a bit more complex.

This beer is a bit paler and definitely cloudier than other versions of the style that I've tried. It has a barnyard aroma to it that's also unique in my relatively limited experience with koslch. The normally sweetly fruity malt flavor comes through a bit tart. I don't have a clue if that's intentional or not, but it works for me. Quite refreshing.
The taste is fairly dry with that earthy, grassy, lemony German hop flavor. The malt is sweet, clean and very light. The semi-off note provides a gentle tartness. It sort of reminds me of the skin of a grape, though that sounds pretty pretentious. This beer isn't as crisp as some kolsch and focuses more on those tasty fruit flavors. It's just a mouthful of apples, pears and grapes. The feel finishes rather chalky but is otherwise light and a tad oily.
It's a tasty beer that I could happily drink all night. Unfortunately, this .5 l bottle was $6, which really isn't a terrible price given the brewer and whatnot but still a tad pricey to consume in the quantity it deserves.

Poured out as a crystal clear looking yellow color with a nice bone white head on top. The head has a good retention and lacing on the glass. The smell of the beer is a bit more hoppy smelling than most beers of this style. The taste of the beer is clean, refreshing, it's light and easy going. Nice smooth mouthfeel, very drinkable beer. Overall this beer is pretty good. Enjoyable.

Draft in a goblet glass, review from written notes.
Glowing pastel yellow, a thin layer of skim on the surface and a webby collar of lacing hangs around the edges of the glass.
Light barnyard aromas of wild yeast and wet hay, reminiscent of Jolly Pumpkin or Anchorage's Brett forward wild ales. Flavor is lightly tart and grainy, some yeast and fruity white grape traces. Chardonnay, dry floral Brett yeast, dandelions, hay. Crisp and tart, pretty drinkable. Overall an interesting wild twist on the base Kölsch, even if miles away from the traditional style.

First had: on tap at Teresa's, Wayne, PA
Poured a slightly hazy straw yellow with a dense white head that sank to a thin layer but still left some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of pale malts, grassy hops, light, indistinct fruitiness. I'm not much of a kolsch dirnker, but this was definitely one of the tastiest ones that I've had. Nice pale biscuity malts, grassy hops, as detected in the nose, fruit skins--apple, peach, white grapes. Light body, crisp, tasty, refreshing. Very nice overall, even if it's not totally my style of choice.
