Taken from notes. Had this a few months back at Birreria Paradiso in DC. Apologies on the meager notes here...

A: Pours a coppery gold with a pillowy head that slowly dissipates.

S: Slightly funky standard tripel aromas.

T: Kinda funky bretty notes with delicious light apple and white grape flavors. There might be some rotten fruit flavors in there, and it finishes clean.

M: Effervescent, mouth-filling, a bit fizzy on the tongue.

D: Very high, very easy to drink and enjoy.

Poured a somewhat cloudy orangeish gold with two finger, well-carb'd lace that died quick and left some lace on top of a typical, textbook Belgian aroma. Yeast in there, oranegy citric notes, some candi sugar sweetness, some other fruit notes that are basically "tropical". Definitely one of the most fuller-bodied beers I've had of this style as it is yeasty, fluffy and a smooth drinker. Again, typical Belgian flare with a mix of orange citric like hops that give off a touch of bitter clove like spice, some candi sugar sweetness (aided by barley), and there are some other sweet notes derived from tropical fruits like pineapple and pear (which is not tropical, I know), but not too crazy like mango. Perhaps the only knock on this beer is that the ABV, which isn't high, seems to bleed a little as it warms and as I progressed through the bomber I tasted warm bitter notes on end. A textbook triple other than a little hoppier and bitter than others; only other complaint is that per usual with De Glazen beers (at least where I'm at) is that one can find a beer as good or better for a lot less dough (do not know why the De Glazen beers are so high in comparison to other imports).

750ml bottle into a snifter

A: Pours a slightly hazy color with two fingers of fluffy head. Decent retention and great lacing.

S: Strong floral aroma with peppercorn, light vanilla, and light pineapple sweetness. Very well balanced aroma.

T: Again quite floral with a strong candied dried pineapple. The beer has a distinct yeasty/citrusy taste that goes very well with the other flavors. Maybe some candied ginger.

M: Light bodied with strong carbonation.

O: This is a great Tripel. Floral, yeasty, fairly dry, and quite flavorful. Recommended.

Smell: herbs, coriander specifically, and subtle floral notes

Taste: HOT DAMN! Ginger infused champagne laced with honey dew and tinges of herbs adjunct to sweet herbal floral notes and candied sugar; it's like Vernon's ginger ale on the best possible steroids you can find on the market, plus class

This beer goes incredibly well with Alfredo fruti de mare and any other type of white sauced dish one can find

AGE THIS BEER UPRIGHT IN A CELLAR OR, FOR US COLLEGE KIDS, A CLOSET FOR ONE YEAR (I drank this in 2011, you can do the math unless you had the whole 750ml alone in which I must say that if you need a friend to help, hit me up sometime)

Served chilled into a fluted tulip.

Pours a hazy blonde with an inch+ of airy white head that quickly recedes leaving a moderate surface layer and lacing.

Aromas of grass and grain along with pear, lemon and grapes. Seems mild at first but as it breathes it really opens up.

Tastes follow through the aromas with a slight musty funk from the Belgian yeast.

Light to medium bodied with a crisp but sweet finish and moderate carbonation. Mildly sweet aftertaste.

Mild but complex at the same time. A very refreshing beer. Wish I had another bottle.

A: The pour is all about the white compact enormous head, very thick. After a while the liquid rises as the head settles; clear golden with microscopical small bubbles. Really nice lacings.

S: Yeast and funk, Belgian style. Rich fruityness; pears, oranges, ripe red apples. Some grassy notes along side with flowery notes. Very complex.

T: Sweet, almost syrupy malts. But then Belgian yeast and spices. Cloves and grass. The hops are a bit fresher than in most Belgian Ales; something that's a good thing in this beer. Bitter as well as floral. Sour. Still complex.

M: Sour long aftertaste. Body is creamy full while carbonation is rich but very smooth.

O: A very nice and complex Tripel.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Rich, slightly cloudy orange-yellow colour. The nose on this is an amazing fruit basket of melon, muscat grapes and even some floral notes. Beautiful. It has nice, effervescent carbonation and a pleasant mouthfeel. There's a good hop presence on the fruity palate --with plenty of bubblegum, melon and spice flavours -- that balances the alcohol and sweetness nicely. A really original-tasting tripel.

750 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours cloudy golden orange color with a fairly dense 1-2 finger white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of pear, lemon, apricot, honey, grape, caramel, herbal, floral, earth, and light spiciness. Fairly nice and balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of pear, apricot, grape, lemon, herbal, honey, earth, pepper, and light yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of grape, apple, pear, herbal, honey, caramel, earth, and light yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice malty flavor balance; with minimal cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly slick and creamy mouthfeel. Overall this is a very nice tripel. Nice flavor balance and complexity; and very smooth and easy to sip on. I would imagine that his was an older bottle though, and would like to try a younger vintage. Quite enjoyable.

LOOK; 25 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a pillowy froth going up half the glass. The head has fine staying power and leaves plenty of lace down the glass.

SMELL: Aroma of expressive, fruity, estery Belgian yeast and dry noble hops. Grass, straw, pear, and entrancing alcohol aromas all leap from the glass.

TASTE: Mellow Belgian yeast character with more soft pear and apricot notes. There is a firm hoppy character with woody, earthy, herbal hops providing a light bitterness and slight dryness to the brew. Alcohol heat is barely noticeable with all the delicious flavors. The hop comes out fairly strong and the brewer is very proud of the source of the hops as being the last true link to the hop growing region of Aalst.

FEEL: Light to medium bodied, fairly effervescent, and a complex drying hop finish. Belgian yeast and delicate bitterness carry into an elegant finish.

OVERALL: This is a world class tripel and one of the finer examples of the style. Has a great hop character and the yeast used makes for a delicious beverage. Would pair superbly with herb & oil marinated fish dishes.

750 ml crown capped bottle. I bought it at Tasty Bev a couple months ago without realizing its dated July 2009 and says best within 2 years of bottling. Oh well.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden orange with a thin, tiny bubbled, tight little head but there's little retention and almost no lacing.

Smell: Sweet light fruitiness and a hint of tartness. Not the heavy candy-sweet aroma of some tripels. Despite being old as dirt, there's still a bit of herbal, citrus hop note. The yeast is prominent-- bready, spicy, slightly musty. Its really a good smelling beer.

Taste: A very refreshing tasting tripel. There's plenty of fruity sweetness and a heavy, spicy yeast flavor, but there's a touch of lemon and pepper, and an earthy hops flavor that really balances this beer perfectly. Clean for a tripel, and a touch of bitterness in the finish, with no detectable alcohol.

Mouthfeel: The high carbonation makes this both creamy while in the mouth, then drying as you swallow it. Great.

Overall: I bought this beer because I really enjoyed their Saison Erpe-Mere. I'm glad I didnt see the bottling date, because I would have missed out on this one. I'd love to try a fresh one. But even this elderly bottle was great.

great, creamy froth over a hazy, light ambergold

the aroma was primarily spicy (not hot, but "of or characterized by spices"): of star anise and white pepper. some golden lager malts crawled through

the first flavor to present itself is an excellent minty hop flavor with a gently lingering bitterness. spicy, too. the liquid features a peachy sweetness that holds up well enough to the tasty hop contribution

i'm not a great fan of tripels, though i appreciate the difficulty in producing good ones. this one is good

One bonus of a day off as a teacher is a little extra time to stop and have a beer and say hi to Al at the Blue Nile on a Thursday afternoon. Only time for one tonight, so asked Al to serve me the best on tap--same as always. Leftover from the Belg-a-Rama that I was too tired to make on Friday, and found myself with a pretty glass of Glazen Toren Ondineke in front of me.

Light thin white head with very tight, small bubbles falls to a persistent film on top of a hazy sunset orange beer. Very yeasty nose--pleasant. Light hop spice, assertive but not pushy, usual for a tripel, blends with a orange zest, lemon, banana, and pepper. Slightly sweet and bready base supports the intricate spice. Full mouthfeel without being heavy. Yeast and spice continues in the taste, and kicks up a notch compared to the nose. Dry, spicy aftertaste. Yeast subdues as it warms so the spiciness can take over. Pretty incredible beer that's well worth the effort.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled July 25th 2009? Ready to rip this!

A nice simple forming off white head, quite large with soapy bubbles but the head falls VERY fast. Body color is a dull bronze, and amber. Manages it seems a thin but consistent puck on the glass, resting to a good collar.

Nose brings a small heat, a little bit of boozyness but nothing outrageous, and some small floral with a large malt. Not particularly sweet, possibly effervescent sense, giving way to orange and citrus light sensations.

A mild spiced malt, mixes with a sense of small cardamom sweetness in the palate. Mouthfeel is just a little bit fizzy, with a prickly feeling that takes away some of the pleasure. Slightly "gassy". Sweetness of orange and honey comes out later with some nice malt character. Hints at crisp, gets MUCH better as the sips progress with a slow sweetness that creeps out.

Overall quite interesting, a very subdued and subtle for the style I do enjoy it, but not a real out of the park home run. No worries I will never turn this down given the chance.

A unique beer, an atypical tripel, (full name: Ondineke Oilsjtersen Tripel (Tripel from Aalst) with an unusual name, and label art. After much searching, I learned it's named for a character in a book buy a local author, and the drawing is a depiction of this "Ondineke" character. Still looks extremely odd. Did they ever translate it from the Flemish. I'd be interested to know why this beloved heroine is pigtailed, nude and possessed of strangely long fingers.

Alas, this might not be the perfect glass for a tripel, but it is the only one I have with the Glazen Toren logo. So, I'm using it.

Gorgeous golden cast, with a constant stream of bubbling, and big snowy white head, starts large, drifts down, leaving lace.

Aroma: a perfect marriage of spice and citrus, soft and sensual. Some pepper, some coriander, geting close with orange and lemon, sliding into the nose and tickling it. Sharp, tangy, then a little sweet.

Many things in the mouth. Sparkling, spicy, sweet, juicy, then dry as she goes. Fruit goes hand in hand with spice, and it quits the palate with a quickness, drying off, yet enticing another sip. Gets more and more lemon-y as we go deeper in. Each new meet and greet on the tongue smack the lips and palate again with small amounts of spice, large amounts of fruit, that swiftly turns dry and begs it's pardon on the way. Lingers lightly. Spreads just enough of it's particular pleasure along the palate to urge on further consumption, and spread further delights.

A: Pours a hazy gold with a thick, creamy white head that simply refuses to dissipate.

S: Aromas of lemon, bitter orange, grapefruit, and spicy, pungent yeast are present on the nose.

T: This one opens in a bitter and fruity manner with notes of bitter orange, lemon, pineapple, grapefruit, biscuits, grass, pepper, and candy sugar. The finish is delicate with citrus and candy sugar notes.

M: Light bodied, slick, and a bit oily. The amount of candy sugar used must be rather high for this ale to be so thin and light in the mouth. Carbonation is prickly, but far from overwhelming. Alcohol is present in the background.

O: This is an excellent tripel that skillfully balances hop bitterness and sugar sweetness. If you're into this style or are looking to branch out from the more commercially oriented Belgian abbey ales, this would be a great beer with which to start.
