look: 4 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3
Appearance: Somewhat of a gusher, which leads to an impressive head and clumpy lacing, once the foaming settles down; the liquid underneath is a cloudy amber
Smell: Rather phenolic, with Band-Aids dominating the smoke and fruity elements
Taste: Bready, with the smoke coming through along with the phenols; adds a vanilla character in the middle; Band-Aids in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; somewhat creamy
Overall: Maybe this is getting a little age on it, but I find myself rather disappointed by this; East End makes some great brews, but at this point, this isn't one of them
Thanks, kbuzz, for the opportunity

32oz swing top purchased at Capone's in Norristown PA
Appearance: Pours a pale golden with a massive 3 finger crown that shows some retention and lace.
Smell: Moderate smoke (I'm guessing alder or most likely hickory), some band aid phenolics, and a fairly bready malt come through.
Taste: Same as the nose with a bit of herbal hoppiness and a minor citrus note that come along for the ride.
Mouthfeel: On the thick side of medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A decent smoked lager that goes down easy. Not something I'd seek out again but I wouldn't hesitate to have one on draft during the course of a night either!

Hazy amber with a tight lip of glazey foam. 3.0
Salty, smoked bacon and sourdough. Nothing faint about that aroma. Smoky and savory, and almost sweet. 3.5
Extremely smoky and briny. Firmly hop bitter, as well. A touch sweet with hints of caramel and treacle. Nearly fruity in the finish. Phenomenal. 4.5
Velvety smooth with a softer carbonation. Very drinkable. I could down another. 4.0
Much better than anticipated. Very very good. 4.0

Big one liter flip top bottle bought at Pittsburgh's new market down in the Strip. East End's growler station seems to be the center of culture and life down there. Although there are many other awesome artisan stands down there. Pours a bright copper almost clear golden, white head flowing. Aroma is full of smoked malts, bacon/charred wood fired meat basically. Light malts not much in the weigh of hops, just a big smoked out rauchbier. Flavor was heavy with the smoked flavors as well, some may really enjoy this caliber of smoke, but I recently had the smoked helles lager from both Victory and Aecht Schlenkerla. Those beers provided the big smoked malt flavors but yet retained adherent enjoyable qualities that the base beer had to offer. I didn't feel that way about Blabber and Smoke, just straight up smoked malt effects, pretty extreme. I love the Smoked Heritage Porter, but this was a bit much even for my open beer mind. Mouthfeel was a bit thin and lingering smoke was a burden on the palate, moderate carbonation. Overall I think I mentioned why this was less than stellar, a decent shot at an often times overlooked style.

Blabber & Smoke
East End Brewing Company
LOOK: Pale copper colored beer, with a small wispy head and little to no lace on the glass.
SMELL: Delicious aroma of BBQ-ed meat, smoke, bacon, campfire and slight floral hop notes as well.
TASTE: Strong smoked malt flavor, with more cured beef and smoke notes. Tobacco, bacon, cigar smoke and mild sweetness. There is also a citrusy hop element hiding underneath the smoke flavor, giving the beer some complexity.
If you like smoked beer, you would really enjoy this one because there is a big smoke flavor.
FEEL: On the light side of medium bodied, delicate medium-low carbonation. Smoke flavor lingers into the finish. Tame yet robust.
OVERALL: This is a fine smoked beer, and a testament to the brewer/s at East End. Nice smoked flavor, small hops, light bodied and somewhat refreshing. Would be an obvious choice for pairing with charcoal grilled or smoked meat and potato salad.

First had: growler at the brewery
Just for the record, the label on this beer does list it as "Blabber & Smoke" and distinct from the retired "Blabber 'n Smoke," and there was no indication that it was part of the session ale series.
Cloudy amber pour with a fairly frothy white head; moderate retention and lacing. Tremendous aroma, pretty much full blown smoke and smoked meat. Nice taste too, toasted bread, bacon, thick smoke...pretty great for a lager. Body was on the lighter end of medium, with the smoke lingering 'til the very end, though surprisingly clean in the aftertaste. Nicely made brew right here.
