I stopped by this Whole Foods Market recently during the afternoon. This is easy to get to, right in between Memorial Drive and Central Square in Cambridge on River Street.
Up to the escalator you go and to the right of the cash registers awaits a serious selection of quality beers. I was impressed and not expecting such a good selection at a Whole Foods. For the amount of limited space dedicated to beer, it's impressive. There is only 3 or so coolers for beer and I didn't see any warm beers. The wine selection takes up much more space.
Some 6 pack highlights in the selection included Brooklyn (Brown, Pale Ale, Pilsner and Black Chocolate Stout), Dogfish Head (90 Minute IPA, Midas Touch), Victory (Old Horizontal, Hop Wallop, Storm King Stout), Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Celis Grand Cru, Geary's Hampshire Special Ale, Magic Hat, Allagash (White & Double) and many more. They also carry bombers of Rogue, Stone and Berkshire Brewing.
I was surprised to see an Anchor OSA magnum from 2002, La Chouffe, Chimay, Duvel, Dogfish Head World Wide Stout & 120 Minute IPA. They also had Sam Adams Triple Bock too. Quality appeared to be pretty good. The only red flag I noticed was a 6 pack of Allagash Summer. All of the other seasonals seemed to be right on. They have some singles for $1.75, including Brooklyn BCS.
The selection here is much more on quality vs. quantity....which is a good thing. As with any other Whole Foods or health food style store, the focus is on organic and quality products. Worth checking out if you are in the area or want to pick up some groceries and beer in the same trip. Very welcoming to the BA eye.

This is the whole food market located on River St in Cambridge. Its located right down the street from Central Square.
First off, this is your normal whole foods grocery store. Organic, hippie, whatever you call it. If its from the earth, all natural, meat free, they probably have it. Its actually one of the better whole foods stores in the area with a wide selection and a great take out section.
The store also features a rather extensive beer and wine section.
The beer selection only takes up a case or two, but is surprisingly extensive and eclectic with mostly rarer imports and craft brews. On my last visit they had the entire Stone line including double bastard, most dogfish heads, again including world wide stout and the barleywine, and a host of other beers from Cisco, Omengang, Magic Hat and others. The imports ran the gamut from some more popular imports like Heineken and English favorites to 750mls of Chimay, Duvel, La Chouffe and others.
Although I havnt seen any in my more recents visits, this was one of the few places in Boston I saw Sam Adams Utopias. Also on occasion they carry the big 3 litter bottles of certain brews like Chimay and others.
Obviously this isnt meant to be a liquor store, but each time I go in and look at the beer selection Im always amazed they carry such a BA friendly variety while steering away from the common lawmower brews. Kudos to them. Worth checking out for food as well as beer.
