Big Hop Harvest Ale – from East End Brewing. Single 16 oz can. In reefer at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Acquired 22/09/23, $ 3.50 (Including tax), $ 0.219/fl oz. Reviewed 26/09/23 (Review 3157). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 53.6 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Deep Gold (SRM 7), clear.
Body – Amber (SRM 12), opaque. Under direct light, gold and hazy. When rear-lite, gold, and transparent.
Head: Giant (Maximum 6.5 cm before it overflowed, aggressive center pour), light beige, medium density and frothy. Reduced to a 0.4 – 1.5 cm irregular frothy crown and a heaped partial cap.
Lacing – Fair. Some three-dimensional frothy bands hang on the sides of the glass.
Aroma – 3.25 – Distinctly flowery/hoppy. No yeast, no malt. No ethanol (6.9 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 3.25 – Begins with a light flowery hoppiness, essentially following the nose. No yeast, no malt. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Faint gastric warming.
Palate – 3.25 – Medium; watery; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: (After deducting 0.25 point for undated can) 3.25 Decent iteration of Big Hop – seems bigger but the wet hops certainly enliven it. Good enough to enter my rotation, at least for a short time.

Tasted from the tap at the East End Brewing Taproom in the Strip. Lemon up front and center. Smooth and slightly sweet. Dry on the back of the tongue.

Growler being drank out of a tulip glass:

Look: Pours a nice golden/orangy color with about an inch of head with tons of lacing present.

Smell: Citrus, pine, grassy.

Taste: Citrus, pine, grassy, also tastes kind of woody, nice touch of malts also to not make this overly hoppy.

Feel: Medium bodied.

Overall: This is one of my East End favorites. This is a solid harvest ale that I visit every year. It is not overly hoppy so might be a good starter for someone just getting into harvest IPAs. I recommend picking up a growler or pint of this at the brewery.
